It's difficult because sites are basically worldwide and there are world wide laws to crack down on scam ads. If a Russian hacker group makes deep fake ads the Russian government isn't doing anything about it. They can just create new ad companies and get to some sites eventually. Especially since some sites don't really care who advertises as long as they pay and those sites can also be hosted from a country that doesn't give a damn.
Why though? I see nothing wrong with that

I think the problem with people who say "Oh if you get scammed by this, you deserve it" is that there are entire government agencies to protect and defend people from their own financial stupidity. Everyone can be stupid sometimes. We see it every April Fool's Day. Normal, everyday people can get tricked and swindled and lied to, so we need to protect EVERYONE. Because if you start putting conditions on who deserves to be protected from scams, you're going to feel super lonely when eventually you fall for one and no one is around to help you. I'll always defend stupid people because I know every single person on the planet has the capacity to be stupid sometimes. It shouldn't mean you lose money!

To the "they deserve it" idea: Your average person doesn't deserve to be scammed! Even if people are dumber than you doesn't mean they "deserve" to be harmed nor does it make you better than them. The people who deserve this ire are the people creating and spreading scams and the people who are smart and use that for malicious gain.

I'm glad that the discussion of this being a threat to the entire creative industry is finally being brought to light. I'm a digital artist and for awhile it felt like it was really only our jobs that were being threatened, and because people generally don't give a shit about digital artists and our rights/jobs, people were/are ridiculing us and actively hoping to replace real artists. The fact that it's now affecting other creative branches means that there's now hope for regulation and protections, though pandora's box has already been open for so long now in the digital art community, I don't know if the damage can be reversed.

Anyway, I may not be one yet, but I very much would like to eventually become an artist myself, and yes I would use AI as a tool in my arsenal, probably mostly for things like backgrounds. But you can do all kinds of cool things with AI art like having the program scan many pictures of your face to learn it and then turn yourself into a wizard or a knight. And for a person to get such a piece done, they would need to spend hundreds of dollars on a good enough artist. The vast majority of people would never do that in the first place, meaning no job is actually even lost in that case. Plus, I don't know why artists keep forgetting that you guys can use AI art too. Instead of getting left behind (because facts are, its here already, and there's no way you're gonna stop every single person from every single country from using it), you should instead step up your game and take your art to the next level using AI to make your work even faster and higher quality. Seriously, if you don't start learning it, you are basically guaranteeing yourself to lose your job faster than others who are using it. I love these Ludwig ads. It feels like you get a normal AD since it just cuts the video off but then all the sudden you notice it's actually Ludwig in the AD and you end up watching the entirety of it. They're so well made too!
As an artist. I'm totally over AI and AI being trained by stealing other artists' art without their permission. I've had to give rid of all my work on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook because they're using generative AI on their platforms that use media off the sites to train it.

Yeah. The ability to make someone say something or do something on video they didn’t really do is going to suck. Imagine someone gets mad at their coworker and suddenly they “said a slur” can just deepfake it and boom no annoying coworker anymore.
This has been around for over a decade it's just much cheaper and more accessible now. It also used to be much easier to detect.

For instance a deep faked photo of the person drinking with a minor or doing drugs. This stuff has already happened, and teachers have already been accused of saying slurs and the only defense they had was other students saying the teacher would never do such a thing, prompting a further investigation

one way to fix this could be that each ad gets scanned by face scan - if it detects a face, then the person who's face is being used needs to approve of the ad. ofc that would mean that social media creators would need to get like face id for each of their social medias, buut that could be a good solution. smth like copyright system for faces.

One thing that has had me quite upset for as long as I've found out that it's a thing is the idea of AI "art" and communities gassing up each others word prompts that they used another AI to generate all to create fake art utilizing a base from actual human artists that gave absolutely no consent. Then acting like they have some kind of talent or ability... I hate it here =/

"Oh if you get scammed by this, you deserve it" is so close-minded and completely ignores how quickly AI will improve. Where do they draw the line? When you can get a fake facetime call from a loved one that looks and sounds just like them? By then it'll be too late to stop things. Regulations need to be put in place now.
Trademark law literally exists to help keep people from getting scammed by crappy companies trying to mimic better known companies - this is a problem already pretty well understood by the legal system worldwide, it’s “just” a matter of putting some real laws on the books and actually punishing bad actors.
Anyone following crypto should know how long scams are going to be left to fester without any real government regulation: until major financial and media institutions feel threatened.

It was so inconveniencing that by the time his big reveal to say it was all AI came around I thought it might of been a possible parody. It was very obvious.

I’m largely hitting on the point that a lot of people in my community tried to get across which was that it’s in desperate need of regulation before it becomes something that actually posed a risk to jobs. The conversation ofc stemmed around art and how it would largely affect the industry but there wasn’t really a shortage of people (that I follow at least) also talking about how it could have a similar effect to other jobs that aren’t just around art stuff

People might say that takes away work from some people, but I feel like all technological progress was inevitably headed towards minimizing the number of jobs in general. We need to plan ahead for that situation instead of just avoiding it. Really, imagine how much better society would be if we didn't have to work and could devote our time to art and connecting to the people around us. The biggest obstacle to that, IMO, is greedy people and companies.

People I know have been affected by this, with my friend's account on social media getting hacked by NFT scammers using AI deepfakes of them. Honestly, all of this is terrible, and a clear indicator that something needs to change.

Two points of clarification about the union contract: That is the WGA (Writer's Guild of America) contract, not the SAG-AFTRA (actors) as Ludwig said. They did strike together and for similar benefits, but the contract read was the historic WGA one :)
Also, Ludwig said "For as long as the contract lasts." Labour contracts always have a timespan, this one is 3 years!
Just a correction, it was the WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) who after striking for months just got a deal that included protections of their work from AI. SAG is still very much on strike for some of the same issues

I really think that we need to take some of the responsibility for the AI issue - I live in the EU and even though I believe that legislation will be in place sooner than in the US, I do not want to have to depend on that. As a somewhat tech-savy person, I am educating my parents and grand parents and (while it is true that the AI is the worst it will ever be) there are easier ways to detect some scams like checking that the account posting whatever is the actual account you believe and the action they are prompting you to do, is something the persona actually would do.
And while I also am worried about the art related advancements and mostly AI being used by corporations, for which the legal regulations are a must, I also think its on the consumers to put their wallet/time/attention where their mouths are and support the real artists/writers/youtubers or just the real people in any industry
Except what you're talking about is just fantasy lala land without regulation. Sure protecting yourself against scams is important sbut if you think that you'll even know what PRODUCTS are made with AI within a few years you're just coping or ignorant. "Voting with your wallet", which has always been a neoliberal joke of pretending to take action anyway, will be entirely impossible without extensive research into every single thing you consume.

I find it strange that deepfakes of female celebrities' faces on adult film stars have been around for years, but it's only now that it's impacting male celebrities that people are really talking about it.
that's less the fact that they're female and more the fact that it was porn related, nobody really cares about porn issues because nobody wants to talk about it
while im glad there are things being put in place to protect creators from ai stuff, i cant help feleing salty that nobody gives a fuck about how its impacting the art industry and the fact that im seeing it take over in real time but only artists are talking about it :') it wasnt until it started coming for actors, writers and content creators that now everyone is realising how fucked up it is and putting safeguards in place
