Simon my suggestion is that you go purchase two venturi burners and plumb them in with cheap black pipe. I would guess that you could build that entire thing and mount it on some steel channel stuff and be done with the weed burners. I bet it can be built for less than $100 and it would last far longer than those burners. I envision a free standing little frame with the burners mounted to that. Then when it is time to fire just place the entire contraption at the burner ports. Give me a call to discuss if you would like. I even have some of the piping and a Baso valve that you can have.

Hi Simon! I fired my conversion kiln the day after last. It was based on your previous design. Mine is a big oval kiln and it had a stack that went a foot or so above the top of the kiln's lid. I had a few issues. The stack partly fell over four hours into the firing! Haha! I had some very bothersome wind feeding fresh air into one of my burner ports and it was persuading my flame to come out of there instead of the chimney stack! Damn wind! Haha. Anyway, I only got up to 1900-1950 F. maximum (according to my Skutt pyrometer) after 24 hours of firing! Well, I'm going to try again today with a sturdier stack and a very big wind blocker. If I can not reach cone 10 with the corrections I have mentioned above I will be all out of ideas. I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe two weed burners is not enough to get a big oval kiln to cone 10? This is my first time firing a kiln outside of my university ceramics department (University Texas El Paso). Thanks for the idea Simon, it's been a great learning experience so far.

Hi Simon, love the kiln, it's coming on nicely! Why don't you make a pottery holder for your burners? That way you can get exactly the design to fit the burner handles and hold them much more stable than the block does. Look forward to seeing the first firing!

Hi Simon i use some old pieces of dexion in a T configuration held firm with heavy bricks. the burners are held un the dexion with cheap TV aerial clamps. I can email a photo if you like. common sense prevails. when i think what we used to do in the 70's firing kilns would give the H&S nuts a heart attack
