Hey Olivio, nice review on this book. I am the guy that did the Wine Cellar tutorial chapter. I'm glad you like it. There is a lot covered in this book and I think it still holds up to the most recent version of the app because it essentially focuses on Designers fundamentals and workflow.
Hi Kevin, awesome. Thank you. Let me know if you want to come onto my live stream or such to talk about your art and the project :) You can contact me via email through the about page of my youtube channel :)

Thank you for this great introduction to the Affinity Designer workbook.. I wasn't sure if it would be useful, but looks like it will be perfect. Just purchased! Thanks again!
Do you think we’ll be able to follow the instructions on ipad? I can get along with the desktop version of AD, but on the ipad hmm....i have this app for more than a year now and i am still confused. I’m tempted to buy the workbook because I’m a fan of Pokedstudio’s work, but I draw and design mainly on ipad as my desktop computer is a dinosaur.
To be honest, i don't know. Best if you ask Serif directly. However, this is a Workbook, meaning it is filled with creative projects and they are relevant to learning the craft, even if you need to find the changes yourself some times. :)
Hey! Our school only has affinity photo. I want to get this book to give me more ideas for graphic arts. I am wondering how different both affinity photo and affinity designer are? Do you think Could get by with photo to do the designer work?
Thank you for a great review of the Affinity Designer Book! I think I will purchase. I have zero experience with this software or graphic so it seems a great place to start. I have both Affinity Photo and Designer.
Thanks for this review, I was on the fence if I should order the book. You showing the different chapters on what I can expect helped to make up my mind to go ahead and order the book.
Once again you did a great job with your video. This time explaining a book. I was wondering do they have explanations for some of the icons that are found on the contextual menus that appear on the bottom of the screen when working with certain tools. I have figured out many of them but still some are a mystery. I use the iPad version and I know that some menus are quite different. Does this look point out the differences when applicable for the iPad? Lastly would love to see some of your fantastic tutorials specifically on Ways to create the appearance of depth.
Thank you, Barry Pasco. I don't know about iPad, but if you hover over them with your mouse on desktop you get their name. When you then press F1 a help guide opens and you can search for that name to get a Explanation of what it does
Hey I just bought affinity designer. Just wanted to know if possible did u buy the book? If so how was it? Does it help? Is it worth it? I am new to this but want to learn thank you.
@@AG-cj5gd yes the book does help!!! I also watch youtubers for more help and ask the community! But I waited for the book to be on special, I also purchased affinity photo since they were on special but I haven't played with it 😓, but yeah the book is great, it explains the tools and their features, still not finished with it since I've been busy but I do recommend it!
@@Rumeel12708 I appreciate your help & recommendation for the book. I also bought both photo & designer since they are on sale. UA-cam videos do help a lot. Once again thank you.
@@AG-cj5gd yes my pleasure!!!! And yes they are half price so why not buy the two, I don't really publish so I did not decide to buy Affinity Publisher. there are great artist showing tips and tricks and even live streams which help out a loooot!!!!! I just have to purchase the book for Affinity Photo, they also came with some downloads which I need to try out!!!! What are you using the programs for?
@@Rumeel12708 for designer I will try to learn to make a logo for my food truck. For photo I just had some photos that needed editing but want to learn more if both.
Affinity Designer would be an Illustrator CC killer if it had the Live Paint & Shape Builder tools. Those two are so important to pro graphic & logo designers.
@@OlivioSarikas Awesome! As I start using and getting stuck, I'll give you a shout. By the way, bought your brushes PRO package. Easy to install. Easy to use. Looking forward to using them!
Great review and nice coverage of the book! Perhaps you may have been asked this, But What version of Affinity Designer dose this book cover? As I have just got myself the latest version @ 1.7.3 As of now. Many Thanks
Hi Dope, it's pre 1.7.3 so not that. But most of the features should be the same and most things in the book are basic techniques. So you should be fine with 1.7.3
Awesome video! I have the workbook and Jonathan Ball from the Fisherman is on Skillshare also, but what really helped me to understand to program was the videos, because how to make patterns was not completely explained in the book, or I did not know when I first started that paths had to be closed so I took classes on Skillshare, Udemy, and UA-cam to close the gap. Also it would be a great idea to share how to make your own brushes since there are alot of people using the program , this would really help. Great job!
Sounds great. Yes, videos can be really helpful to see the individual steps and get more information along the way. I will post Courses on Skillshare soon too :)
I think so, yes. Because the desktop and iPad versions seem to be very similar in what they can do. However i don't have a iPad, so i can't give you a first hand impression on that
I see that the book was released back in 2016 according to amazon. When you worked with the book, did you find any changes between the printed verison and Affinity Designer?
According to Affinity they constantly update the workbooks. Here is the link where I got this information from: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/107432-workbook-still-worth-it-in-2020/
Please let me know when your classes are on Skillshare so I can signup, and could you make a class for Affinity Photo for digital painting I have been looking everywhere and can not find a course on this topic at all lol. I love learning al kinds of techniques and you are a wonderful teacher.
Hi hawkins, i would suggest you have a look at the free Krita Software, which is a lot better suited for digital painting and has tons of great tutorials :)
Ok I will, I have heard wonderful things about the software and I think there are some tutorials and are you making any future videos of Krita ? If so I would be very interested in a course from you.
I honestly don't get why you would want to buy a book about a piece of software.. the internet is loaded with tutorials on how to achieve things and, very important, the internet gets updated. New features are ready to be seen in tutorials or promotion videos even before a release. Why would you want to pay for a book that's gonna be outdated in a few months anyway while all the information is available for free on the internet? Honest question. I really don't get it. Sure, it looks nice on your bookshelf. I agree it's a nice book but I am missing it's usefulness. Edit: Great review though. Good video as always.
