    Just a nitpick, but you disconnected your positive lead to the battery (the one that is shrouded so it won't short if something metal touches it. Typically, you disconnect the ground lead. Great vid!

      That's not a nitpick, it's critical. That's how batteries explode. It's how wedding rings burn flesh down to the bone. Please don't take battery safety lightly. There are much better ways to lose a finger or a lung.

      @@earlebird4262 Agreed. All you have to do when you're taking off the positive terminal is touch the inner fender with the end of your wrench, weld it in place, and then you have real trouble. Possibly a battery explosion and/or fire which will ruin your whole day and perhaps ruin your car too. Taking off the negative side is nearly idiot proof so ALWAYS disconnect the negative side.

    Instead of pulling the fuel relay, you can just pop the electrical connector off the fuel pump assembly and turn the car over a few times. Just did this on a 2003 Miata.

      Exactly. You'll have to remove it later in any case to remove the pump assembly.

    Disconnect your negative cable not the positive. This is critical. Also, no reason to unplug the fuel pump relay. Unplug the pump connector at the pump itself. Don't be redundant. And you do not need a tool to remove the fuel lines. If you pinch the outermost edge(the white plastic with clips) and pull the fuel line then the retainer with clips stays on the metal line while the plastic hose slips off easily. Also, this could've been a 5 minute video. But glad someone took the time to make this. Cheers.

    I ran into an issue regarding my '03 Miata. Does the '03 have a cabin filter. One website states there is a cabin filter and offers replacements and another web site stated
    there is NO filter?

    Hey! Great vid! Thanks for the indepth instructions and tips.
    Question: Regarding removing the connector and running the fuel out, could I just disconnect the electrical connector on the fuel pump? or do I have to remove the one under the dashboard?
    Thanks!

    How do you tell if the fuel pump is bad?

    • @cen7ury
      @cen7ury 3 роки тому

      Easiest way to tell is to listen by the fuel fill pipe with the gas cap off while someone else turns the key to 'on' (but not start). You should hear a high pitched whining or buzzing sound for 1-2 seconds right when you turn the key to on...thats the fuel pump priming. If you don't hear that, you likely have a bad fuel pump.

    • @c4veman
      @c4veman 2 роки тому

      @@cen7ury what are the dangers of a bad fuel pump anyways? Just bought a 99 the other day and today when i started it i heard the whining right behind me that lasted for a good 15 seconds maybe? also starts whining again when i turn the car off

    • @cen7ury
      @cen7ury 2 роки тому

      @@c4veman Generally, the main danger of a bad fuel pump is your vehicle not starting. Occasionally a pump might go bad while the vehicle is running, causing it to stall out and not start back up, but that's pretty rare, and usually would only happen when you're running on fumes, since the fuel in your tank is what cools the fuel pump...so no fuel means the fuel pump can overheat and sieze up.
      If you're hearing the fuel pump operating, that's a good thing. Fuel pumps don't usually give much (if any) warning before they stop working, at least not in my experience, so if its working now you're good for the time being.
      Hope this helps!

    • @c4veman
      @c4veman 2 роки тому

      @@cen7ury It did! I’m just a bit conflicted now because of people on the miata forum suggesting replacing it as an indicator it’s going bad

    • @cen7ury
      @cen7ury 2 роки тому +1

      @@c4veman Honestly, it's such an easy thing to replace, even on the side of the road, that I would suggest ordering yourself a replacement at a good price (from Rock Auto or similar) and just keep it and a simple tool kit in the trunk for when it eventually goes bad. That way you've got peace of mind without having to replace a working part to get it. Best of both worlds, imho.
