Look your radio repair videos are very good in contents. I enjoy your style. Please continue educating me. Tour wisdom is priceless. I. A senior t.v., radio repairman... Paul.
I wish I had even 1% of your knowledge! I have a ham radio on the bench and it steadfastly refuses to give any audio. It tripped my inverter and had to repair that I am off grid here . It gives me a belt every now and then to let me know who's boss. Thanks for the video and time as always.
'm always amazed at your knowledge of electronic theory. As exclusively a cabinet restorer, I'll never get past a layman's level. Beautiful set and it sounds great. By the way, I too am often surprised at how a person will do so much resto work, but then leave out the simple, easy details that really make it look great. Those are so important.
At 9:34 where the static starts, sound like a power plant worker walking into a nuclear reactor with an old style Geiger counter. It's always a treat to watch your videos, thank you.
At the start of watching Ron. I have confidence he will diagnose the problem quickly. It's a piece of cake for him to rewind an open coil, or repair any catastrophic component. Thanks, again for sharing your knowledge, Ron. Say hi to the kitty.........
Hi Ron your tech friend Dave here was amazing watching you repair that radio considering the mistakes that somebody made would take a professional like you to find the mistakes you got it working very nice I got one just like it can't wait to see your next video I like your style may God bless you keep you safe always thank you
3 outfit changes! The first white dress was absolutely beautiful. You were all dolled up that day! The stripe dress was nice as well but white really shows off your beauty. I don't know who John is but I envy him knowing such a beautiful girl as you.
I have a couple old radios one is a Philco 38-12 and the other is a 1946 Learadio Model 561 they are in very good condition. But need work. One has an AC humm and the other Is dead. I would love to have you go through them for me. I have been watching you for many years now and I know your work. You are the best I've ever seen. I also have a vintage Cobra 142 gtl I would love to see what you could do as far as modifications. Thank you for sharing your video's with us I really enjoy watching. God Bless. Ben.
Hello my friend? First thing i want to say is Marry Christmas to you and yours! I hope and pray you have a beautiful holiday! I hope and pray you get to spend time with someone you love and can share your job together. Next I want to let you know I'm 150% proud of who you are and how you present yourself. God Bless your heart from my family in the Philippine to you!!!
I hope you are well and have a very happy year Ron. It's been a while so I've got some catching up of your videos to do... Nice radio, for its age not a bad sound after you put it right. Ps. I hope your cute kitty is well as well. :)
Whoever had that radio before Glasslinger really mucked it up! They probably didn't even have a schematic for it. It would be a treasure for anyone to have in their living room now!
What a clever person you are would love 1% of your skill. I have a Pilot u650 Radio (1937) I managed to revive with the help of a gentleman Andy Davies by the sea and when I heard the first crackle it was like bringing someone not a thing back to life. Sorry I lost track what I was talking about AGE AGE arghhh. Anyway it’s like you said no more short wave etc but a valve is so soothing I fired it up last night dead. So Glasslinger I may be needing your help if you don’t mind, love the vids. Go safe.
In the guitar amp world they say "this was worked on by a guy with a soldering iron in one hand and a crack pipe in the other" That species of "tech" is plentiful when music is being played. It keeps me working.
Glassslinger do you still work on radios as far as someone sending it to you? I have a 1952 Zenith Symphomaile. It looks exactly like the Y83Z model. The model number Is unreadable on mine. Something odd is in the tuneing. Sometimes it will pick up FM but never AM. and sometimes the only way it will work at all is when I have it setting by another radio and somehow it tunes in with it and by using the tuneing dial on the other radio you can go up and down the dial and the Zenith will pick up the signal. Any knowledge on this problem be very appreciated.
This video caused the flashback of local stations giving away promotional antique radios that would only tune to their station I wonder if this could be one of those promotional radios that AM stations gave away in the sixties and seventies?
Hello Miss, I do injoy what you do in every video, And i do care for what you stand for! I would NEVER disrespect who you are in life! That is why i ask for you to email me so i could talk to you. So Always hold your head high and be very proud of who you are! God Bless your heart miss.
I love old radios set, i eas a technician during 35 years in Cuba, i was able to fix all those old radios from the USA, Japan, China and other countries .I was able to fix tv sets from the USA all until the last years before Castro got the power (1959).
Short wave isn't dead -yet.I am working at the Greenville,NC Marti SW transmitter plant. At 1000UTC,6:00am local 3 transmitters will be broadcasting to Cuba in Spanish. Some areas of the world internet is not available. This plant also broadcasts VOA programs. The site can broadcast to anywhere in the world.Opened in 1962. Has 38 antennas and 9 transmitters-2 500Kw, 6 250Kw.
Unfortunately, I live right in the middle of Houston Tx, a HUGE city! The bands are nothing but horrible noise from all the interference generated by the millions of noise generating devices in the area. Background noise runs about 100 uV. A friend who lives in a small town in the country has a background noise about 1 uV!
@@glasslinger Yes--Its the NOISE on the MW-SW bands from various kinds of switching power supplies and light ballasts.Older supplies and ballasts linear don't have those harmonic problems.
Always enjoy the videos but really would like to have that shortwave side working for the sake of authenticity. Of course I’m not the one that had to tackle that intensive task! LOL!
How about doing a video of how the Watt meter/electronic fuse was made and the circuit diagram so that we who have similar interests can make one for ourselves, please? I would be VERY interested in making myself one for use with the radios I restore. I have restored an AC-powered radio and I have two more to do for myself, the first one kept popping the mains breaker when I switched it on and there was all hell to pay with putting the house in darkness!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on making the Watt meter/electronic fuse with the circuit diagram, if for no other reason than to save my life from my family killing me every time I pop the mains AC breaker when I am working on these old radios!!!! Regards, Kay.
See my video list for the youtube video on the electronic fuse. Sounds like you need one! I had the same problem and the electonic fuse has saved the house power a LOT of times!
@@glasslinger HA HA, I almost got booted out of the house after I popped the breaker for the third time!! I will go back and look, I have recently subscribed to your channel and found what you do so VERY interesting and so very close to what I do as my hobby to keep me sane after retirement. Please keep doing what you are doing..... It makes great and very interesting watching....! Kay.
Though a repeat of an earlier comment....I've been considering on building a small multi channel transmitter for both short and broadcast bands for around the house. Something that will offer me 4-6 channels using old internet connected cell phones for inputs...giving the illusion of something to tune to on my collection of antiques....Any thoughts Ron?
I think it will be more complicated than you first think. I have had the same basic idea but using a small embedded computer to store the sound files and handle the audio channel feeds to the transmitter. It will certainly be a challenging design project!
Hi there! your radio/TV videos are great but I really hope you get back to your glass slinging work! A video on improvised tools. A video on basic glass technique. Any and all is GREAT! Thanks for keeping the channel alive
Good Job Ron! but how do you like your new Keysight scope? I purchased the same one with Generator built in, last year, still use the Tek 2465B and the Keysight together to get used to all the features and functions🤟
The problem with soldering that fuse in place is that if you sell the radio the new owner will have a time figuring out what's wrong when the fuse blows and he can't find it! (hidden by heat shrink). Would be more obvious if you installed a fuse holder.
Was adding the trimmer to the tuning capacitor to change the band the radio is good for? Otherwise why add it? What quality are the replacement capacitors? There is a lot of garbage knockoffs out there. When changing line cords, do you think it best to use polarized plugs these days to be sure the hot is switched? (especially for All American Fives with no power transformers and possibly hot chassis).
Hello? I have 2 questions, First what would you rather work on tube type or solid state? Years ago i use to be in to CB radios hot and heavy, I talked all over the world on just a 12 meter band CH radio BUT i always had a linear amplifier hooked in line And always 500W or bigger And the tube type was much clearer this the solid state people told me..... Next question can just a coil and a magnet make AC power? I really enjoy all your video and I'm very impressed with your knowledge And work!! God Bless you miss.
Yes, I don't really understand those who twist component leads around, so that removing and replacing components is made difficult. I was trained to fit components in a way that made removal easy, since they will stay in place if soldered properly.
Hey Ron, your probably know already, and I regret to inform you if you don't, but your website is offline. I wonder if you have moved to another domain.

Great troubleshooting on this radio Ron. Fun watching the real master at work!
I just love the look of these old devices. Takes a true craftsman to repair these.

Its better to / half a fuse some how than not although the customer /owner may just junk it if fuse fails ! BUT it dose protect from fire risk
