Wow! Just came across your channel from Mr Hewes channel. That Scorp is one of my old troop wagons. I am in the picture showing the wagon in the background. The picture was taken just after the radio message of a ceasefire. Kuwait 1991. I was 21 years old. I'm just behind my Troop Leader Captain Jeremy Denning ( front and centre in full desert cam). Just my fat head showing with the dodgy tash. 🤣
Ha that’s awesome. Thanks for commenting. I’m hoping to get her back and running this year and eventually on the road and get to a few shows. I have been in contact with a few of the crew who were on it on op Granby and keeping them up to date with its progress 👍
@@BenoCam cheers pal. If memory serves me. 21A was Dez Hawkins, Commander. Simmo Airey, gunner/ operator and Russ Myers, driver. 👍🏻 I was the gunner/ operator on c/s 23 with Arry Beaver my commander and Paul Rothwell the driver. The troop of 8 vehicles were split into two. I was in c/s 21 split with 21A, 23 and 23A. The other half was the Staff Sergeants (Les Critchlow) with 22 as commander vehicle . 22A, 24 and 24A. Thanks for keeping these beautiful military machines going. 👍🏻
In the 80's when I was a teenager I got a placement on a YOPs scheme at the Proof and Experimental Establishment at Gore Cross on Salisbury plain. I used to unpack the 76mm L23A1 Barrels and Breech blocks that came from the Royal Ordnance Factory, Nottingham and put them together and mount them on an 25 pdr carriage for proof firing, then clean and disassemble, re-pack them to be sent back. I used to really like doing it and knew the Barrel and Block assembly like the back of my hand, only one in ten Mantlets were proof fired. I may have had your gun in my hands.
Yo! Ben. Great update. Just recently found your channel... I live opposite your entrance and sometimes hear the other tank on it's way out 🙂. Fantastic! I grew up near to where you got them from and remember them sat there all those years. Cheers.
COMMING ON REALLY WELL BEN, YOU'VE PUT A HELL OF ALOT OF HARD WORK INTO IT GOOD TO SEE HISTORY GETTING ANOTHER,BREATH OF LIFE INTO IT AGAIN.. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
I live just up the road from where you bought the CVRT, I've always wanted to strike some kind of deal to put some time into one of these and get one running and get some drive time. My wife won't let me buy one so I've got to find away around that rule.... I've got 2 classic tractors and a 70's bronco (you may have seen driving around, to get fixed up first anyway. Looking forward to following this!
The ones that are left are pretty grim, need a lot of work putting into them. I looked at one of the chieftan (there’s a vid on my channel) from outside but again it needs a lot of work ! The abbot I also bought from there which was a good project. Took 5 years to do though !
@@BenoCam Well I live nearby and I’m an electronics and electrical engineer, was aviation and now marine, so if you ever need a hand with something electrical, I’d be more than happy to help you.
Bought that cheap because it was getting water in the oil slowly over time. Was all totally original one owner from new. Turned out to be a cracked block so it wasn’t my best ever gamble but at least now it has a new engine 🙂
Cheers. Not yet ! Still tempted but I have to try and start finishing some of these projects rather that buying more! Also hoping to find one with a bit less rust 🤣
Cheers, it’s getting there ! That colour paint is just what the MOD use to paint them, duck egg blue ! I guess it identifies which bits they have refurbed themselves rather than other non MOD spec kit perhaps.
There are two sets of calipers , one set on the steering box for the steering the others are on the hubs themselves for the main braking . I believe the steering ones are jaguar car, whereas the braking ones are cvrt specific. It seems to problem to be able to get hold of calipers or pads for either so far 🙂
Very slowly . Getting there though, still a few bits to track down. Other projects had me sidetracked for a bit but I will be getting back on with it shortly 🙂
You should add the British flag sticker back to the front where the original sticker was as well as the designation number it had during the gulf war and any other markings it had in the pictures you have of it as a tribute to the crews who crewed it.

Thanks for bringing back this Fighting Vehicle to life.
That was exciting for me. Great progress. The Scorpion is a nice option. A proper tank, but on a more manageable scale than an MBT.
Cheers glad you enjoyed. I have part 3 to make now where we actually finish it !

Looks like a great project hopefully see when its all done zand going 👍
Cheers I’m slowly getting there. Part 3 will be on its way this year !
Great work, thanks for sharing 👍💨💨
New shed looks good too!
Yeah I forgot about that , that took a lot of free time away too as I did most of it myself
Have someone make some 3D printed dummy rounds. They can be painted and except for weight, will look pretty accurate.
That would be awesome. At least I have one now as a template !
Came here from Mr, Hewes, good work.
Cheers 👍🙂
nice to see an update on this!
Hows it coming long with it now Ben, Be good to see it running.
Nice work you defo cracked on with it 👏 😊
I got my H licence on a Scorpion when we changed from Saracen to Sultan armoured cars. Seems a long time ago now.
nice blue ford tractor

You have made good progress with the scorpion. I guess you decided not to buy the chieftain then .
Cheers. Not yet ! Still tempted but I have to try and start finishing some of these projects rather that buying more! Also hoping to find one with a bit less rust 🤣
Great job on the bodywork. What is the coating on the reconditioned gear box and engine? Some kind of protective coating, or paint?
Cheers, it’s getting there ! That colour paint is just what the MOD use to paint them, duck egg blue ! I guess it identifies which bits they have refurbed themselves rather than other non MOD spec kit perhaps.
Looks amazing Beno.
Cheers it’s getting there !
Well done!

Hello, how is the Scorpion restoration going? Would be great to see it up & running. Have you been in contact with all the crew?
Very slowly . Getting there though, still a few bits to track down. Other projects had me sidetracked for a bit but I will be getting back on with it shortly 🙂

Yep that’s all coming in part 3. Going to make it look just like it did in the gulf ! 👍
Holy shit that's fantastic work Benno. Is there still a decent amount of spare parts for these knocking about then?
Ha cheers Ollie. Spares are about but nothings cheap hence why it’s taking me so long. Be worth it when it’s done though.
Hi, would you be interested in a volunteer who has training and some experience working on military vehicles?
Always up for a hand ! Where abouts are you ? Message via my Facebook page if that’s easier
Fuel bag was one of my least favourite jobs.
😎👍
