the idols are definitely middle-eastern and eastern inspired characters! their names are based on hot and cold and represent different climates of the Asian continent! not only that, but one of the new stages to be released has ancient Egyptian themes to it. i love them both a lot but Frye is so cute and energetic and expressive!

Lots of people have said Shiver is definitely Japanese or just inspired by East Asian culture and then Frye is South Asian with a potential combination of Thai (looks and some dances) and Indian cultural music

Yes! I fully see the Brazilian notes people pick up on but to me Frye is totally Indian Holi festival!! I saw Shiver eastern (Japanese, korean), frye as south Asian (Indian but also Bangladeshi???) and then Big man is absolutely Chinese. Really excited that these idols are themed really well and look so cool!
We really have to thank Nogami for all of this. If he never did think about making a new IP, we we wouldnt have gotten this game long ago! We have to thank him for the beautiful franchise!

Ok I’m going to be honest, this direct was absolutely AMAZING 🤩 and I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. The devs definitely put their hearts into this game it seems and I’m just SOLD on buying this game now. Also, about the idols, Big Man is best boy, Shiver is beautiful and already a waifu, and Fyre is… well, I don’t really like her design but her personality is cool.
Fyre’s design is also really cute I have no complaints except that the tenta missles spam coming back to haunt me is scaring me
Frye’s design is off putting at first, but I’ve quickly gotten used to it, and I think everyone will soon
I need a string of artwork depicting inklings awkwardly sleeping in their lockers like cheap apartments

I love that the auto generated chapters felt the need to differentiate idols and BIG MAN!!
Lot of great additions like saving load outs, replays, etc. I was kind of hoping for some more ranked/anarchy footage, it's kind of weird they didn't do an overview of each mode just sort of a brief clip of showing each one. Also looks like they didn't add more commands to the d-pad which sucks but oh well. I think there will be a 5th mode added later, I don't believe Clam Blitz was revealed until post-launch, it wasn't in the S2 direct.
I agree the d pad commands would’ve been an extra cherry on top. Something like setting your preferred emote as a taunt for one and then other maybe another directional ? We have “this way” I think something like “hold!” Or defensive would be cool

I'm not sure, her outfit seems to have more South Asian-Middle Eastern influences. The music seemed to be hinting towards those regions, as well.

I actually figured something out about the ranking system, when you que into a match, it starts you on a best of 5 battle, much more compex and nice. And yeah, I’m actually fine with no new ranked modes at launch. I hope X rank is better as well when it comes back out.
they'll add new ranked modes later, they did it in splatoon 2, they'll do it in splatoon 3

Something I thought were good. The idols did not (to me) seem to have the same as spunk in splat 1 & 2. The story mode I’m not sure if the new agent is agent3 again maybe I miss heard. But all and all I’m going to love this game.
pearl and marina didn’t grow on me at first either but i LOVE them now, so i’m assuming it’ll be the same w the new idols, at least for me

Even tho Callie and Marie were more Japanese idols they’re also more generic so ppl can identify them better. That and Marina and Pearl were more western so it’s easier for western fans to identify.
