Hey! For those of you who are regulars to this channel, you've probably seen all these videos before, but as with every year I like to upload a film which is all the beekeeping episodes of the season combined together. Hope you enjoy learning about bees and I'll be back next year with more beekeeping episodes!

When working around tools that have spinning arbors and spindles you should remove or secure any loose fitting clothing like long sleeves and scarves. One slip of an errant string getting wound around the arbor of the circular saw and your face can be drawn very rapidly to the spinning blade, or the saw can come out of your hand and run towards your face. Please take safety measures. I like seeing your videos and I’d hate to find out that you’ve been injured.

Seconding this, watching with friends and we all simultaneously gasped when we saw how close his scarf was to the blade. Biiiiiiig nono.

Your drip candles are lovely but they also take forever. Your own hives might be able to create enough wax for you to give every customer a tea light candle with their honey

This is the sort of video where my heart goes "oh man I wish I could do this, maybe when I have a house" but my brain remembers that I don't have the sort of self-discipline and motivation for this sort of thing and I'd probably end up with a dead bee colony or they'd just... leave. Very inspirational video, through and through!

Did you know you can make food grade soda crystals (sodium carbonate) by baking baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) at 150C for 1-2 hours in the oven?
Spread a thin (1cm) layer on a tray. Use fan mode for consistent temp.
Water and CO2 is released as it changes state.
The final product will weigh 63% of the original weight (when 100% converted).
Cooking too hot (200C+) can cause sodium carbonate to decompose further into sodium oxide (makes drain cleaner in water apparently), so don't go over 150C.
Not sure if the stuff you're using is food grade but this is a very cheap and easy way to get food grade soda crystals from supermarket products that you can be sure won't contain harmful impurities (heavy metals etc) that might end up in your bees and honey.
    Very enjoyable video, thanks!

Quin will stop or not lay any eggs if there is no food in the hive. Once she sees that there is nectar coming in she will start laying again. Do not kill the queen straight away try feeding them sugar sirup first.

My super is the same size as the brood box, both being full size. I have a Flow Hive so it's easier to extract the honey but yes is can get very heavy. My husbnad usually lifts it for me to do the brood inspections but I am wanting to build a stand where I can remove some of the super Flow frames to lighten it before I try to lift it myself.

Hi Glenn, thanks for your videos. I always find them awesome and great for learning. We had an issue last week where we had a small swarm that absconded again, which we caught and put back and decided to add some brood and nurse bees from another hive which it had originally swarmed from. What followed was a massacre. Luckily I had separated the queen and had her in a cage. We are notbsure whether the swarm killed all the nurse bees or vice versa. What did we do wrong. The queen and the other bees are now doing fine, but seeing the massacre was awful and it was all over in minutes. Thanks Sue

    Hi Alex.
I'm a relatively new subscriber and found your channel a couple of months back. I watched year one and then year 2.....now throughly enjoying year 3 all the episodes together. I have always been fascinated about bee's and their hives and after watching your first year videos I am truly hooked. I now follow other bee keeper's and am finding learning a great distraction from my health issues. Due to yourself and some other bee keeper's I am going to get in touch with my local bee keeping club and see if I can get involved....so thank you 💜
Do you follow aaand watch Jeff Horchoff Bee's? As a lot of the things you were talking about and questioning are covered by Jeff also. The way I have seen others use elastic bands is from corner to corner...then tou lay down your cut comb in the frame with the elastic bands then becoming underneath that piece of comb....then corner to corner again with 2 more elastic bands. That way there seems to be less disturbance to the hive bee's and also the brood comb.
You can really see how far you have come since you started out and your enthusiasm is very contagious. Isn't the West County such a beautiful place...I used to live in North Devon.
Oh also have you heard about or read about fume boards for pushing down the bee's out of the super for collection time?
Again well done and can't wait to see how big your honey harvest is as I am about half way through this collection of videos 💜
