Nedra Pauling Sandwich Nintendo didn't wanted to stay with rareware any more because the contract was broken and after cbfd Nintendo was very angry with rare
The last one...with Conker...perfect way to end a legacy. I dream of the day Nintendo brings back Rare and the rights to all the classics they made in collaboration with eachother.
Nintendo 64 was where Rare REALLY shined, doing brilliant games of both platforming and fps genres whilst dabbling in fighters, racers and the truly unique blast corps. Pity Microsoft came along and fucked everything up...but the money that was offered would have been almost impossible to turn down!
I'm 17 and I agree on everybody's opinion about Rareware being the greatest game company. Damn I miss Rareware and their humorous kick ass creativity. GoldenEye, Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong Country, Conker, Perfect Dark, and Banjo Koozie were the best in the 90s -;D
Rareware is what made Donkey Kong the amazing franchise that it is today, and without them I wouldn't be appreciating the DK series to the extent that I have for it today. I still have much appreciation for Retro Studios and the amazing success that they've provided the series with...but I would die to see a new DK game (preferably a sequel to 64) with the Nintendo logo greeted shortly after by the Rare icon. That would be a dream come true.
This is very cool! I wish Rareware could make more Banjo Kazooie games and more Conker games, I missed them so much! I also wish for them to make Timber 64 and Twelve Tales: Conker's Quest instead of them being cancelled.
Rare was something wouldn't they? Imagine had Rare stayed with Nintendo, we would have gotten Banjo-Threeie, Conker's Other Bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong Racing, and a direct sequel to DK64 on the Gamecube along with other new franchises and sequels that only lord knows. It's sad what happened to Rare after they were bought out by Microsoft, and I wish we were living in a alternate universe where they were still with Nintendo.
when rare was on nintendo they were unstopable, with the inovative gameplay, amazing graphics, and unbelieveable original music rareware changed the world of gaming 4ever, when microsoft bought them they went 2 shit, i stikk cant believe they remade conker's bad fur day 4 the xbox but money does crazy things 2 people, conker's bad fur day was a masterpiece, 2 this day i still cant believe they were able 2 fit so many amazing things n2 a 64 bit game cartridge
If you want to see some evidence of Rare's greatness without playing any of their games, you just have to watch this video. Their polish was extraordinary and it really did result in the best collection of games available on the N64. A mundane logo showcase which other developers would be quick to get out of the way is turned into a show of its own by Rare. The Goldeneye and Perfect Dark logos create fucking chills - is it a coincidence that they're the best FPSes on the N64 (by a canyon and a half) and two of the best FPSes of all time? Meanwhile, the Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day logos explode with personality. It's my belief that the former is the best 3D platformer ever made and the latter isn't far behind. I may get some grief from Mario fanboys for saying that, but no one can deny that those games are truly special
To those ranting and whining about how Rare was "ruined" by Microsoft, get this. Nintendo was poisoning Rare by being restrictive with the things they can do with their games. A Rare dev (not sure if still there or former) mentioned that Microsoft offered more freedom with the games they can make. Think about it, there was content cut out of some of their games, especially ones like Conker's Bad Fur Day because Nintendo did not approve of that content. Recently, Rare has been doing good things such as the Rare Replay collection and Sea of Thieves. No more of that Kinect garbage. If you're gonna call me a "MS/Xbox Fanboy", fuck off. I'm both into Nintendo and Xbox, mostly the former (which is Nintendo). Yes, it sucks we won't see Rare games anymore on Nintendo consoles aside from the re-releases of the DK Country & Land trilogies and DK64, but shit happens whether we like it or not. If you're both into Nintendo and Xbox, then it's a win-win for you as you can still play those Rareware-made DK games as well as other Rare games like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day, but only on the Xbox 360/One.
+Sergeant Sunflower Really, because Conker Live & Reloaded censored more stuff than the original N64 version. And Nuts & Bolts and Sea of Thieves are the only actual games Rare has put out in the 13 years that they've been with Microsoft (which the latter isn't even out yet). Rare Replay is cool but it's nothing new, just all their old games in one package. Whether or not Microsoft "gave them more freedom," nobody can deny that they were much more relevant and successful with Nintendo, and it's a damn shame to see such a once-thriving company go to shit.
+Sergeant Sunflower lol Nintendo didn't censor them at all. Conker wasn't censored, Goldeneye wasn't as well (to an extent). What I've heard that it was a budget issue between both Rare and Ninty. If anything Microsoft censored Rare the most with all those OG Xbox - Xbox 360 cancelled games and Live & Reloaded.
n atira so humana Yes, they did. Not as much as Live & Reloaded, but they still censored them. Examples include the F-word. And some cutscenes were removed/replaced (one of which I'm glad they actually cut). GoldenEye was originally going to be more violent from what I heard until Miyamoto stepped his sassy ass right in and had the violence toned down. I think that might've been for the best because more gory gameplay isn't all that fitting for 007. Dinosaur Planet could've been a great game, but once again Miyamoto stepped in and had the game reworked for GameCube and make it a Star Fox game. The game itself was good back in the day and a good game to go out with a bang before moving over toe Microsoft. So far I've seen no restrictions put on Rare for their games as of the MS era, BARRING Live & Reloaded. I don't play every Rare game so I don't know.
***** Miyamoto didn't suggest to tone down the violence. He suggested to add an ending scene with Bond shaking hands with everyone he killed in a hospital. Rare didn't do that, they toned down the violence/blood instead. And really... I don't remember no one saying a thing about censoring the "fucks" in Conker, but L&R didn't even have the "shits" ay lmaoo
