  • So, what do you think? Is this the "Chevron Firewood Snare" or the "Charlie Brown Snare"?
Thanks to Mike Fulton for the diameter gauge idea: • Making a Snare Drum
And, as ever, thanks for watching!

Will absolutely steal that gauge idea.

Not my idea. Thanks for reminding me to give credit where it's due. I'll add it in the description.

Love your videos. They have already motivated me to build a prototype drum shell that turned out pretty well. So, thanks for that.
As a suggestion though, I think if you lower the blade on your table saw you will get less chatter and a cleaner cut. I could take up a couple of paragraphs trying to explain it but instead I'll suggest you watch Stumpy Nubs video "ENOUGH BS! Here's how high your table saw blade should be"
He can explain it 5 minutes with visuals what would take me spending the next 30 minutes typing!
Hope that helps a little. Keep the videos coming!

Glad to see you upgraded your table saw, I'm sure it's made the whole process easier for you...keep up the great videos I really enjoy them.

That’s a beautiful looking drum, perhaps the best yet.

I think it should be called the Charlie Brown snare

Wonderful! Beautiful work! Love how the vent turned out, and is a great way to hide the misalignment.
Quick question: Do you typically mill to the 13.75" diameter as apposed to the standard 13.875"?

    • @JosephCenter
      @JosephCenter  4 роки тому +1

Yeah, I like the 13.75. Just personal preference.

That going to be a beautiful drum. You have really upped you game on your equipment - nice. I would love to have a thickness planner, but no space - no money... I use the sled for cutting all edges on the staves - including when i am cutting the angle. maybe it is just my saw, but I get a better edge than when I use the fence.

Hi Joseph. Just learning here. Been watching you for a while! I noticed when you're milling the outside that there's some wobble in your jigg. You you find that there's any issues coming from that?

    • @JosephCenter

No substantial issues, not that diligent sanding doesn't resolve. I've wanted to rebuild for ages because of that very thing. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

    You're becoming an artist....
Play it? Put it in an art gallery?
Play it? Put it in an art gallery?
Or sell it for enough to pay off
    your house, college debt,.....
..... and a new table saw.

Bro for the love of your hands please use a push.

Pushers are for beginners. Really only need one when your getting into an inch. Don’t be scared! My question tho Joseph, are you worried about your end grain coming apart over time? I have a similar idea to what you are doing. But am worried glueing end grain to end grain will fault over time.

@@1bigdrums seat belts in cars are for beginners. There's a grocery store a mile from my house. I've been driving for over ten years. I only use the seat belt to driver farther distances. I'm not saying you CAN'T safely go without using something to push but PPE, and safe common practices, are always a good thing regardless of skills/experience.

I wouldn't say that push sticks are "for beginners," necessarily, but I do have a reason for not using them while running staves through the table saw. I want as much control as possible and I get that by direct contact with the stave. I want to run it through slowly and evenly. When the staves/pieces are smaller (and frankly the staves on this thing are relatively huge), I'll use a push stick. Bottom line: I only do what I feel comfortable doing. If there's a warning bell in my head, I use a push stick.
And, dude, wear a seat belt all the time. For real. My day job is lawyer. My clients are mostly trucking companies and railroad companies. Just because you're close to home doesn't mean other drivers aren't more careful or less distracted.

Yeah, I'm worried about the end-grain connection. I have a plan, though. As long as the shell survives the inside milling process, I'll be able to apply it. It will all come through in the next video for this drum in a couple weeks.
