Back when Nigahiga was the #1 guy on UA-cam, back when KevJumba was out there making wholesome content with his dad, back when Wong Fu came out with Yellow Fever and got all the Nice Guys to shoot their shots, back when Bart & Joe were Unko Sam and Unko Chin, back when Freddie Wong made us laugh with over the top explosions, back when Kaba Modern made us all want to learn to dance, back when Michelle Phan and Bubzbeauty taught us how to get that perfect cat's eye...
I could go on and on. Vloggers, comedians, musicians, style gurus, dancers, filmmakers... You all just made good content because you wanted to; before the algorithm, before the ads. You didn't know it back then, but you guys helped crack that bamboo ceiling for us without even aiming to. We can live in a post Crazy Rich Asians world and you guys helped us get there.

This comment really hit home for me and brought me to tears... if it weren't for these amazing, genuine people we could look up to while navigating through my teens, I don't believe I would have been as confident in my identity or creative in my works as I am today.
I think I can speak for all of us when I say, you guys left a huge impact in our lives. You showed us we weren't alone and that we didn't have to fit the mold or labels society gave us. Thank you for being our role models and for inspiring our generation to be more!

Remember when You and your friends wore beanies, glasses with no lenses playing hey soul sister on ukelele. When you and your homies would try to copy Mike Song's Wii song choreo in the garage or when you were absolutely in love with two Twin sisters from Australia harmonizing with eachother?
Maybe you were chillin at school listening to we could happen on your ipod shuffle, or Victor kim and cathy nguyen singing covers. I miss my childhood, but glad that to say that i grew up in this era of UA-cam.

I actually bought a ukulele, had a collection of 3D movie glasses with no lenses and tried to teach the Wii song choreo to my friends in high school.

started with passion then branched out to everyone else here on YT. crazy to see where everyone else is right now. dads, moms, mainstream artists, business owners. some still continue to this day and some have never come back. thank you to everyone who put themselves out there. you will never truly know how you guys affected me and the millions out there and get us through hard times.

thank you aj. thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ a lot of these songs actually remind me of the times where i used to listen to music everyday, and sing and play and create music; and not for the views, but for when i had passion and was in love with music. ive been so caught up with working in the hospital and consumed in stress and forgot that music was what got me through the tough times when words weren't enough to express myself.

AJ, thank you so much for making this. I feel quite emotional right now thinking at how much time has really passed and it’s bringing back the memories of a simpler time. The Asian American era of YT came to me at a crucial time and was really important to me growing up having just moved from the PH to the States. That dissonance between my Filipino persona and a newfound American identity was tough. I’m in my 20s now and can proudly say that I am neither nationality, but am proudly an Asian-American.
