    Part of the reason I love your videos is the extra story that goes along with the gear information. There are plenty of gear reviews that are way to clinical with no soul. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks so much Dan - I’m glad I am not the only one who loves the Voigtlander 50 1.2! It has more vintage character at f1.2 than the Thypoch and Leica 50 lux, which seem to be more true to life wide open. That f1.2 look is very special though. 50 is the only focal length I can justify owning more than one lens haha

      Hello I have used the Simera 28mm but not the 35 and the distance scales don’t line up using the TTArtisan adapter for zone focusing. Seems specific to this lens? My Leica 35mm FLE lines up fine with this adapter. The Z mount version the thypoch simera 28mm lines up fine but is not chipped…

      hi
      I agree with everyone such an innovative way of discussions around photography.
      My question was also re 28 focal length.
      Is it the new 35?
      Would you consider a 28 and 85? or is 50 a must

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  Місяць тому +2

      To me 28 is quite different to 35 - the extra field of view makes geometry look a bit more exaggerated which is cool! 35 and 85 is a common event shooter combo, flattering for faces and a more normal perspective. If I could only choose one I usually go 50 (right in the middle)

    So many 50mm options. I used the 50 lux my whole trip and didn't touch the Voigt Nokton 50(placebo effect?). The Lux is probably my current favorite lens.
    I wonder how the Thypoch would compare to the Light Lens Lab, it seems that both are competing with Leica's legacy.

    Great job on the review my friend! And awesome you are able to work with Thypoch, I'm really happy for you reaching this stage of a content creator :)
    I recently got myself the 28mm 1.4 Simera for the M system and am blown away regarding the quality and performance, specially in regard of the price. I was wondering if the 50mm Simera will be launched soon and now here we are :D
    Since I'm playing with that thought and you have the same 50mm Lux as I do - would you consider to sell the Lux to get this 50mm Simera? I do know I won't see any difference in real life shooting, only in 1on1 comparison. That's why I'm thinking about it and it would free up some cash :D
    Again awesome job and really happy to see your effort and work (which I assume you also put into your family and work, which isn't visible online) are reflected in constant growth on YT.
    Sorry for your loss, but I assume your mentor would be very proud of you seeing how you navigate these fields with balance. I definitely know I struggle in that regard.

    Hi and thx for your interesting video. Including some photos and history from HCB is a good idea for this lens. The summilux is a dream but definitely too expensive for a 50mm. This one seems to be a good compromise even if I don’t like the complex and less usable dof scale. I do prefer voigtlander one. On my side I am a Nikon shooter and prefer the 40mm vs the 50mm and the new voigtlander 40mm f1.2 (sun shade included :)) delivers all what I need for less than 700€… But this can be a good opportunity for Leica users with the advantage of the short minimal distance. Good work indeed.

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 місяці тому

      The voigtlander offerings are amazing for Nikon Z - all the bells and whistles for manual focus. Leica shooters are not normally shy about shelling out big dollars for primes, but lenses like this one make it a harder argument to justify to ourselves (and our partners lol). Thanks for watching!

      @@BokehTherapy I loved this Thypoch 50mm first look, and the fascinating background on HCB and Capa. I too am very interested in the Z version of the Thypoch 28 mm f/1.4 , for a Zf. I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts in a separate in-depth video. On adapters for the M version, I've seen a couple reviews that complain of the TTArtisan 6-bit adapter not having the correct spacing to produce an accurate infinity focus on the DOF scale, so that messes up hyper-focal DOF zone focusing. So the Z mount version would seem the safer choice for a Nikon Z camera, especially for a wide 28 mm lens--deeper DOF not needing as precise electrical focus confirmation. Great work as always, Jack.

    pretty cool video. While the newer ASPH lux have similar optical design than previous generation, they dont have the same coating (which seems to improve a bit sharpness while affecting a bit color rendition too). I also suspect elements may not be positionned exactly the same distance to accomodate additional blades and close focus distance.
    That said, to me the nanogonal bokeh on the lux is a shame.... :/ I personally prefer the Simera color rendition for portraits but its higher general contrast seems to darken shadows.
    if money isnt an objection Its a hard decision between the 2. I like the separate hood. I use lens hoods to rest camera all the time. while the integrated hood makes it more compact, I avoid using it to rest the camera....
    For the price Simera is a no brainer IMO (if money is an objection)
    I wonder how it performs shooting against the light. contrast, color, glow etc.... While the 35 steel rim doesnt provide all the sharpness etc wide open, it excels in character in that situation,,,,

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 місяці тому

      From what I have seen the closeup focus performance of the newer 50 lux is good but not great, and the stopped down bokeh is a little better. Spoilt for choice for the first time in a long time as Leica M shooters. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Jack, I’m wanting to pick up the 28mm Simera for my Nikon Zf but am struggling to decide on an adapter. Do you find the ttartisan 6bit adapter is the best choice to enable point focus detection on the ZF? I feel like options are limited between that and the tech art adapter.

    • @BokehTherapy
      @BokehTherapy  2 місяці тому +4

      Short answer? If you mostly shoot wide open and have other M mount glass I’d say go TTartisan.
      Long answer: I went with the TTartisan adapter just because the Techart is so expensive but it’s not perfect for this specific lens. Point focus detection works, but infinity focus on the 28mm Simera in M mount doesn’t line up on the TTArtisan adapter. You could get it in Z mount, don’t need any adapter, but lose the point focus detection at the cost of accurate zone focus. I have the 28mm Simera in Z mount for testing right now, will make a video later this month.
      Hope that helps!

I think prefer the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm f2.8 that I have for my grandfather's Exakta VX, although part of that has to due with the really close focusing ability of the lens, which is as close as 0.18 meters. Thanks for your feedback - I do pack a lot into each video to try and respect the viewers time, but yes I can slow down the pace for sure.

    It’s a no. Just no. I don’t care if this stuff is any good or not. I didn’t invest in Leica, one of the few remaining high quality traditional western brands left, to then throw some cheap Chinese lenses on the camera. Not happening.

      I get it, there are lots of Leica 50mms to choose from already. The 28 in particular makes a different value prop though, not everyone shoots that wide that often to sink 8K into one lens. Thanks for your perspective

    Please increase your DOF when showing us close ups ... the point is to show us something, not to look "cinematic" :(

      Thanks for your feedback. I did stop down but these were all very close up shots so DOF is quite thin. Was there something that wasn’t clear about the lens’s features?
