Tom and Michael address the step back in the second episode of the series Smallville where the ‘freak of the week’ concept gets solidified with our introduction to a buggy individual. The guys reflect on the suspension of disbelief that it took to shoot certain scenes and what it was like shooting the special effect shots that involved kryptonite and bullet time. During this episode, Michael points out scenes that didn’t flow after remembering cut dialogue and Tom looks for answers on the floating that never got addressed.

That's because it was a cw show so they always had new popular songs to pander to the kids watching,it really started with buffy the vampire slayer and that's why the studio made the kids hangout at "the bronze"(a bar with live bands) so they could have an excuse to play new popular songs.

Superman (It's not easy) - Five for fighting, was played at the end of Season one episode 16 "Stray" when the kid Ryan, who can read minds leaves the Kent farm to go live with his aunt. Also Remy Zero appeared as themselves in episode 21 of Season one "Tempest". They were the band playing at the high school dance.
One of my favorite episodes of the entire show! So touching!!

How well the music is integrated into the show, is a HUGE reason for Smallville's success.

Yup. The music is perfectly placed in this show. And whenever Clark and Lana are alone together at the end of an episode, there is beautiful music that is played. Smallville is absolute perfection!!

I just finished re-watching Smallville and really felt I was reliving my teen years through the music.
The moment that stuck with me the most is when Clark and Jonathan have that heart to heart about Clark becoming a man/hero while "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" played. That scene perfectly captured what made the 2000s shows so special.

Re: Remy Zero: They were together and active from 1989 to 2003, and a shortened version of their song "Save Me" from their third album "The Golden Hum" was used for the Smallville theme song. They briefly got back together for a reunion/memorial tour in 2010 after their drummer, Gregory Slay, died of complications of cystic fibrosis at the age of 40. August Cinjun Tate and Shelby Tate, who were the main vocal leads, released an album in 2020 under the name Zero Brothers.
So as to whether they're still around and still active, it varies.
1:54 It was the 16th episode of season one called "Stray," with that kid who had telepathic abilities. It was playing in the finals three minutes of the episode as he is going home with an adoptive parent after giving Clark his Warrior Angel comics. I was felt it was a shame that he couldn't stick around.
And was followed up a season later (if I'm not mistaken) in the episode "Ryan" with the song Angels & Devils by Dishwalla. That song stuck with me since.

The music was really good, especially in the first few seasons. The great music mixed with the great cinematography felt like you were watching music videos starring Clark Kent & friends.
I love that Clark and Lex have patched things up enough to do a podcast together. :)
Seriously, I really love Smallville. It's something I try to watch once a year cause, crazy as it sounds, I'm fascinated by the evolutions that the characters go through, particularly that of Clark and Lex. Clark and Lex are the epitome of "What if only the secret had been out?"
That's the genius of Lex and how you, Michael Rosebaum, portrayed him. Lex was the rich boy who could never catch a break, even when things turned out his way. So as lousy to people as he eventually became, you understand cause you see this road map that led him there

Smallville had the best music ever of any TV series ever.
Smallvile helped me develop my musical taste. I was 13, the only bands I knew were Linkin Park and Papa Roach. Smallville introduced me to a lot more bands. I always loved their musical selection.
Rock and metal aren't very popular where I grew up but even people who didn't like those musical styles knew the Smallville theme song. My classmates and I would just randomly sing it sometimes.
Honestly loved Smallville so much. One of my most favourite shows of all times! I had such a crush on Tom as a teen.

The into was amazing! Also, ALL of the guest bands that played at like prom, and at the coffee shop, etc were all amazing, and fit the vibe of the show. Smallville will always be my favorite show.

Started watching Smallville for a 2nd time with my ex and now Im getting my new partner into it so she can appreciate how awesome and beyond its time this show was.
I'm sure there are millions of people that feel the same as me, so just know you guys did more than just a TV show with this! Created a warm, safe, home feeling for some, even still over a decade later.
This show made me realize a good show has a good playlist I base it for every show I watch 🤣🤣

Tom once said in an interview a few years ago that he sang when he was a student and the interviewer asked him if he still sang and he replied that he couldn't anymore because his vocal cords are no longer in good condition. . But if Tom recorded little by little in the studio I'm sure something really fantastic would come out because the beautiful voice is there and the intonation too.❤

Remy Zero were together from 1989-2003, & 2010. Sadly, a band member passed away in 2010.
Smallville definitely wins the prize for greatest theme song & most songs used out of all CW’s superhero shows, with The Flash at 346, Supergirl 312, Arrow only has 246 and so on. Paraphrasing red-k Clark in the Crimson episode “they’re not in the same league as Smallville” 😉😂😂. It’s a shame Smallville’s reduced budget impacted the number of songs played in later seasons 🤷♀️

It was the drummer, Gregory Slay, he had cystic fibrosis, so I'm kind of amazed how long he lasted and how energetically he played the drums.
And Cinjun is an amazingly down to earth guy who just loves being able to live off making music.

I love the Smallville song! I still sing it occasionally. I also like how Smallville is sort of a time capsule with popular music of the time, that was regularly a part of the show. Smallville forever!!!

Remy Zero made some pretty good songs...Music in TV/Movies is vital. If it wasn't for shows like Dawsons Creek, Smallville, most the music I listen to today wouldn't be in my collection. DC got me into Chantal Kreviazuk, Jewel, Nine days, Third eye blind. Smallville got me into Lifehouse etc which back then LastFM was pretty popular so you'd listen to the tracks on there and it would give you recommendations which led to me finding Ingrid Michaelson, Meiko etc. When Dawsons Creek got released on DVD, most of the music was changed and it didn't have the same emotional impact.
The Smallville soundtrack was unbelievable I've learned about so many cool bands and amazing songs because of the show. I still listen to it today.❤❤❤❤
My high school sweetheart and I put the Smallville soundtrack on while we lost our virginitys to each other. It was great. Very romantic for being us being 16 at the time lol. We watched the show religiously at its peak. It was a great time to be alive

Loved Remy Zero. Golden Hum was their best album (and i think that's my fav track off it) and clearly the most commercial but i think i have everything they put out and it's all pretty damned good to be fair.

Remy Zero had some great music for the limited time they were around. Got to see them a couple times in concert.
I remember thinking it would've been awesome if they played that song 'Kryptonite' by that band Three Doors Down at some point during the show's run. Or 'Superman's Dead' by OLP (particularly during the Doomsday arc, would've been perfect). Sadly neither ever happened.

So, became a big fan of Remy Zero because of the theme for Smallville. "Save Me" was probably their biggest hit, but they also had some other songs become themes. They only had 3 albums however. It seemed they would get together to make one about once a decade (I have all 3 on CD). "Prophecy" is probably my favorite song.
Ray Parker Jr talked about having that one HUGE hit (Ghost Busters) and says it's like having a winning lottery ticket.
The amount of streams and appearances that song gets pays him every year of about 800k
I loved how when you popped in the DVDs, right after that Warner Bros logo would show and twinkly piano theme would play it would kick straight into "Save Me" with a montage of scenes from the seasons. Good times.

Is it just me or is there someone else out there who remembers being 14 and watching the first season and hearing Wherever You Will Go by The Calling as the 1st theme song, before they changed it to Save Me by Remy Zero. Also, Remy Zero also wrote the song Perfect Memory. I believe I've heard it once during the rewatch but I remember it from the scene where Lana is driving the red Dodge Ram back from dropping Whitney off at the bus stop when he was going into the marines. She is driving down the road, this song is playing while she is crying. A mailbox hits the truck and she swerves off the road into a ditch, wrecking the truck. A tornado is coming, and then Lana looks out the window, sees Clark, yells his name and then the truck with Lana inside gets swept up into the tornado. There is also a really cool YT vid (ua-cam.com/video/QErDyM-5Y5M/v-deo.html) with that scene. This is a super old video. It was created somewhere around the late 2000s. There are many good YT vids out there like this one. I've probably seen them all. Hell, I've made some. But that's enough for tonight. It's time for bed now.

Lex Luther is recording Clark Kent's house through Lex Luther computer laptop and you were hearing live version of Lex first before hearing Clark . So Lex Luther is putting it on the UA-cam channel of his own computer laptop computers. Skype or Video Chat split screen all in one video . Lex Luther is a billionaire and he can do anything he wants. LOL I'm just kidding about Lex Luther being a billionaire. Or am I ?

I already knew the song but after watching the episode where Clark confesses his secret to Lana only to cause her death afterwards, it had a whole new meaning for me. during the tornado storm on the season finale of the first season had that one song where Clark was about to go with Chloe but found out about Lana and saved here in the truck and also the tornado and the Kryptonian ship went well together, and if i had a very great band id love to make a killer diller theme song and a bunch of hits keep at it don't stop at the one keep going and keep the fires burning and like that mix cd shown in the series too id love to get my hands on that as well, it is like when the Jets did the theme song for Chip n Dale Rescue rangers for the series premier and music video kinda like the opposite of Remy zero they were already a well known band in the 80's but had that one theme song exclusive to the Disney Afternoon soundtrack but was never played anywhere else which was bad, but i know what you mean Mr. Welling hearing that one song in a place a 1 in a million chance of that happening but really awesome. and when someone does hear a theme song and they like it they go for everything else that group has ever made or will make kind of sets things in stone for them for many years to come.

I had a cat that would always run and hide when my dad sang that song. He would sing really loud a lot and the cat would be fine, but if he sang the smallville theme, even quietly, the cat would always without fail run away. It was the weirdest thing and we never found out why.

Curious trivia, they are rerunning Smallville here in Mexico since a week ago. When I caught up to watch an episode, I almost wanted to sue the broadcast because they skipped the intro!! fortunately, it was moved to a further segment after the cold open.
