Thanks so much for your help with this. I've been struggling for a week trying to get it to connect and couldn't figure it out. It didn't work at first, but I read comments and saw the tip about activating the SMB1 features in Windows and it worked immediately. Thanks again!
Finally found your video and I really appreciate your help. I couldn't get the scan to file to work with other videos, but yours did it (I had to interpret for my Windows 7 operating system). Thanks so very much for your video!
Thank you Brian... They wanted to charge me a fortune to do this when they replaced and installed my printer if you could call it that and the only problem I had was that I had to go the troubleshoot problems _ Network and internet and fix the problems with sharing and my homegroup/workgroup had to be all changed to private and then perfect instant scan to folder. I am using a Ricoh MP C3004 so the address book input was slightly different but very simple just had three next tabs to put that info in. Thank you again saved me time and money.
glad you got your issue fixed. They too want to charge me a fortune and I can't figure it out. I posted a question in the comment, think you have any ideas?
This is a GREAT video. The only other thing is to check is to go to Control Panel-Programs-Turn Windows Features on or off and then turn on or tick SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support. If this is not ticked, the scan to folder will not work.
By me it's working now, not 100% in response to this video, but in response to the comments under this video. (Ricoh Aficio MP2000) I have not maked a new Windows account, because the only account was already Administrator with username and password. THE big problem that is was first not working in Win10, was to activate the SMB1 features in Windows (in Control Panel, Add/Remove/Programs, Turn Windows features on or off), check 3 boxes SMB1.0). Only that this checkboxes where not checked, was the reason I spent about 3 hours. But thanks for this video, but unfortunately that the SMB-problem is not in the video.
Thank you very much for your video . This was the only video that worked for me to get my ricoh copier working. I wish I did not have to have a password attached but I guess it is better this way. THANK YOU
Thanks I am using Ricoh MP2014D machine and company engineers also not able to solve the issue of server response error. I solved it by watching your video
Junior and Brian....I am using the Ricoh Aficio MP C2050. I have set up the folder on the Ricoh but the test page that I scanned in never makes it to my computer. I can print on the Ricoh all day. The screen displays the folder that I have set up for scans. After I scan the test page, the screen shows "processing" but it never makes it to the destination. I know that the video says that the Ricoh must have the correct firmware but if it is functioning correctly in all other aspects, I am wondering if there is another area that I can troubleshoot. What are your thoughts?
well a 2050 is still working with the SMB 1 Protocol. So yes you see the folder because when the sharing of the folder is checked that passes not trough the SMB protocol. Once you want to scan the SMB protocol kicks in and the file is not transferred. You could try to reactivate SMB1 on your windows 10 machine or you need a firmwareupdate to make it working. If i would be you i would simply switch to scan to mail. Hope it helps
Additional steps I had to do to: - go to Ricoh drivers official website, download and install the updated driver for your copier (I have MP C2003 and the right one is PCL 6 Driver) - press win+R, write optionalfeatures, press + on SMB 1.0/Cifs File Sharing Support, activate all the sub-folders
Yes good tutorial helped me thank you. I could not find where to change folder path in the web interface but have now resolved this. Also set authentication. Good work thanks again.
I did everything that was in the movie, but wasn't enough since my printer wouldn't see my network. I also did what I found on a microsoft forum thread about the fact that my Network ID button greyed out. Now it finnaly works!!
Thank you so much for your video, very helpful. Only thing I would add is to enable SMB 1.0 in Windows, when I did this finally everything started working (Ricoh MP 201 SPF).
The first portion was great and I followed right along and did great until you talked about logging into your Ricoh machine to set up network share and then I became hopelessly lost since you went somewhere, who knows where, to find a Ricoh printer. Mine is part of my network so how do I do what you did in my situation. In other words, how do I log into my Ricoh Aficio SP222 SF? Thanks.
You have to find the Static IP address of the Ricoh copier. Go the machine and hit the button User Tools / Counter (physical button), next on the screen hit System Settings > Interface Settings you will find the IP4 Address which is the static IP address. Go to your computer and enter the Static IP Address. The default username is admin and the password field leave blank.
hi brian, I used this setup to a windows 10 home edition laptop and it worked great!, thank you!! Now, I am changing PC'S and trying to connect the same Konica Minolta mf1690 printer/scanner to my new Alienware desktop. I added the user and shared the folder exactly as you have it in this tutorial. when I change the ip address on the printer to the new pc, user name and scans folder properties are identical. I keep getting SMB SERVER ERROR. if I switch ip's to the old laptop and scan the old laptop is still working great what am I missing? thanks for your response......harry
This was a wonderful video, but I couldn't get it to work with the actual scan. (Buttons worked, computer talked to copier, etc.) So I finally had a service call to my Ricoh technician and they updated the firmware. It was a long and involved process. It was not updating the driver to Windows 10, because I had already done that. Yes, it cost me $125, but if I had done it earlier, I would have spent less time trying to troubleshoot it.
At first it didn't work but I went back to the properties tab in the scans folder and everything was unchecked so I probably just exited before applying changes or something. My bad but it's fixed. Thanks for your help
Sorry it's taking me so long to reply. The short answer is no, I don't know why it won't let you add a new user. If you're logged in under the administrator account with full permissions to the machine, then you should have the ability to add and remove users in the address book. I would check and verify that there is only one admin account on your machine and make sure it has full permissions.
Is there a way to prompt for a PIN before scanning? I know HP scanners do this, and it really helps prevent unauthorized users and accidental scans to the wrong network folder. Thanks!!
I'm confused about this Brian. It's so sweet of you to make us a tutorial, but I just got a new computer and I am trying to switch it over and I think I'm screwing it up.
Any number of reasons. Check to make sure your copier's firmware is updated to the latest versions. Make sure your smb protocols are selected in add remove programs, turn windows features on or off. SMB v1 needs to be checked. Also make sure you dont have a firewall or antivirus blocking the port.
Brian, is there any workaround to simply get the printer to scan to a folder on a usb connected computer running windows 10. I'm not interested in full functionality, just bulk scanning to file.
well there is not much sense in doing that. it's possible but you need the twain driver for your printer. once you got that you need a software that gives the command to the printer to scan and there you have the issue. quality is very low when you scan like that. i would suggest to use scan to mail or folder or even scan to USB device if you got a port on the used device. but yey you can do it with the twain driver
This tutorial is great, but does this work if you don’t have admin rights on your computer? Unable to locate “Family and Other” on windows 10 version 1909
Thank you very much but I need you to help me with a problem that I have with the Ricoh Afisio MP3502 printer when I go to the main page and login I don't get the contact book as I can add it to be able to create an SMB Folder Please help me I don't know what to do?
Hello Brian and thank you so much of you tutorial, i did not creat the new user, i just creat a folder "scan" but i share my hdd, and too the folder, and i avtivate some option smb 1.0/cifs and direct smb, and i in the firewall i give autorisation of direct smb, and all it s work !!! i did it with tow pc in windows 10 with the same procedures and it s work. thank you a lot off i ll try your tutorial with email cause it s make crazy i try it to do it alone but not work, i ll follow your tutorial i home it s will be work too. i have one question, my ricoh mpc2003 i have a big latence between i order to print and when ricoh start printing, do you know why ? Thank you a gain
Hi there, Thanks for the video... I successfully connect the printer and laptop for scanning but it gives me "Connection has failed. Check settings and check Scanned File Status." error message... Please assist how do I fix it
Hi Brian, I have a Ricoh MP2851 running on Windows 10 Pro. I had the canner feature work for a long time. It was setup a little different than yours (static IP). Recently my printer stopped scanning to my folder. The printer says it doesn't see my computer... When I ping the printer in cmd, everything works though... I followed your instructions to create a folder and link it up. However, after following all the steps and trying to scan to the new folder, I receive the same error that the printer can't see the location and I am still stuck. Any advice?
Hello Brian.. thanks for the great video Can you help me how to download the stored file in Aficio MP C2500 to the pc using usb? for example: I scanned some papers and I want to download these papers to the pc using USB, I know that i can get them using network, under the document server. but I'm going to relocate the printer place, and there is no network port there.
The newer machines have an SD card slot and a USB slot on the Operation Panel for scanning to an external device. This option made it very simple to scan a document to a usb flash drive or and sd card. The MP C2500, however, does not have this capability. The only way around that, using a pc connected to the MFP via a usb cord, would be to utilize the TWAIN driver instead of the PCL or PostScript driver. You would also need some kind of scanning software that works with the Ricoh MFP to capture the scanned document from the machine and save it locally on the computer's hard drive. Hope this helps.
Hallo Brian,Well done n thank you for your tutorial although I have not yet managed due to "no connection" with typing mistake by settings! Try again ...
I needed to add that you should go into control panel, then add or remove programs, then turn windows features on or off, then check SMB v1 to allow for all copiers to scan to windows 10 shared folder.
Hi Brian, I am using an old Ricoh Aficio 1515 MF.. I have managed to download some drivers which means my laptop can print to it..but the scanner does not initiate towards the laptop..It looks like it wants you to scan to an email address (which I don't have as it is stand alone). I want to set up what you are doing but having difficulty finding the printers IP address to see if also has an address book that could be changed - do you know how that could be done?
On those models, I believe, there was scan to folder software that came with the machine. Ricoh no longer has support for scanning to windows 8 or windows 10 workstations for those models. Firmware updates for scanning to those versions of windows only came out for newer MFP models.
Hello, I do everything that is shown in the video and, in some cases, I do not scan. Scan on some PCs. All computers have Windows 10. I changed the access settings to networks and shared folders and it did not work. Do you have an idea? Thanks
check the systemlog and the DNS of the printer. if the DNS is wrong and the shared path to the folder is a hostname the machine can not resolve the hostname of the shared folder
Login user name and password must be set up on the windows 10 computer with admin rights. You then input the user name and password in the ricoh copier in folder authentication so the copier can access the windows 10 computer using those credentials.
If the software of the machine-printer is not up to date with windows 10 ....its hopeless trying to communicate with the pc...thats what i have learned after many many wasted ours....
I have an MP 5001 that worked perfectly in windows 7 but does not work now after the windows 10 upgrade?? Firmware was updated and I followed the instructions to a T? I'm out of ideas
Hey Brain, today i tried 3 hour for scan to Folder with my MP 3502 but i failed so i just want to know that is this model support scan to folder on windows 10 and windows server 2016, waiting for reply. Thanks
There have been a few people telling me that the 01 series machines from Ricoh will work with windows 10. They say that you have to have the latest firmware for the machine and you have to go into windows 10 programs and features, turn windows features on and select all the smb options. Never tried this myself but I'm still researching it.
when I log into the user interface of the printer and go to address book it is not responsive at all when I click on add user. Not sure why as I only have 3 other previous folders on other devices and in any case it does not allow me to change the other folders too. Any idea why?
Hello Brian, I am using an SP 310SFN Ricoh All-In-One, I am using this on Windows 7 & its connected to a network. I have been receiving Faxes from all over & want them to go directly to a folder or an e-mail, Pls HELP HELP me to sort that out, how do I go about it. I am also using the Web Image Monitor, But unable to get through. Awaiting your reply very soon. Pls, explain in detail how do I set it up.
first of all you nee working mailconfiguration on the device. that means you need to fill in the SMTP server, the port and if there is a authentification on your sever the login and PW of the authentification. once you did that you go to the fax settings and tell them to send any fax that is incoming to the user where you made the SMTP configuration.
Do you know if it is possible to do same things that you explain here in this video with the Ricoh 2551 in Windows 10 ? I've already try many configs but didnt work so far. I wanna just scan docs and send it to a specific folder in my pc ... I follow basicaly the same instructions you share in your video ... made the same configs but completely unsuccesfull until now. Can anyone help me ?
So far as I know, windows 10 has a setting in "Turn windows features on or off" and it allows for older versions of SMB scanning to work. Namely, SMB version 1. The Ricoh will still have to have the latest firmware, however, it still won't work unless you set the SMB protocol to allow for version 1. Go to add or remove programs in the control panel, then click on "Turn Windows features on or off" the scroll down to where it says SMB 1.0 CIFS File sharing support. If all the boxes are checked, it should allow for scanning to a folder on your windows 10 machine from an older ricoh.
Hi Brian I am Using RICOH Aficio MP C2500 Printer and I have windows 10 32bit I have setup everything but it is not scanning to a folder is not working Please help
This type of scanning to a share folder on works through a network connection. USB connections require third party scanning software and TWAIN drivers for scanning.
Awesome! I spend 4 hours with no result before I found your video! Many thanks from Germany!
5 years later and this is still a gem. Thank you for this well made video!
By far, one of the clearest tutorials I have seen. Thank you very much mate.
Thanks so much for your help with this. I've been struggling for a week trying to get it to connect and couldn't figure it out. It didn't work at first, but I read comments and saw the tip about activating the SMB1 features in Windows and it worked immediately. Thanks again!
Thank You!! This actually got the scanner working at the Dr. Office. I can't believe how hard Ricoh is to deal with!
Finally, after watching 20 videos, I found a useful one. You did a very good job. Thx
I changed my PC and I once again I had some issue with the scanner but this tutorial saved my life for the second time. Thanks dude !
awesome video Brian...only one I found that explained the full process! thank you!
Thank you, Brian! You cover your topic with a high level of clarity. Appreciated ...
Finally found your video and I really appreciate your help. I couldn't get the scan to file to work with other videos, but yours did it (I had to interpret for my Windows 7 operating system). Thanks so very much for your video!

It worked. Not at once, but after installing IMB 1.0 on W10 and the 40- or 56- bit encryption setting. Thanks a lot.
The ending part about using 40- or 56- bit encryption saved my butt thank you so much!
By me it's working now, not 100% in response to this video, but in response to the comments under this video.
(Ricoh Aficio MP2000)
I have not maked a new Windows account, because the only account was already Administrator with username and password.

But thanks for this video, but unfortunately that the SMB-problem is not in the video.
Thanks Brian. Good concise description covering all requirements to set it up.
Good reminder re 128 bit encryption
Thank you very much for your video . This was the only video that worked for me to get my ricoh copier working. I wish I did not have to have a password attached but I guess it is better this way. THANK YOU
I wish the guys who came to set mine up had this video! It took them hours to figure it out.
Thanks
I am using Ricoh MP2014D machine and company engineers also not able to solve the issue of server response error. I solved it by watching your video
well done as a ricoh system engineer i could not have done it better.
Junior and Brian....I am using the Ricoh Aficio MP C2050. I have set up the folder on the Ricoh but the test page that I scanned in never makes it to my computer. I can print on the Ricoh all day. great Guide, very concise and easy to follow, thanks man.
Updated the firmware and turned on SMB in Windows and everything works. Thanks for the great video.
Where did you update firm ware
I had a Ricoh service company do it. It is not available online.
Additional steps I had to do to:
- go to Ricoh drivers official website, download and install the updated driver for your copier (I have MP C2003 and the right one is PCL 6 Driver)
- press win+R, write optionalfeatures, press + on SMB 1.0/Cifs File Sharing Support, activate all the sub-folders
You my friend are a hero! took me 2 hours and saw this comment! Works now and thank you!
did all but no succes :( usin RICOH AFICIO MP 161 with win 10
It worked great on the MP C6502. The interface is a little different but is close enough to figure out. Thanks.
Great video, clear step-by-step instruction.
Just need to enable SMB1.0 in "Turn Windows features on or off". Now it's working. Thanks
Best instruction! Greetings from Germany.
Great tutorial! Documented and bookmarked!
thank you so mush.I try to do this a lot of time but when i see your video it make me easier. 100*thanks
Yes good tutorial helped me thank you. I could not find where to change folder path in the web interface but have now resolved this. Also set authentication. Good work thanks again.
Thank you so much. Worked first time!
Thank you, I was going crazy with this, the encryption part did the trick.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!! This has been the only thing to help me after hours of steps and troubleshooting.
Thank you!
You're very welcome. Glad I could help.
I did everything that was in the movie, but wasn't enough since my printer wouldn't see my network. I also did what I found on a microsoft forum thread about the fact that my Network ID button greyed out. Now it finnaly works!!

Worked perfectly on Ricoh Aficio MP 5001. Many thanks :)
You made my day, thank you very much Brain.
Thank you! The file encryption is all I needed!
Worked to perfection. Thank you kind sir!
Thanks for the video really helpful but still can't find the documents in the folder. Have you any ideas what possibly i do wrong?
Thank you so much for your video, very helpful. Only thing I would add is to enable SMB 1.0 in Windows, when I did this finally everything started working (Ricoh MP 201 SPF).
Best video ever!
thank you Brian! You explain things very well. Customer is wanting to scan to a folder on the server. Have you done that before?
Great Video. Needs much more appreciation.
Thumbs Up!
Thanks!!
I learned and successfully installed it on win11
Excellent tutorial - Thank you so much!

Thank you so much this has been very helpful
Muchas gracias Brian. No se inglés pero está tan bien echo el video que pude entender y quedó funcionando mi carpeta compartida.
Eres muy bienvenido. Me alegro de que hayas podido hacer que funcione.
This is legit. Thank you so much. Worked for me.

At first it didn't work but I went back to the properties tab in the scans folder and everything was unchecked so I probably just exited before applying changes or something. My bad but it's fixed. Thanks for your help
Great explanation! Works great thank you!
The printer says the destination isnt valid. Thoughts? Where did you find your specific file path?
Thank you Brian. Very helpful. I had one problem - logged in as admin - went to address list, and it would not me to add User. Do you know why?
Sorry it's taking me so long to reply. The short answer is no, I don't know why it won't let you add a new user. If you're logged in under the administrator account with full permissions to the machine, then you should have the ability to add and remove users in the address book. I would check and verify that there is only one admin account on your machine and make sure it has full permissions.
great explanation.. goodluck
if your copier is to old for windows 10, you can try FTP protocol using the software FileZilla
You can also try setting windows 10 to allow for SMB V1 in turn windows features on or off.
What specifically are you having an issue with in the setup process?
Your video led me to a solution. 1000 * thanks Brian :-)
“Transmission has failed. To check the current status, press [Scanned Files Status].” why this happend
Did you solve that?
Any number of reasons. Check to make sure your copier's firmware is updated to the latest versions. Make sure your smb protocols are selected in add remove programs, turn windows features on or off. SMB v1 needs to be checked. Also make sure you dont have a firewall or antivirus blocking the port.
Brian, is there any workaround to simply get the printer to scan to a folder on a usb connected computer running windows 10. I'm not interested in full functionality, just bulk scanning to file.

Great video well done.
Thanks bro you are helpful bloody Xerox c405 I have sort it out with Windows 10 .
Glad I could help.
Nice Work Man its real helpful
Enabling SMB v1 in windows features is a must.
This tutorial is great, but does this work if you don’t have admin rights on your computer? Unable to locate “Family and Other” on windows 10 version 1909
Thank you very much brian ..you made my day😍😍
You are awesome! Thank you for help.
Thank you very much but I need you to help me with a problem that I have with the Ricoh Afisio MP3502 printer when I go to the main page and login I don't get the contact book as I can add it to be able to create an SMB Folder

Hi there, Thanks for the video... I successfully connect the printer and laptop for scanning but it gives me "Connection has failed. Check settings and check Scanned File Status." error message... Please assist how do I fix it
Can this model make color scan or black and white only?
thank you brother, you ur save my life
You're very welcome.
thanks a lot, very helpfull tutorial, I had achieved full success with that
Glad it did the trick for you.

1515 did not have scan to folder option. A software application called "Scan Router" was provided on the bundled driver disks
(Min 5:30) How did you set up Login User Name and password? Into copier or PC/Laptop?
Login user name and password must be set up on the windows 10 computer with admin rights. You then input the user name and password in the ricoh copier in folder authentication so the copier can access the windows 10 computer using those credentials.
Thanks Brian
I got a new computer and I'm trying to change the pathway. I wish there was a tutorial on that.
If the software of the machine-printer is not up to date with windows 10 ....its hopeless trying to communicate with the pc...thats what i have learned after many many wasted ours....
This is true. I believe 02 models and newer are the only ones that will work with windows 10.
how do i konw if my c4540 is compatible? i cant get this to work
Can you tell me: if I update the firmware of the printer, will it still work with both computer with Windows 7 and 10?
Nvm. I already did update the printer and it works great now. Thanks for the tip. I also wasted many hours on this.
I have an MP 5001 that worked perfectly in windows 7 but does not work now after the windows 10 upgrade?? Firmware was updated and I followed the instructions to a T? I'm out of ideas
SMB protocol is the key if you have not fixed that yet. www.corsolutions.co.uk/blog/ricoh-copier-scan-to-folder-smb-issue
I have followed your procedure and Folder showed up on the printer. But while scanning its getting failed. Please advise how to sort out
Found solution. Check smb1 in windows 10.
Hey Brain, today i tried 3 hour for scan to Folder with my MP 3502 but i failed so i just want to know that is this model support scan to folder on windows 10 and windows server 2016, waiting for reply. Thanks
It should be supported on both those operating systems with the most up to date firmware.
Hi Brian, I completed all the steps in video and still does not work. I am using a Ricoh MP3351. Any thoughts? Where can I get the latest firmware?
There have been a few people telling me that the 01 series machines from Ricoh will work with windows 10. They say that you have to have the latest firmware for the machine and you have to go into windows 10 programs and features, turn windows features on and select all the smb options. Never tried this myself but I'm still researching it.
when I log into the user interface of the printer and go to address book it is not responsive at all when I click on add user. Not sure why as I only have 3 other previous folders on other devices and in any case it does not allow me to change the other folders too. Any idea why?
try another browser if not visible. it will be at top right hand corner
Thanks for the video. I have connection successful on the RICOH 3001 but transmission to PC failed. kindly help on how to resolved that . thanks
'01 Ricoh models are too old to scan to Window's 10. Ricoh firmware on these machines don't support it.
It was very helpfull , clearly clear! :D
@@BPVYTTV , thank You so much! Finally works with MPC2500
Hi Brian
I am Using RICOH Aficio MP C2500 Printer and I have windows 10 32bit
I have setup everything but it is not scanning to a folder is not working
Please help
Thank you very much it worked great.
Thanks Bro... for your video.
Hello, your Ricoh is connected by the cable USB?
This type of scanning to a share folder on works through a network connection. USB connections require third party scanning software and TWAIN drivers for scanning.
I can’t scan to folder on windows 10 with machines MP 2551, what should I do ?
Thank you,
