- Reviewing the Xiaomi Mi 11, a fresh 2021 flagship phone boasting a pro 108MP camera, Snapdragon 888 smarts, a mighty 120Hz QHD+ screen and MiUI 12. I've been testing the global version of the Xiaomi Mi 11 as my full-time smartphone and it's definitely the best new flagship handset, trumping Samsung's Galaxy S21 in a few key areas.

Xiaomi's camera tech is flexible and dependable, offering particularly impressive night performance and the same 8K video smarts as the S21. You can blaze through any games out there - I've been testing Genshin Impact, Call of Duty, PubG and other popular 2021 Android titles and they run perfectly even on high detail settings. You also get 5G support, plus WiFi 6.
Android 11 is on board the Xiaomi Mi 11, topped with MiUI 12. The result is a feature-packed smartphone, with some great additions including those video tools. Speaking of which, the 6.81-inch AMOLED screen is slick and smooth, if not quite as eye-catching as Samsung's Dynamic AMOLED displays. You get strong audio smarts here too.

Love your videos, and you're one the few channels that I type their channel specifically whenever I'm looking for an honest, no BS review.
I just want to suggest that you mark the timeline of the video to segments like "Camera, Overview, Price ..etc." as it makes looking back through your video to find a specific information much more efficient.

There`s no much adds in MIUI at all and they all can be hidden, even in native apps, three dots on upper right corner and tap hide/turn off recomendations. There`s tutorials here on YT if youre not quite sure how to do it.
The notification problem can be tied to the "miui battery optimizations" that can be turned on/off for each app individually!
That didn't always fix it when I used miui, although that was a while ago.
Nah even with the Mi 5 the problem was there and the battery optimization didn't fix it 100%. Shame they still have this problem
Disabled MIUI optimization in my Mi 9 and I have no problem with notifications.

Have a Poco X3 as a spare phone and it's superb for the £159 I paid.
What puts me off buying a more expensive Xiaomi is the apparent total lack of customer service in case of issues or repair in the UK.
One look on Trustpilot confirming this has put me off paying out for a more expensive model.

Any chance you'll be getting your hands on the Vivo iQOO 7? I know you usually cover phones that are officially available in the UK and as of now the iQOO 7 is only offered in China but one of the reasons I am considering it (I live in the US) is because like my Realme X2 Pro now, it has many of the 4G LTE bands that will make using it in the US with no issues. Would love to get your thoughts on that device especially with its new Origin OS running on it. Love your vids, keep up the great work.

that delayed notification issue is for other Xiaomi devices too. i would go see and delete my emails etc and an hour or two later get the notification for the email. Its been like that for ages.
That notification but has literally been around for about 4 years... Left Miui back in 2017, returned with the Poco X3.. same bug lol

It is not a bug imo. They have quite aggressive per app battery management. Go to said app info, disable battery restriction. OR in settings go to app batter saver, select app, select no restriction. Now push messages of said apps are not hindered.

@@kabukidreamboy or you could go to developer settings, disable miui optimization which literally eliminate MIUI's settings from auto starts to battery optimization.
I like that little trick, it's buried way down at the bottom of developer options. I also turned off the notify high risk features!
The notification "bug" has occurred on both my POCO phones (F1 and X3) across 3 different versions of MIUI. I don't consider it a bug any more, but a decision by the MIUI software devs who seem intent on stopping any app running ever - even when their phones have massive batteries and huge RAM. The menu settings can be set exactly as they should be, and still notifications randomly refuse to work for a while, then suddenly start again. They also mess with standard android settings to an extent that makes the use of things like Tasker very difficult,.
Custom ROMs solve that problem (but introduce their own issues).The most annoying thing is that I like many things about MIUI - the recents screen and the gestures are great, video and game toolboxes have nice features - their hardware is generally solid, but they make it impossible to recommend to any 'normal' person because of the notification issues imo.

I know you don't like the phones with the Samsung chips, but I'm very excited for the 888 s21. Wireless Dex is fun, and to be fair, Samsung has the BEST mobile file manager (imo).

Any chance of a tips and tricks video to get the best out of the handset, including battery life and charging, and camera settings, screen settings, etc.
Poco X3 currently on MIUI 12 over Android 10 user here. I have also noticed that notifications come in late for certain apps, Instagram DMs in particular.
MIUI has an aggressive RAM management i.e. killing background apps in order to get better battery life. We can get better RAM usage by disabling MIUI optimization in the developer settings. The trade off is a slightly worse battery life.
I wish they would release some decent mid range phones in the UK. Instead of releasing phones with underpowered Snapdragon or Mediatek chips.

I've owned and fondled several Xiaomi handsets over the years, and enjoyed these phones immensely. Xiaomi has been a great alternative to Samsung and Google Android phones. Lately I found Xiaomi baked ROMs to be ad heavy, with annoying pop ups. I made the decision to go back to Pixel and enjoy a clean android experience. Another great vid my fellow bald bro. It's easy to disable them. Takes 2 minutes. I get 0 ads on mi 10t lite.

Support ? All regions of support always seem lacking in these far Eastern wonders. What sim do you use el spurto ? Do you get all the network features? 5G, volte , WiFi calling , visual voicemail et al?
Does your unit have the February security update yet? What's your experience of that side of things.
that notification thing is a real deal breaker, had the same issue on an old Huawei for a few years back, was never fixed. I can't see myself upgrading from my S20 fe for a long time.

I disabled MIUI optimization and not facing any problem with notification. Btw, do your FE suffer from touchscreen issues? My friend got a FE LTE (Exynos 990) and he is facing a lot of problems with erratic touchscreen and phone heating up even while doing simple tasks like watching youtube.

The issues with auto brightness and missing or slow notifications seem to be bugs in android 11. I have the same issues with my Samsung 10+. The notifications seems to have settled down now but auto brightness is still too bright in the evening or at night.

For notifications turn off cache wiping when screen is locked, because it is killing running apps only, and not wiping that huge pile of app cache.
Hey dude, I love your frank way of speaking and going on without no holds barred!. Your review has helped me gain insight into the Mi 11. I do have a favour to ask. I've now got a Poco F1 since 2018 and am looking for something to upgrade to!. I'm only concerned with the RAM/ROM, speed, storage and ease of use! I'm not really fussed about cameras. As far as the safety is concerned, I usually buy a protective case. I was hoping you could recommend me a new replacement for my poco F1, bearing everything in mind I've already said.

Wondering if notifications has something to do with the network one is using. I use Android and have discovered sending Whatsapps to iPhones, sends my side with double tick. But takes ages if not hours for iPhone user to get the notification at times.
Mate glad you didn't get any buggy MIUI ads, happens to many down here in NZ 😡. Could you give some insight into the US defence force putting Xiaomi on a list which may end in the company been banned from using the Google apps similar to Huawei.

The phone sounds alright, but seeing the recorded footage towards the end was somewhat off putting, looked very sharp in areas when panning, like over processed.
I'm running the P30 Pro for the past 16 months and thinking of upgrading to something else, was considering one of the S21 series (possibly the ultra), but never tried an Xiamoi model, but was almost tempted with the Mi10 T series.
