  • A Grade 2 listed Georgian farmhouse - defaced by moronic damp wallies. There isnt even any damp - rising, penetrating or any other type - the place is bone dry.

When you have a building that has lime mortar and plaster inside the structure and onto it's walls this should be correctly doing the job that it's supposed to do, namely to allow
any damp to escape through the lime but thanks to the use of non porous paints, plaster and cement being used on an old structure this has sealed in the damp which then has
to find another way out of the building
What I really cannot understand is why people think that when you make an injection hole and inject the damp proofing sludge that this material will soak through the solid brick
in order to make a solid line of damp course. I remember seeing another job where they drilled the holes and then inserted a tube of spongy material which could be withdrawn
when it was saturated and re-inserted after being squeezed out.
Why can't these companies be charged with fraud as they are so obviously pulling the wool over the clients eyes, they should certainly be reimbursing the people they have defrauded,
they are making false claims about their products and the local councils or the trading standards folks should questioning these companies methods, after all, haven't many, if not all
the snake-oil sales people stopped trading due to their false and laughable claims.

Have you ever taken the wally damp men to court? It’s crazy they can do things like this to a listing building whilst genuine repairs and alterations require consultation with the heritage.

Not yet - they just run away and shut companies - no point taking penniless shysters to court - costs too much money. Best to hold them up to the public and show what a bunch of fraudulent characters they are - educating the public is the best way to deal with them in our view.

Compared to a lot of crimes against historic builds I have seen, this thankfully looks to be relatively minor, as the holes cannot be seen unless you get very close. It could have been worse, they could have peppered the walls with holland/Schrijver/knappen tubes!
Around my area a significant number of formally beautiful Edwardian houses haven been obliterated by Pebbledash, bay window removal, replacing slate with concrete tiles and inappropriate plastic windows :(

If the internal walls can’t breathe and trap moisture due to the wrong plaster and paint being used could the moisture not escape through the external walls ?
Just trying to figure out how moisture and condensation escapes depending on the environment as I’m having similar problems in my (220 year old) house.

A disgrace to a beautiful historic building. Why can't these companies be shut down? I'm a sub. Just don't understand the situation in GB.

Question; When (if ever) is an injection damp-course appropriate? I ended up getting one installed in my first property (victorian mid terrace), but after watching your highly informative videos I am beginning to question whether it was necessary at all.

Never - they never worked and never will. Waste of money. Damage the wall. Always mis-diagnosed, and always simple solutions if there are actually any damp issues. Most are just condensation...
