methylene chloride, something found in paint thinners linked to lung and liver cancers, probably others...but it was just banned on November 22, 2019... They should have ventilated that house they filmed in...if regular paint thinner is THAT strong to be smelled all throughout a house when painting, the odorless just went undetected...

"You're gonna hear the brush strokes today". Bib, we hear the brush strokes all the time. And we hear the dabbing of the highlight colors. And the scraping of the knife. Seriously, Bob had the best mics in the world, they picked up everything. I guess they had to, since he spoke so softly. After he retired from the Air Force, he swore he'd never yell again. I sometimes wonder if he had the back of the canvas mic'ed, like a pro wrestling ring.

He only painted the part of the fortress that you can *see*. The rest (battlement, keep, bailey, buttress, portcullis, barbican, ramparts, drawbridge, moat, and gynaeceum grotto, where all the hot medieval babes laugh and play) are just behind the trees there.

Anyone able to find the Burnt Umber for landscapes? No longer sold in stores or on the web site.
+joshjhutton Mix Permanent Red (Bright Red) with Midnight black. You'll see what amazing color that makes. I'd say 2/3rd Red and 1/3rd Black. Hope this helps :) (U can add a bit of Phthalo Blue just to give it a little sparkle touch)

I Googled "burnt umber bob ross paint" and amazon appears to sell his brand of burnt umber.
if you can't find burnt umber just like some umber on fire, man. it'll burn it's 100x stronger than pthalo blue.
I bought a cheap set of oil paints at Wal-Mart for $5 and it came with a burnt number.

my foliage always muds up and I can't figure out why.On rare occasion it comes out well.But not often
Have you tried thinning it out a bit before putting it on? I think that's how he's said to work with that, but I don't trust my memory.
yes I I finally found where he was using a bit of liquid white before going into the highlight color for the foliage.and also using some paint thinner to creat an ink like consistency for tree branches.Branches are fairly easy but getting the right consistency for the foliage highlights is going to be a lot of trial and error for me I suppose.I have had the same liquid white can for 5 years and it has thickened a bit over time.Thanks
