Pretty sure it failed. Otherwise they would have shown the end result.Possible reasons:1) Epoxy was too opaque for wood to be visible and the board became all blue.2) Wood squared moved while pouring resin and it just scrambled.

You can sand it down to re-expose the wood. That wouldn't have been an issue

You can buy silicone molds for chess pieces and fill them with epoxy.
