  • I was so excited to get up to The Tent for the final 4 days of hunting. I was super excited because of the big winter storm Argos that was coming. The storm got bigger than they expected and I had to leave. Its all explained in the video along with plenty of cars in the ditch on the drive home.

    what a bummer...ya that lake effect is hard to judge but once it let's go you can get snowed in quickly. PS when I had my F350 diesel 20 inches is no problem...weight is definitely your friend in the snow✌

    Ah Man, you should be able to push 24" of snow with your Diesel P/U very easy. I had a Dodge 4-wheel drive and ran it in the mountains in 36" of snow without spinning a wheel. Mine did sit up some higher than yours does though.

    That's one thing I don't miss about winter driving in wisconsin calls going in ditches but then again florida driving isn't any better due to everybody being from all over the place and not looking where there going and car accident after car accident

    Old man winter is coming here in the Allegheny Mountains. Calling for 12" as of right now, hard to say how much we will get. Today I was scrambling to get the old International ready for snow duty. Tomorrow is going to be another crazy day. The wind is ripping so hard up here on the mountain, just lost one of my window screens!! That's a bummer you had to cut the season early, but you have to be safe. I am just hoping this snow sticks around for our season opener. Haven't had a white deer season in a few years now. Have a great weekend.......Darryl, AML.

    Joe, I hate you had to cut your trip short. But it is better to be safe that sorrow! We are leaving in the morning to the bus for our rifle season opener on Monday morning. Yesterday the temperatures was in the low 70's, and today it was in the 50's and by afternoon it dropped in the 40's and right now it is about 32 degrees and we have had some sleet and some snow, just a dusting of snow though. The winds though have been 15 to 25 mph with some higher gusts! Tomorrow it isn't suppose to get out of the 30's. I guess this is your cold front hitting us now. Oh, I see you use the same green water jugs that we use. I like them bit I hate the air plug, they don't stay in very well. Enjoyed the video and I could tell it was probably miserable in that stand that morning! Juddie

    I don't know, I think I would have stayed, if I had to drive that far for a dear, but my back yard here just 39 km NW of Thunder Bay Ont. in Kaministiquia Ont. my back yard and whole property is loaded with Dear, to were I cant grow a garden any more do to high numbers I take my pick, and take 4 to 5 out a year our opener is Oct. 6th each year and Closes Dec. 15th, much the same for moose, day before yesterday it started to rain heavy, rain turned to high winds 50 to 60 km per hour, rain turned slowly to heavy snow, and high winds over night, by the end of day yesterday I had 12 inch's of snow with 3 foot drifts, my 4x4 went though it like nothing, (Heavy Crap) as I was saying I think I would have stayed as by Tuesday it is to go back up to plus 4 to plus 6 all week, so I don't think it will stay. Lake Superior keeps use weather warm until it freezes over as well most times keeps the bigger stomas to the north of use. first snow has never stayed

    Hi Joe, you may be over thinking the the new diesel truck, i have driven diesels for the past 25 plus years and whilst some lack the top end punch their low down rely ablity is great. take it out side you comfort zone and give it a spin. A mate of mine has the 7.3ltr diesel in the Ford F250 and it kicks ass in the wet season mud, which would be like your snow.

    Hairy ride home! The area you are hunting... does it not allow a permanent deer blind? Since you guys have such rough winters I thought ppl would go for something that would knock the weather more. We are several hundred miles south of you in southern Ky, and I know guys who have built small houses on stilts, lol. With rolling padded desk chairs to roll from window to window. Propane heat etc. I have hunted from a pop up blind for 14 years or so. As I get older I find the more comfy I am the longer I can stay and better chances I have. Got a 3 point last Saturday. Just don't see the numbers we did a few years ago.

    ..That pickup would have been just fine, from my experience, in many inches of new fluffy snow at speed, with proper tires. Heavier truck digs to the hard stuff, and unlimited torque of a diesel gets you out of the thicker stuff. Next year !

    Bummer about missing the last 3 days of the season. They probably would have been moving good after the storm. But then again if you stayed and got a deer and couldn't leave that probably would have been way worse. Best to play it safe and get home safe, cause there's always next season. Just seems like forever when you go seasons with no deer. I'm in MA and in the last week of archery and still nothing seen a few just out of range. Hopefully better luck with shotgun season next week. Thanks take care joe glad you made it home safe.

    say it aint so Joe! say it aint so..... i plow snow here in Michigan with that truck actually a bit smaller but you should have NO issue with 20" of snow!! good snow tires and 4 low you will pull your house over in 20"! lol you could have hooked every car you saw in the ditches to the back like a train and pulled them all out at once! i understand learning the truck i wouldnt want to be without till spring!!! hope you can hunt around home maybe get some meat for the freezer

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  7 років тому +3

      The biggest issue which I should have explained in the video is the driveway. With the trees on each side and the 40 plus mph winds the snow likes to drift in two places. The one place is about a 2 hundred foot drift area. You can have 12 inches of snow on the ground and a drift thats 2 hundred feet long up over your waistline. This snow was a heavy wet snow and the temp was going to drop into the teens which would have made a couple hundred feet of a waist deep chunk of very hard snow. Just a little to much to chance for me. I bet the new girl would have made it though. lol lol.

    July, 31, 2020. So good to be back at the tent. Who could have imagined our country as it is today. Pandemic, riots....

    Awww, sorry u had to end your trip to soon Joe but it looked like u made the right call. Those roads were horrible. All those wrecks in a normally 4 hr trip, geesh. It's hard to believe winter is basically here. U could hear relief at finally being home to. I love snow but not traveling in it. My late ex was the best at driving in it I've ever seen. Did any of the family get a deer this year??

      My brother Chris and his wife Teresa and her brother Johann (you see them in the duck hunting videos) have property kind of by the park rapids area (I think) They got 4 deer. They manage the 160 acre property for deer so I am not sure if they were culling doe again like last year or if they got some nice bucks. Teresa did not post any pictures on Facebook so I dont think they got anything real big but plenty of venison for sure and thats what its all about. i will find out at this years Christmas party. Thanks Debbie. Joe

    Was wondering when did the tent get power so you could stop relying on the Honda 3000?
