  • This thing is a piece of garbage. I have sunk about $120 into this machine. It is not even worth $120 by it self. This is by far one of the worst Macs ever made.

Funny enough, this white mid 2010 unibody acrylic macbook is personally for me one of the most iconic product of Apple...

Yeah same, calling it garbage is kind of a disservice to the laptop, I put in a SSD and 8 gigs of ram, used it from 2017-2023 and it served me wonderfully, never failed me.

With an SSD and 8GBs of RAM, they actually run well even today. A magic eraser will remove the dirt and yellowing from the bottom.

I know a friend who used one of these until 2021. He bought a 2010 model with a 500GB HHD and 4GB of RAM in 2011 right before they were discontinued and was keen on "using it for 10 years". He upgraded to a MacBook Pro 14" and was so mad at himself for not upgrading sooner.

12:30 To be fair, most other $1,000 laptops were made of plastic back in 2010.

I glued white feet onto the bottom, i cleaned the bottom first with alcohol and a spunge, it was almost as good as new. I threw in an ssd, it has 8gb of ram and it runs mojave, it has the original battery with 80 percent of health and almost 900 cycles, and it still runs on batteries for about 3 hours, which is not bad! I made 1 perfect macbook out of 2, i have a black keyboard in my model and a blue-ish apple logo on the back. It's not a bad mac, for light use, it is enough

This MacBook is gorgeous when it’s in great condition, it’s hard to find these in tip top shape unfortunately

I actually use one of these things. I use it for schoolwork, entertainment, you name it. It still has the original hard disk and ram. Yes, it is incredibly slow but I don't see the need to pay for anything newer because it still accomplishes everything I need it to.

Have you looked into updating the laptop even further by using the opencore loader? I have a 2014 MacBook Air which natively supports up to Big Sur, but I have upgraded it up to Ventura and it’s even Sonoma compatible as well. The only downside is the paltry 4GB ram. Perhaps you’d be able to get up to Sonoma working on this machine.

The sacrifices and losses this man takes to make videos for us is insane. It shows real dedication there, well done..!

About the RAM, the speed of the RAM just isn't supported on that MacBook. By putting the old 2GB RAM module in, that lowers the speed of the 8GB module to match the 2GB module. You gotta watch the RAM speed, because I've made this same mistake. I tried upgrading a 2008 white MacBook to 4GB from 2GB, which was already an upgrade from the stock 1GB, and 4GB didn't work, so I just put the 1GB module that was in there with the 2GB module I had, and it worked. Basically if you want 16GB, you'll need to buy new RAM that is the speed that the MacBook is compatible with. The RAM you bought is compatible with Macs from 2011 or later, not 2010 Macs.

Thanks. What confused me was the fact that I have used that ram once before in both 2010 MacBook pros and this specific MacBook.

I agree it's a piece of junk. I have 3 in total. One 2009 white Macbook that works fine but tends to overheat, another white one that couldn't be repaired so now it's e-waste, and a 2007 black Macbook that turns on but has a dead screen.

I have one of those. It was sent to me. I forgot the password because I was using my Ipads so much. I need to take it to a shop to get it working again. The bottom white case feels yucky. Thanks for doing this video. Now I can upgrade it. I will use it to play older software and play music.

Had the exact same issue on a 2012 Macbook Pro A1278. Bought one for parts, repaired and upgraded it, fitted it with 16GB RAM. No issues.
Bought the exact same RAM kit, same seller, same brand, same part number, same everything again, for another A1278 model 2012 MBP 13 inch... wouldn't work, as in your video it kept beeping non-stop. Took the RAM out and tried using the 8GB RAM it came with - it worked fine. Replaced both RAM sticks for 16GB - beeping.... replaced one RAM Stick so it was 4GB + 8GB for a total of 12GB - started beeping again...
In the end I just took the ram upgrade kit back out and left it with the default RAM.

I had one of these and I loved it but after sometime the eyesight camera failed. I took it to the Apple Store and they couldn't fix it but they ended up swapping it with the first aluminium unibody MacBook a definite win for me.

Keep up the good work buddy. Love your channel. A cool video idea could be to see if the m1 MacBook Air or pro can have a notch display put on them somehow 🤣. Or building a hackintosh into an old Mac mini. 👍

Lol Clickbait? just because its old it's not Junk. plus, back when it was released it was a very good laptop for its time. The beginning of the video is more like a hate speach the way u seem to be aggressive,

    • @JaydonWalter
      @JaydonWalter  4 місяці тому +2

I said it was a decent last top when it was released. However, the top
Video is why it’s a “GarbageBook” therefore I stand to my thumbnail and title lol. I could not imagine using it to this day. I was also talking crap about it mainly because the one I had was so broken you could barely use it for parts. But hey, I made it working and turned it into an “okay” computer.

Oh no, well sometimes in America throwing things that are already broken doesn’t make us feel bad. Since they cannot be repaired.
