Last Monday on RAW, during that “Trial” segment (which was incredible, imho), Sami looked genuinely emotional when Jey Uso basically saved him. Sami is very, very good at his craft, but I can’t help but think he was able to take some of that emotion from Jay Briscoe’s passing, and use it to better that performance, maybe even subconsciously.
Sami is a great guy, and so was Jay Briscoe. My heart goes out to Mark, and the entire family. Selfishly, it is a shame for us as fans that we won’t get to see them in the ring together again. All of those guys- Same, Kevin Owens/Steen, FTR, and too many others to list, were just fire in the the ring with Dem Boys.

Sami is definitely one of the good guys in the business. Even people who were maybe sour on him years ago, like Jim Cornette, say good things about him these days. I got to meet Sami a few years ago, and he was just an great guy; I’ve always loved his work. I think it was amazing that even on WWE (during NXT, and then Smackdown), they acknowledged Jay Briscoe, a guy who never wrestled for them. It was like with Brodie Lee, although he was part of WWE for years (another good guy I was lucky enough to have met). It’s sad, but beautiful in a way, to see that world come together after a tragedy, no matter who they work for. These guys have all, at some point, hung out and wrestled each other, and in this current generation of wrestlers around Sami’s age, it is like a big extended family in some ways. (It seems like all these guys, be it AEW or WWE, all can be traced back to the same two promotions- OVW, and especially Ring of Honor. It seems everyone started out or spent significant time in ROH).
