In Spain a year's rain fell in 24 hours, in the UK we had a month's rain in 24 hours. These are unprecedented levels of rainfall in a year where rain records have been smashed. Sadly that is what to blame, money spent on higher and higher flood walls is less money for hospitals.

The water was up to the top of the wall and overflowing, the fire service was there pumping water away. The pressure went up on the wall that was only built in 2007 after it's last collapse, it was too much and the wall gave. I walk along market street today and it was like a disaster movie mud and rubble everywhere. A big clean up operate is now taking place and the road may be reopened on the 27th.

    Dam removal programs 🤨
The EU has programs to encourage the restoration of rivers to their natural state. These programs have led to the removal of dams in Spain and the UK, including:
Spain: In 2022, Spain removed 133 dams and in 2021, it removed 108. In 2023, Spain was in second place for the number of dams removed, behind France.
UK: In 2023, the UK removed 36 barriers.

Yeah because they won't work and they just send the water down to the next town to get double the flood. This is a Medieval town, it was built in a place safe from floods when the river was natural, twisty with flood plains and reed beds. Attempts to create an efficient river have caused this. But hey that's just science eh.

The water levels by the walled off brook is normally ten feet below and runs right along and through the town, it’s a medieval town in origin, and the local council cordoned off the street and blocked traffic so no one would have been around to see it, plus it was a Sunday morning so it was even quieter than normal. 4" of fast running water can knock people off their feet and carry them away. This looked at least 18" and even deeper in the direction it was flowing from. This is not funny.
