I have one of the new SAS SE's and I have a CE-24 semi hollow like you. The SAS is a solid heavy guitar. I also have a Silver Sky SE and a Zack Myers SE, so I am a bit of a PRS fanboy.. They are all beautiful guitars and that's important to me - I consider them works of art. As for the sounds, I like them all for different reasons. And tweaking the amp can make them sound very similar or very different. I think I like the neck on the CE-24 the best, followed by the Silver Sky. But it all comes down to personal preference. If a guitar makes you want to play more, then its a keeper.
Agreed completely Dave! Thanks for taking the time, sounds like you have quite the collection and they are def works of art. Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
My SE SAS comes close to my Les Paul for weight at 9.5lbs, but that's ash for you. I once had a Norlin Gibson Les Paul at more like 13lbs that was nuts.
I love your videos because you are detailed and precise and I like the comedy. I might also be neurotic about guitars. Heh. Anyway, I could tell the difference between the tones, but the less expensive guitars are more my speed. If I had reason to need a more expensive guitar, the 10K one would win this comparison hands down. It just has more "body" to it, it's more articulate, has a more attractive voice, if that makes any sense. I'm still undecided about the SE Swamp Ash Special even though I love, love, love Paul Reed Smith guitars. They do vary from guitar to guitar, and I think I have to play a couple to see what I think of each of them. And I'm still wondering what the maple neck feels like because the maple neck and the rosewood neck on the Silver Sky is weirdly like night and day. I still haven't figured that out. Thank you for your review of the SAS. Love it.
My pleasure dude! Thank you for taking the time. These are the types of comments that i read to myself when I'm editing for 30 hours straight. Cheers, my friend! Lmk what you end up going for!
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist No, but I see you've done a couple of PRS SE ones that I have to watch yet! Thank you! You give us a lot of detail which is really helpful if we can't try a model right away but want to know how it feels to play. Thumbs up!
My core 594 is definitely one of the nicest instrument I've ever picked up! But honestly every time I grab an SE at Guitar Center, I always just wanna take it home.
I'm still waiting on my PRS Se swamp ash guitar & the same color from Sweetwater 🎸 May, I ask. Are you going to keep/change the humpbuckers pickup's or keep as Is??? I enjoy this video & keep doing You! Thanks For Sharing 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Nothing wrong with checking the pickup height. I did before this demo, they're all damn close! Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness
I have CE24 Semi hollow and use it all night with my cover band. We play rock, pop and country and we play about 45 songs per night and it holds up best for me. I have an SE SAS on back order.
I really liked the swamp ash. I've always wanted one. Ross from collective soul played one and I've always wanted one. Yes the SE version not the same but I can't find a core local and I'm not dropping 3k or more without playing it first. The SE....I can take back to guitar center if I don't like
And also, which is flatter and closer to the flatness/depth of an Ibanez Wizard neck? I can't seem to find any explanation on the PRS site on the differences. Thought you'd know since you own both types of the neck. Caliper? BTW, I own both those. And I'm using the semi hollow more. It's more comfortable and easier. The Swamp Ash is like a brick. Not much difference to average Joe. But with rotator cuff injury it's literally a pain.
Interesting demo. I liked the CE24 semi-hollow pickups the best overall. There didn’t seem to be a big difference between the three guitars when distorted, although I did detect a bit more string definition in the swamp ash pickups.
It is certainly a lot more subtle than you'd think, right? I think the ce24 is probably my favorite, too. Thank you so much for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness if you haven't already 🤘😜🤘

"Angry and shouty"???... hey, that's half the reason I subscribed to your channel, ha! It's fun and I dig it! Also, I got the SE Swamp Ash and SE CE24 recently. I've had plenty of PRS in my day, from SE to S2 to a Core... and I've gotta say, those two new bolt-on models are killer. And with the current 20% off sale til the end of December... you'd be downright silly to NOT get one of them. So stay angry and shouty, my friend! You're doing good work!
What yelling? lol and dots are boring, BIRDS ARE AWESOME!!! In my opinion, even though I’m a Les Paul guy, I think PRS makes the best guitars. They took the designs of both Fenders & Gibsons, kinda combined them, & got rid of the design flaws of the originals in the process. I’ve owned 5 PRS’s, both American & SE, & they were all great, but didn’t care much for the pickups in the SE’s
Must be why I am drawn to the swamp ash. My priority is clean tones. BTW what do you think is the best sub $1500 guitar for a wide range of clean tones? :)
I'd look used. It depends week by week because it's all what you can score for that price. For 1500 I'd hope I could score a 2500 guitar. I've gotten multiple custom 22s for that price. High end American strats. You can even find les paul classics and traditional at that price. It's a very powerful price range so it has a lot to do with preference
I for one love the shouty passion of your video's. I gor a SE custom 24 with the Paul's switching system and love it. If I could choose 1 of those 3? Yes the custom 24 has the sweet "vintage" PAF trype of tones to my ears, but I love the semi hollow. Feels like a good all round guitar ;)
I think the 10k guitar definitely sounded better but not so much that it would convince me that I needed it. The new swamp ash for me, was a close contender with the warm kind of lows that it had. If I had to choose between the CE and swamp ash I'd go for the swamp ash.
They all sounded fantastic...There were a few times they all sounded extremely similar, others very distinct differences. I love PRS's, I enjoy every one I have! Which one would I choose? Well all 3 of course!! :-) Great Video!
I'm a Les Paul guy but own 4 PRS's. Two core & 2 se's. The pickups do sound crappy to me, but i do love the sound of that Swamp ash special! That was a killer video..mucho time put in by you! Love you're channel..I'm a loud mf'er as well. BTW..that original PRS you've got is special..
Thanks man, welcome back! I'm putting a ton of time into it. What made you unsubscribe and then subscribe again? Would love to know so I can keep working out the kinks
Wish I could play all dem Gheee tars lol! I will get another guitar soon and the darn PRS Guitars keep gettin all up in my grill lol! WTF! You Rock Brih!
Loved the review and the shouting! LOL. And I liked the SE. The CE sounded a little mellow to me and I'm definitely not worth a $10000 guitar. Now I think you should send me the SE. You have too many guitars 😁😁😁
I have a PRS SE Custom 22 semi-hollow that I love. But it took me awhile to bond with it. I also swapped out the stock pickups for some Suhr Thornbuckers. It also took me awhile to find the right combination of pedals to get the sound I was looking to get that I was hearing in my head. Now it’s my favorite guitar that I own. The fretboard and neck are far superior to my Fenders. And I also have a PRS SE SAS on order.
You'll have to lmk what you think of the SAS when you get it. The only thing holding the SAS back are the pickups which is why I'm changing them to dimarzios and gonna give it another demo with badass pups. The neck on the SAS is growing on me. I also am 100% with you on the semi hollow, slow to warm up but it's amazing
I prefer bolt on necks. I like set neck guitars- I own a few- but I believe bolt on necks make more sense, sound great and even look better, yeah, they look better. Thank you Leo Fender. You’re a legend and genius.
Your review makes sense, they are definitely lower output pickups and i dont play metal or anything heavy, probably why i love them. I play country and blues. I got a deluxe reverb i that i built, it sounds amazing through that, but my gibson amp, the sas is alittle bright. So it does depend on what amp you put them thru and what you play.
100% I feel the same way about the dragon pickups. Sound GREAT clean but don't do well with distortion. I do love the guitar and I'm so glad u dig it brother. Thanks for watching
I don’t think you’re “shouting.” It’s just passion, and it’s one of the most attractive aspects of your personality. As for the guitars, I’ll say GENERALLY speaking, tell your wifey I like the bolt on she bought you the best, and if she decides to buy me one, I will fully appreciate it! 😜
loving my new SAS; at $900 ($670 sale) its a versatile and great workman guitar. i don't see a justification to jump to a $2.5 or 10k option. good video thanks!
It's an absolutely amazing guitar and I love mine. I actually just put new pickups in it and the thing is wild! I haven't played a better playing guitar for the money. Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
yep subscribed, thanks. what pickups would you recommend replacing them with? @@TheNeuroticGuitarist i like clean tones and play a lot of neck, using the bridge for bite and high gain solos generally..
I own two PRS (1997 Custom 24 and 2000 Hollowbody II) and am among those who have never bonded with them - but they sure are purty! BTW - glad the killjoy left the party! KEEP ROCKIN BENNY!!!!
Hard not to love the OG - "Ghost Eyes" is awesome looking and sounding. I think the CE-24 was my favorite of the other two but the Swamp Ash looked and sounded great and unique. I'll take one of each, please :). Dollar for Dollar I'd say the CE-24 - tell your wife she has good taste @@TheNeuroticGuitarist
I bought a Custom 24 SE recently. Just didn't care for the pickups. Seemed very harsh and brittle to me. I just couldn't get them to warm up to my liking. Put some Dimarzio PAFs in it. Now it sounds as good as it feels.
@TheNeuroticGuitarist Solid decision. I really did give the SE pups a good try, though. I played that guitar for 4 months with the stock pups till I cried uncle. I watched a lot of reviews to see if anybody had suggestions, but it definitely seems to be a love it or hate it situation. I was disappointed and this is my first PRS. I freaking love the guitar. New pups and a setup make it a very inspiring instrument.
Ive got an S2 594 to see what PRS was all about and I can’t put it down. The S2’s are really under appreciated imo. The beveled edge is so much more comfortable than the carved top on the cores. I was not a big fan of the import pickups, but I agree, they sure are great for cleaner tones !
I love them for the cleans but the chug chug doesn't work for me for the heavy stuff. I'm curious how it will sound if I change the pickups!!! That might be happening next
The old prs se pickups are not very good but 2019 and up are great the 2023 ones in the swamp ash special are fantastic. There closer to the construction of the core , brass baseplates and less winds then the old ones. Mixed with the single coil very inspiring to me. It sounds amazing on recordings
Isnt it strange how different a guitar sounded when you play it to when when ypu hear the ply back.... And i love your energy benney it helps me anp up...stay ypung feeling as ling as ypu can ..we may be the same age or so but a motorcycle accident in 08 took out alot of my yelling for fun shall we say Ive gotten better nkt yelling anymore except for fun...and odly enough like the California girls with crystal shops say....talking posotive helps We called it fake it till you make it wich aplies to my guitar journey...ypur a legend benny or gna be .mark my words
For the clean tones I think that overall they sounded different more than one sounded better, though for a few positions one guitar or other sounded better, with overdrive though I liked the CE the best, it sounded the most balanced to my ear, the C24 was a close second, but sounded a bit fizzy for my tastes.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I think that overall the CE 24 was the one I liked best for my tastes, but I can see how each of the three would be best for something or for someone's taste. It's still got the high end, clarity, and articulation that I think of as PRS signatures, but it's a bit more mellow than the other two.
I also felt like there was a bit more low end on the Custom 24 than I prefer, come to think of it, but I'm sure that amp settings could tame that a bit, either way the point still stands that for my tastes the CE 24 had the most balanced frequency response
There all unique in there own way I feel like if you love the neck and it’s good playin guitar the pickups can be swapped out to get that tone your lookin for like you said there is a sound for every person and different guitars and pickup’s sound different with different amps and cabs but I like to play the guitar and if it feels amazing and set up right you can never go wrong pickups can always be changed but the feel of the guitar is what has me sold
Angry & shouty ?!? HELL YEA !!! Maybe you could have a tea party with all your stuffed animals & the family cat, then you would get more subscribers ! HA! HA! HA! HA! Don't change a thing! YOU ROCK ! KEEP TOKIN' BRO !!!!
I have ordered my Swamp Ash Special, it is a week away, love my SE's, as i believe they are the best value for money atm. Dont get the haters, if not for you, why bitch about it, just move on
@TheNeuroticGuitarist I have subbed a while ago now. Really enjoy your content, and am really looking forward to getting my SAS. How did you find it straight off the bat???
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist it’s a pretty even split between the ce and the custom 24 for distorted tones. Never been the biggest fan of distorted prs pickups, I prefer dimarzios for distorted
As I tied off for this pony ride about to inject, I found distinctive tone between the three guitars. They are different. Must go to bed now. Keep your in mind that not all guitars are built nor sound the same way.
I had an Annapolis Standard solid mahogany which was 1 of 6 special ordered for the Dallas guitar show. Pearl white, 5 way rotary. I'll never forget that guitar. I got really used to the rotary. Now I've got a Santana with push-pull pots so I'm still happy 😊 The original 24 sounds the best in your demo
I love the birds...my mom said shed be a bird when she passed ..after she did we'd see birds on big days ...i gotta try one it is a true modern guitar thats not pointy or 20 string 8 in wide fretboard s makes me sick lol jk
For reference I also grew up with a theatre background and everyone around me was super noisy (like me) and also super friendly (again, like myself) the word 'obnoxious' is being used out of context Benny, you're not obnoxious you're effervescent....theres a huge difference, I also agree that bolt on necks are totally awesome and have a certain feel to them that appeals to my ear and hand.
I had a custom 22 10 top I bought in 1999. It was my dream guitar that I thought I would hand down to my kids…..and I SOLD IT TO PAY MY GIRLFRIENDS RENT WHO KICKED ME OUT A WEEK LATER!!! UGHHHHH
was watching this video and it brought me back. Never bought another PRS again. I sat in guitar center and literally cried. But wait it gets worse! 2 days later I got some extra money and drove back to the store to buy it back…it’s was gone bro. I didn’t play guitar for 5 years after that. Still don’t really play anymore. It hurts even writing this but I guess it’s therapeutic.
The pickups alone on these SE models have made me pass on the PRS. Good guitars but in my opinion, at the US made end only. It would be better if they just included Duncans or Fishmans instead, and left their higher end models with the in house pick-ups.
I think this is true for a lot of companies. I played a few epiphones and was very underwhelmed but then got a 59 ri sent to me for review with US burstbucker pickups and it just destroys. I put dimarzio deactivators with a preamp in the SAS and it rules. So really, you spend the money on the SAS and throw your favorite pups in and will certainly not be bummed out. It plays incredible
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist So, I have a confession. I just purchased a PRS Hollowbody SE II in Blue, that has these pickups, the older non piezo model. The 85/15s sound so much different in a hollow or semi Hollowbody. Try it out. It's like they were made for this and just mismatched with their solid body models.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I listened to the madness again and there is just no doubt that the PRS is hands down the best! The tone is beautiful and I would just have to find a way to pay for it, But hey, the custom sounded good and even the swamp ash tones were good and it was a beautiful guitar and would be very nice for a lot of folks! This really was a good guitar story. Glad I watched it again! I haven't had much sleep either so I might sound like a 5 year old right now😂
Man you have some awesome PRSi. The SE SAS is a great guitar. In the demo there's not a lot of difference in tones for my old ears, but than probably comes down to YTs audio compression and my age. Your last Metallica demo sounded great on all the guitars. Generally I still prefer the more articulate CE's Core 85/15 pickups on clean over the "S" versions but I use light gain and the SE SAS HBs do really well with light gain in my little Quilter Superblock UK. The awesome AS-01 with the HBs sounds great on clean. Also, this SE SAS neck is really fast for me, love this particular satin finish.

I love my SAS SE. it’s the most comfortable guitar I own and with the PRS sale you can get it for under $700
Rock on! Thanks for watching and please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
Love it.

Does the special come in a American Version now ?
It originally came as an American version, it's the SE version that's new
My core 594 is definitely one of the nicest instrument I've ever picked up! But honestly every time I grab an SE at Guitar Center, I always just wanna take it home.
There is certainly a difference but there's enough value in the se that it is exactly that, tempting.

Ok, don't shoot me. Could it be pickup height adjustment ? Small details sometimes make a big difference. Great demo !!

I have CE24 Semi hollow and use it all night with my cover band. We play rock, pop and country and we play about 45 songs per night and it holds up best for me.
I have an SE SAS on back order.
Rock on Dave! Which one did u dig the most in the demo?
I really liked the swamp ash. I've always wanted one. Ross from collective soul played one and I've always wanted one. Yes the SE version not the same but I can't find a core local and I'm not dropping 3k or more without playing it first. The SE....I can take back to guitar center if I don't like
What's the difference between wide thin and pattern thin?
That's a great question, not sure the dimension difference off the top of my head. I'll check into the exact differences

And with the current 20% off sale til the end of December... you'd be downright silly to NOT get one of them.
So stay angry and shouty, my friend! You're doing good work!
ROCK ON (IN LOUDEST SHOUT)!!!
This is about as right on as it gets. I very much appreciate this comment. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
I'm getting PRS birds fretboard tattoo on my forearm
But the SE guitars are amazing too, especially if you can’t afford a 5 thousand dollar American model
The ce24 is def the best all around but that custom in position 1 or 5 rules all for me! Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
I think the 10k guitar definitely sounded better but not so much that it would convince me that I needed it. The new swamp ash for me, was a close contender with the warm kind of lows that it had. If I had to choose between the CE and swamp ash I'd go for the swamp ash.
Rock on Chelsea, thanks for taking the time! Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
They all sounded fantastic...There were a few times they all sounded extremely similar, others very distinct differences. I love PRS's, I enjoy every one I have! Which one would I choose? Well all 3 of course!! :-) Great Video!
Me too! Although I tend to record rhythms with the lead pickup and the custom 24 wins on that!

Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
Haha she will tell you she's not even thinking about guitars 😜 I ruined that one

I bought a Custom 24 SE recently.
Just didn't care for the pickups. Seemed very harsh and brittle to me. I just couldn't get them to warm up to my liking.
Put some Dimarzio PAFs in it. Now it sounds as good as it feels.
Yeah man, I'm not a fan of the se pickups either, I really like how it looks and plays way better. I have dimarzio x2ns on their way
@TheNeuroticGuitarist Solid decision.
That might be happening next
angry and shouty? stiffs. lol fuggem. Fantastic demo, keep crushin it Benny!
Thanks so much Dustin, I appreciate you watching!
The old prs se pickups are not very good but 2019 and up are great the 2023 ones in the swamp ash special are fantastic. There closer to the construction of the core , brass baseplates and less winds then the old ones. Mixed with the single coil very inspiring to me. It sounds amazing on recordings
The as-01 is by far the best pickup on the SAS.

Thanks so much Josh, I've been faking it until I make it for years!
For the clean tones I think that overall they sounded different more than one sounded better, though for a few positions one guitar or other sounded better, with overdrive though I liked the CE the best, it sounded the most balanced to my ear, the C24 was a close second, but sounded a bit fizzy for my tastes.
It can be fizzy for sure, the irony is that position 1 and 5 are the best on the custom24, but the ce24 is the 100% the most balanced
"As you notice I have over 40" As a new viewer, up until that moment I thought your sitting in an alcove of presumably your store, not your storage.

Bro!!!! 😬
was watching this video and it brought me back.
