  • 11:20 in the video is something I do every time we do work on this hill. If you look very close you will see a small cabin. That cabin was Chelsea and I's first place together. Where our story really grew and I love driving past and looking back on those years
In this video we are working for Dirt Perfect and mowing a hill that he had cleared recently. Using his John Deere 955 compact tractor and a five foot bush hog
Later we head up to the homestead to break out my custom modified whoppa choppa bush hog behind our john deeere 755.
Finish it all up with some trail work at the timber bridge in the woods. Hope you enjoy!
CHeck out this video of the seeding of this field to see what it looked like before:

Mornin Mike, if you get a chance, check out Adam’s (hometown acres) channel today. Garage hacks and organization. You may get some good ideas for yourself and even more so for DP’s garage. I may have mentioned you guys in the video. 😜 Have a great day and love your content!!

It started as a video showing a beautiful fall day........ 🙄 Then I was bounce on the ground like some old basketball, ouch🙃 ...but then I realized that Kleeman. (Aka Mike) does not have any control over gravity.
So keep up the good work and I will try to survive the bumps and scrapes so you can show us the hard to get and unusual video shots that no man was meant to see.
    So...........
Be good be happy be safe an hopefully I will see you on the next one🤕

Thanks to Captain Kleeman and his forestry maintenance videos, I've learned that those vines are bad news for trees. The property my mother and I currently rent is in dire need of tree, brush, and vine maintenance. We have lots of poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, honeysuckle, and wild grapevines. And it seems that wild grapevines and poison ivy are inseparable when it comes to trees. Can't have one without the other! tag team partners in a battle with the trees. Sadly, there are a lot of dead trees, and the larger trees have a lot of dead in them. Going to take a lot of work to clean everything up and try to save the trees that aren't dead.

Me too. Fall holds a lot of great memories for me. One is our annual apple butter boil. We have an apple orchard so the whole family would get together. We'd pick the apples, take about 75% of them and make cider. The rest would be cut for snits pies and the apple butter. On the day of the boil, we'd get up early, set the kettle up and get a fire going, dump in about 30 gallons of cider, 10 lbs of sugar, and our secret ingredient-sassafras. Then the tedious part of stirring. It needs to be stirred continuously or it'll burn in the copper kettle. It takes hours to reduce the cider to about one quarter, then we added the cut apples, and kept stirring. Meanwhile, my mom, grandmother, and aunts would be making the pies and a kettle of corn soup. It was a big event. Lots of friends stopping by, people buying apple butter, and even people just driving by would stop to see the process.
I miss those times. Unfortunately, I lost just about my entire family, so memories are all I have left. I'm only 48, and I never thought I'd be alone this young. I better quit rambling, lol. I might be sappy if I don't.

I enjoyed brush hogging. Unfortunately my tractor went down and I doubted fixing it and couldn't afford a new one. There's just something relaxing and satisfying about it. In a way I wish I was still doing it or could find a job doing it around here. I just don't know about using my own equipment anymore. I can say I can't wait to have one to mow down my pasture and keep it maintained. It is overgrown now.

Cap’n, taming those wooly vines and under brush is a full blown occupation. My dad spent tons of time doing it.
He knew the names if every wild bush, weed and vine… he knew which ones the cows would eat and which ones they wouldn’t… he knew which were perennials and which weren’t… he knew which ones to cut and which to dig out… and when I finally got old enough… he knew he would rather have me clear brush than, for him to have to. Eventually that was all if it!
About 10% of his knowledge passed along to me… perhaps if we had a Whoppa Choppa and a 755 I too could have become an expert. But, the axe, bow saw, loppers, shovel and pick axe that we had, convinced me that I didn’t really want to become a full time brush whisperer. I’m content to let the other 90% of his knowledge keep passing me by.
But, I sure do enjoy watching others, like you, experience the joys of playing brush man!

The sawzall works good for cutting small saplings and small limbs off trees. I don't know what type of blade you were using but they make one specifically for cutting tree limbs. They have a very aggressive tooth pattern and cut through tree limbs like a hot knife through butter. They aren't like the usual wood cutting blades that you normally get for a sawzall, the teeth look more like the teeth of a curved hand saw used for cutting limbs. If you're not already using that type blade I can say that getting some would help out a lot. As fast as you cut through the saplings you may be using one already though. Neat video. Stay well. -Wil 👍

I was impressed with the speed of cutting off the bridge bolts. What blade was that you were using in your DeWalt?

Since the highway department never seems to do its job of keeping edges and medians of the roads mowed, maybe you could "borrow" one of their bush hogs when they are setting for weeks alongside the road doing nothing while the grass is two feet tall. The ones that have the swingarm so you could safely mow them steep drop offs and such.😁

Illinois passed a law about mowing roadsides some years ago.. Mowing between March 15 and August 15 is prohibited.
It's supposed to be for animal habitat.

Have a question. Why don’t you widen your trails instead of them being so tight. I notice a lot of people that I follow that have land, their trails always seem so narrow. When you have the equipment to make it wider to where you’re not squeezing through your trails. Just curious. Thanks for sharing.

you need to add some pigs to your goats and use them to keep and clear the forest for you...the goats will climb to get the vines and pigs will dig and go after the roots to keep them from coming back...

Wait, you hooked up the PTO that fast? (Two of them!?! Even though the second one was time-lapsed, it didn't seem to involve a lot of skinned knuckles and bad words! Please tell me there was clevrer editing involved.) Your place is looking pretty good, but my wife was watching over my shoulder, and she said "he needs some goats, goats will clean up under the trees." And, that's a heck of a job on the "temporary" bridge!

I got tired of fighting them all the time. Lots of grease and penetrating oil.
