Mystery tongs? what on earth are these.

- discovered this extremely odd and potentially rare set of tongs at a yard sale. purchase them for next to nothing with the intent of just having them hang on the wall. they are approximately 26 in Long and with their unique jaw shape I thought it would be fun to post a video reaching out to others in the blacksmithing community in hopes that they might be able to tell me what they were used for originally.

Nose tongs... but you could modify them to shape bowls. Gotta love a cool garage sale find!

That's right, that's a nose pliers. They used to be used to keep unwilling horses to shoe, but are now strictly forbidden, at least in Germany.
Cow nose tongs! Especially if you have a big bull that is being on’ry. Grab his nostrils with these, he’ll follow you like a puppy.

Same here, my grandmother ran cattle for many years and in my youth id never seen anything like these.
Yep, cattle nosers. Usually, there is a loop in one rein for a rope. They are used to grab a cow's nose to help doctor an eye or put medicine down their throat.

..agree with the rest of the commenters. around here we called them "bull tongs". if a bull didn't have a ring in it's nose then these were used...
I have a set just like em. People usually use these for dominating a bovine of sorts.
I use mine to steer my girlfriend away from make up isles.
