This game is absolutely fun. I had a week to play it early and there is a small learning curve to it, but once you understand the mechanics and how the game works, it is so much fun and satisfying to play which is something I thought I would never say for a game like this. This game really does highlight how ants do have an entire civilization, and it's crazy to think about. Imagine the wars ants have fought in our yards, or out in the middle of a forest.
Check out the movie The Besieged Fortress for a real-world example of insect society and warfare. It has termites instead of ants, but it's insane how their lives basically resemble humans in medieval Europe.

@@Analwreckage SimAnt was the OG. Empires of the Undergrowth is worth a look imo. Closer to a SimAnt style experience with many features and much more content. This game looks to be something altogether different. Adding dialog an rpg story is pretty radically different.

Downloading the demo on Steam as I type this. This is one of those concepts of a game you fantasize about as a kid, like, "what if I could jump and climb and crawl around everywhere, like a cat?" Stray did that for me, and now I can be ants. This is wonderful.
6 minutes in and I’m already saying, “Yep, I'm getting this!” This feels like Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, but without getting bored after 1 hour. Ancestors were more free to roam and do what they wanted to do (find a new home, learn more things to create, discover new foods/animals, etc). In this game, you're given a task and you go out to complete it. Also, the combat looks pretty interesting as well and I do like how there's dialogue for the ants. So yeah, I'm hooked 🙌

I once saw during a picnic an ant carrying a piece of crumb at least 5 times its size and the nest was a good 6/7 meters away… I also went to a buffet dinner that night and admired human greed and people just trying to stuff as much food as possible in their faces.
I imagine from a developer's perspective, the game may have marvels with the clean textures, lifelike over world, and even an amazing soundtrack. the alternative of the game for the player from typical war and battle themes has a quality of central focus, or profound observance of the harsh struggle in blissful nature.
This is actually using the book "Empire of the Ants". It's a formica ant colony's contact with an incomprehensible alien intelligence during their war with the invasive Argentine ants somewhere in France.
This is absolutely stunning! I never thought a game about ants could be so engaging, but I've found myself staring at the screen this whole time, without even a thought of looking away. The sound effects and score really make it, and I love how there are times when you don't have music playing in the background the whole time. It allows for other features such as the world and mechanics to take front stage. And when the music does come back in, it feels earned and dynamic. Well done! I can't wait to play this game!
This so brings me back to my childhood, I would feed ants and study help build there colonies like everday, The nostalgia. I didnt play much video games when i was a kid so i would explore natures backyard and learn alot.
I'm so glad someone else noticed this. I'm trying to marvel at this gorgeous engine, but my eyes are drawn only to the bright lines and obscure icons, which stand out against the dark ground filled with insects. It’s even more infuriating when you ask, 'How does the player know which ant they are controlling in a massive group?' They should have used Spore as a model for how to design this game.
From 1:30 to 2:00, I couldn't even appreciate the environment because the hovering circle is drawing my attention. Everything is so subtle and gorgeous and then we have this brightly colored object overlapping everything.

Ant Queens aren't actually in charge of the ant colony. It's just one specialized job the colony revolves around, the queen isn't an Overmind or anything like that.
