Even though I love the specs of this monitor (Ultrawide lover here) and I really do want to buy this. Not having a VESA mount is a deal breaker as pointed out by Ed. I want to have the flexibility to mount this monitor anywhere I want it to be. Curious though. Why do monitors at this price range without VESA mount still exist? I'm pretty sure they have people doing research on how most people prefer their Gaming/Productivity monitors are installed in their setups these days right?
To be fair, this is a first gen product. The main monitor portion bends and curves, mounting I/O on the bendable part may have been a challenge. Second gen might fix this, at the very least for the first gen they got the bend right which is it's main feature, no longer having to choose between a straight or curved panel, having the choice of both......Now we have high refresh rate oled panels......once this has a VESA mount. It will be the ultimate panel.
Moving the electronics into the stand becomes more popular as you don't have to integrate it into the panel's case. Then integrating electronics and stand saves you money again. So it's understandable from a marketing standpoint, but for one a electronics "backpack" that can take an add-on stand *and* have VESA with the ports out the side would be feasible, as he pointed out and this is a thing that simulator drivers/flyers will want, especially loons like me who fancy a moving platform. That's a niche market, I admit, but the VESA crowd will be large. Now that the panel is there I expect other vendors to come up with options.
When you're talking about never going flat, the reason I've never gotten a curved monitor is I like to lay on my bed and watch media on my pc - sure, I can do media in the lounge-room and just have my gaming in the bedroom but I enjoy watching stuff before I go to sleep. This thing appeals to me for me for that alone, the fact it ticks a whole bunch of other options I'm interested in for my next monitor like OLED, 21:9 aspect ratio and not wasting my money and space on built in speakers means this has shot up to the top of my list.
As the lead concept designer, I will give you a hint. Eventually they will inverse flex, and allow to flex edge to edge, creating a circular inverted monitor. This technology will be groundbreaking for 2d side scrolling games, as the monitor will then spin left or right as the game moves your character in either direction.
The only issue with this technology is when viewed from the rear, as the viewer sees the place where the beginning meets the end. We call that the Dead Zone.
It would probably work great on a corner desk. That way it could be slightly farther away and stand would be less intrusive. But you're right not being VESA mountable is it's only drawback that I can see.
and add a vesa mount and do similar to samsung where 1 thicker cable goes from the monitor to a hub/box where everything plugs into so its just 1 wire running up to monitor from the desk. maybe make it so that hub could attach to the monitor somehow if you prefer, but otherwise have both ends of that 1 cable be detachable so you can get different lengths to suit your needs. at what im assuming is going to be a very high price point that feature shouldnt be crazy.
Could have been the perfect solution for your new set up Ed where you weren't happy with the straight edge of the bottom monitor meeting the curved top screen, real pity it ain't Vesa mountable.
My dreams are converting to reality. Just eagerly waiting for a 49-inch OLED monitor! Desperately! We are now at 45 inches hopefully we will reach to 49-inch OLED monitor!
This monitor is close to perfection and yet there are a few things I’d love to see improved. It would be nice to see smaller sizes too, like 40 inch. Also at that size, it not being a 3840x1600 is a deal breaker for more. Also, can we hide the middle handle or do I need a rotatory tool to chop it off ?
While bending is a really nice feature for versatility, I would much rather prefer a flat OLED monitor in 32" size and 16:9/16:10 aspect ratio and massive passive cooling fins on the back so OLEDs do not overheat. Until then, I will wait for my monitor upgrade. But gaming on this monitor with curve looked very tempting.
3440 x 1440 resolution in a 45" ultrawide = 82.87 PPI I much prefer the display downsize a little bit and also crank up the native resolution. 80+ PPI is super duper obvious pixelated image, 24" 1080p even has higher PPI. Its really cool to have larger display and even adjust your own curvature. That's really wet dream for someone who really looking for immersive ultrawide display. But 80+ PPI is really huge deal breaker. At this point I think AW3423DW or LG 42/48 c2 (using 21:9) aspect ratio settings do even better compare to this monitor. Really cant understand why most latest monitors with better technology always come with this kind of super obvious/weird downside.
idk i had a smaller 1080p monitor and immediately noticed how sharper everything looked compared to a 27in 1080p one but then went back to 27in one and, again, immediately noticed pixelation but still liked the bigger one much, MUCH more and you also dont notice pixels after a week
