The x230 was a legendary platform. Had it for college and it was built like a tank compared to whats offered today. The best part about those series was the amount of parts available because of the sheer number of units they produced, throw in Lenovo's hardware support manuals and you had yourself a fun DIY project.
literally sturdy. It's the most durable laptop i've ever had. I bought it for $80(I live in South Korea). Former owner already had installed extra msata ssd and swapped hdd to 2.5 ssd. and he also gave me the new battery. so that was a decent deal. I just maxxed ram to 16gigs with my spare rams and changed the display from tn panel to ips panel. Total cost is about $150. Low-end Laptop these days cannot give me the experience that my x230 is giving me. If you can use just a driver(you need only one PH00 driver), refurbishing your own durable business class laptop is easier than changing your car's cabin air filter.
I still use my x220 which is still going strong with a 2.5" ssd and linux. It's great for daily use and general tasks. Retro gaming works really well on it also. I replaced the screen with an ips display years ago and it made a huge difference.
That's awesome. An X220T was my daily driver for a while. I swapped in a motherboard with one of the i7 CPU options, maxed out RAM and played around with mSATA/HDD/SSD config. Still miss using it.
I bought a refurbished lenovo thinkpad t470, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd, i5 7200u. I have to do some college work like word, excel and PowerPoint, also some light gaming and Consuming mass media. Will it be useful?
Ah yeah I've got an X230 + endeavour (linux) and it's fairly snappy; the only slight issue is that the fans really start going when I watch YT with it.
i plan to buy it on backmarket in the uk, the condition is 'good', assuming everything works, how many more years do you see in this machine? i use it to run qemu, and file transfer on NTFS external hard drives, nothing else.
I have the same laptop and used it as a daily driver for work and learning how to program with python. Mine is running a Debian 12 and runs ollama just fine to help me with automation. My upgrades/mods were: - unlocked bios mod - WiFi AX201 (for 6GHz) and bluetooth 5.1 (with a PCIE converter) - Sandisk 1TB - 16GB RAM DDR3 corsair Future mods will be Speakers and IPS LCD screen.
@ I just copied someone’s work from some forums on the internet. And for Ollama, been studying python programming and used ollama for some data digging stuff.

Agreed! I used an X220T as a daily driver and still wish I didn't sell it.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Haha yeah, great keyboards on the x20 series to boot.
@@klingon88 Definitely a nice keyboard

Well done!

Yep, though gaming will be limited to light titles.

The CPU is getting a bit long in the tooth, but maybe it's due for new thermal paste or cleaning?
@HaisteComputerRepair maybe you're right; got it from a colleague of mine who refurbishes computers but maybe he didn't check that one
@@Gajasta Good luck, let me know how it goes

For simple tasks like that, I think you should be fine for years to come. I wouldn't spend too much on it, so good luck finding a good deal
Good morning. I have a question. Can you pls infm if this model is the one you can "change the processor" ??
You can only change the CPU by swapping in a different motherboard with your CPU of choice installed. CPU is soldered to motherboard.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Tks a lot... Clear !!

@@shadowx5985 Go for it! Does it come with an SSD and enough RAM?
honestly the best laptop ever created
💯 (but I didn't ever use one as a daily driver)
X280 in 2024 sir
I haven't tried one of those out yet, but look forward to doing so!
