Love the way you slice up these breaks. Amazing stuff. Takes me back to the 90s 👍

Thanks James! The think break is one of the best to chop imo, and there are four different ones to choose from! Thanks for the comment

    Another quality video!!!
Would love a video where you walk through how you clean/prepare a break, specifically the EQ'ing and your approach to warping.

Thanks danny! Absolutely - I think there are some amen videos where I do that, but I know that involves trawling through my streams. Defo one for the content plan tho, I'd like to dedicate more time to off stream vids like this in the future, it's just much quicker going live for me sometimes with my hectic life schedule. But 100% noted!

I learn so much from watching these! It's great and thanks. Any chance you have one with more drum sound design stuff as well?

Thanks Adi, I'm really glad to hear that! So far, it's been mainly breakbeats but I occasionally dabble with stuff like that. I'm quite happy using drum sounds as they come, from sample packs or whatever, so I tend to just choose sounds 'off the shelf', if you like. Have you checked the Creative FX processing vid I did with the Funky Drummer? Not really sound design per se, but I do go through my basic approach to processing, and adding mad fx.
I like to frame anything like that within an actual piece of music I'm writing, so unless I have call for a particular type of sound I often just use a preset, or sample that fits with the music.

@@HumanSynthetics Got you and thanks for replying. I’m going over all your videos now and following your technique, ideas and insights. Extremely interesting. It’s like actually being in a session with a pro and gives a lot of ideas and knowledge. The sound design question mainly comes from my interest in the sounds Venetian Snares is producing.

@@shualiko you're too kind! Thank you.
Ahhh I see. Well, Ned Rush has some pretty excellent vids on stuff like that. You can get similar results to Venetian Snares using generative stuff in ableton, like random selection of samples in Sampler and stuff like that. Ned Rush's Aphex vid is particularly worth a look!

Hello again - a question re pitch: When I try this I need for some reason to choose the specific sample within the rack on the envelopes pull down, and I can see you're actually using this differently. Meaning you simply go with the pitch envelope and wherever it falls, that's the sound the envelope impacts... How's that?

Hi Adi, good question! I think I know what you're talking about. In my how to chop an amen break (check Popular Uploads) I make a Drum Rack chopping preset, which I'm using here. That maps all of the slices to a macro Pitch control. That's what I'm adjusting here. There's a little more to it than that, I'd recommend watching that vid if you haven't already as from memory I go through it step by step. Let me know how you get on! Could be worth a vid on its own down the line. I'd certainly like to do a more glossy one on the Think.

Hi Jo Jo, thanks for the comment - I sampled these straight from Spotify as it happens, but you could do the same from UA-cam. For now I've put a link to the clean Thinks in the video description. If you want more I've got this project on my Patreon, along with some more Think stuff. Happy chopping.

@@JoJO-px9fi No worries :) yeah it's just the cleaned samples so you should be able to open them on any version, or another DAW. 9 is the version that made me an addict :)
