      @@resipsaloquitur13 Ron cuts right to the chase for sure, but extra huge respect to Ron for making vacuum tubes. You can learn from Carlson, but to be honest I also use his videos to put me to sleep. I actually am a Patreon member of Carlson, the sleep alone is worth it. The fact that I learn electronic stuff is an added plus. I also like Ron's huge inventory of parts, he's got quite the museum going. The cat fart blame game is also entertaining. One thing they have in common, they both make it look a lot easier than it is.

You'll notice most clocks are direct current these days (even if a/c they have a d/c circuit. Those thingys could get warn out, it happened to me where I had particularly poor a/c service so it glitched alot.

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  День тому +1

      The getters are not the problem. It is the RF induction heater to flash them. For getters, buy a bunch of old TV tubes off ebay. Cheapest since you will be breaking them apart. Do not break the tube open until you are immediately going to put the getter on your homemade tube to seal off and get under vacuum. Exposed to air, you have about 5 minutes until the getter is destroyed.

    • @Farben-X
      @Farben-X 17 годин тому

      @glasslinger thanks, so the barium in the getter is stored in a metallic form even before flashing right? Witch are the tube most probable to have an unflashed getter?

    • @glasslinger

      @@Farben-X I find the color set regulator tubes like the 6BK4 and the like, and the high voltage rectifiers like the 1B3. Large sweep tubes also have plenty of getter remaining. Don't pay much for the old tubes. They are worth about 25 cents each.

When I moved down here from the north I thought it was extremely hot here, but after about 4-5 years I got pretty used to it. Then l had to live in Houston (where Ron lives) for a while. Thank you very much for making such meaningful videos. They are very inspiring for me((:
    I'm an ex-electrician and started my childhood hobby of restoring old tube radios about two years ago.
    I find it enchanting that these treasures are still running like this after so many years.
    yesterday I finished a Saba Meesrburg w2((:
    It's quite remarkable how many channels you can get in with this level of selectivity.
    I thought I would just write to you from Germany near Stuttgart.
    Please make a lot more videos about it, I would be very happy((:
    Greetings from Germany.😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

    I have a stupid Question.. was it me or was the Clock second hand going the wrong direction? Just wondering :)

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  3 місяці тому +3

      The clock mechanism is a very early type that will run either direction. I put it backwards in the video to see if anyone would notice!

      @@glasslinger I herd you saying that it worked both directions. I was just step by step, When I entered into Electronics repair was in the mid 80's that kind of electronics were still around but dying fast. Thank you for your response :)

      @@glasslinger sounds like my BSA Bantam D1 1951 I set the timing wrong and the engine ran backwards........( England )

      @@davids8449 Amazing! I had no idea that would work! Seems like the exhaust stroke would happen before the intake stroke. I know a two stroke will run either way but a four stroke is more complicated.

    29:33 I AGREE! Way to complicated which is why I use my Heathkit circa 1949 for signal generation. Thanks for the video!

    Leak detector? Low buck? ..Run your UHV, then slowly bring helium (lecture tank) tiny nozzle .. near the suspected leak/hole & watch your gauge.

    This clock reminds me of one my uncle Fred had at the cottage. It was a 1960 Spartus backwards bar clock with a little sign on a chain that you flipped over saying Bar Is Open or Bar Is Closed. The second sweep hand ran backwards, and the clock face numbers were in reverse order. 🙃
