The final part of the two-letter, single-syllable trilogy, UP was produced by Peter (and mixed by Tchad Blake and Stephen Hague). Hundreds and hundreds of hours of recordings were made, ultimately being slimmed down to the final ten tracks.
UP soon reveals itself to be another deeply personal statement, with birth and death being near-constant themes. Mostly recorded at Real World (although some initial recordings were made in Senegal, France and on a boat on the Amazon), the album sees contributions from the likes of Peter Green, Danny Thompson, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Daniel Lanois, the Black Dyke Band, Peter’s daughter Melanie and the late, great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Your music never ceases to make me cry, Peter. I love this song so much. I wish i could give back all you've helped me through. But for now, thank you. You've helped me so much. Nothing has come close to your music for me. I know you don't know me and I don't know you, but your music touches such intimate parts in me. You give me strength where I never had it before. I had this love, the love of my life... young dramatic inexperienced totally unstable, those were good bitter years, it's been a decade since we broke up... but I always told her that this was going to be our children's lullaby when in my arms.
Those kids were not meant to be, neither was our love in the long run, we're both happy our own separate ways... but this is still and forever will be the lullaby for my children that never came.

This song is about death, not birth.
@@AdamFloro birth and death are tangled together. I know he wrote it about someone's death, but all those foetuses and sperm in the video, ovum, swirling and falling, its like lost potential, maybe miscarriage, stillbirth, infertility. Why did he use that imagery?
