I would call it an "isometric grid". It's 3 sets of parallel lines, rotated by 60 degrees, so that they make equilateral triangles when they intersect.
It is "in order". In calligraphy, you would usually study letters in groups, and groups are based on similar shapes. I applied the same principle here.
