Stunning imagery, Matt. This 8-25 is going to be a real winner. Good to see they restored the MF clutch + Lfn button after omitting those on the 12-45 f/4 PRO!
I have just pre-ordered 8-25mm PRO, can't wait to get my hands on it and test it myself. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and also some really awesome photographs!
@@MattSuessPhoto I never understood this idea of photographers “loving” their gear. Do handymen LOVE their drill? I doubt it. It’s just a tool, get the right one for thr job and start shooting. Love the creation, not the tools.
@@Seanonyoutube 🤣🤣 What a silly thing to complain about 🤣🤣. Of course people can and do love some of their tools, even a handyman loving a particular drill is completely normal. Absolutely nothing wrong with someone loving some/all of their tools to do the job. Makes work - and life - more enjoyable when using tools you love. ❤️
@@MattSuessPhoto seems like a large portion of photographers love their tools more than they love the images made with the tools. Seems a little backwards to me. That’s all.
@@Seanonyoutube Lighten up dude. Photographers can love their photos AND even love the tools they used to create those images - plenty of love to go around. I'm hoping you too can find more love in your life - cheers!
Great review with wonderful series of photos! I am looking forward to your Milky Way photos from this lens. I pre-Order this lens from my local camera store.
Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting lens, I`ll probably get it for my landscape photography. I noticed your L-bracket in the video, what L-bracket are you using, and will it fit E-M1X?
Thank you for the review. It would be very helpful if you compared the size of the 7-14 2.8 and 8-25 4 both at collapsed and extended with the hood on. This lens looks a bit big for an f4 so seeing this would be helpful. Yes, I know the about the range on the long end, but it still seems rather big. Love the shots with the ND filters. This seems like one of the main selling points of this lens. I would love to hear how it compares to the 7-14. Looking forward to your next review.
Hi Evan - I'm curious as to why the extended length would be of a concern? I only worry about the size of it closed and if it thus fits in my camera bag ;) While shooting, the extended length hasn't been an issue for me at all.
@@Centauri27 Yes, true, but much closer in weight than I was originally expecting. I was thinking it would be lighter than the Olympus 12-40 f2.8, but it's a bit heavier.
PanaLeica 8-18mm f2.8-4 is identical price, has screw-on filter as well, is lighter (315g vs 411g). Can someone give a valid reason to justify Olympus 8-25mm price?
Those additional 7 mm make it unique in term of versatility. No other lens goes from 16 to 50 mm equiv. That's a remarkable difference which makes the Oly a very versatile lens IMO. The panaleica is a nice lens but it's 2.8 only at 8 mm. Horses for courses. If I owned the 8-18 I probably wouldn't feel the need to upgrade, but if I had to buy one now, I'd go for the Oly, no doubt. Perfect walk around lens for landscape and street photography.
Great lens thanks for reviewing. Lens is a bit heavy and the filter sizes are larger and more expensive. How about comparing it to the Laowa lens? ua-cam.com/video/veRHeq-FhUA/v-deo.html
FWIW The lens is "heavy" at less than 1 pound, and filter sizes are larger because it is a solid f4 lens. Same mm filter thread as the 12-100mm f4 lens. If you want something lighter with smaller filters look at the M.ZUIKO ED 9-18MM F4.0-5.6. I don't use the Laowa lenses so can not compare them.
@@MattSuessPhoto thanks for the suggestion. For a M4/3 lens, yes it is a bit heavy for smaller Olympus bodies like the Pen- F and OMD EM5/10, and the filter prices increase exponentially if you have multiple filters. The suggestion on the 9-18 is a good one. N
@@mr.l6982 I have the 9-18 and 7-14. The 9-18 is unbelievably small and light, esp compared to the 7-14. If all you want to wide and light, and you don't mind the slight loss from 8mm to 9mm, then then 9-18 is hard to beat. Especially since both are f/4 at that point
Give me the same lens for half the price without the weatherproofing and build quality. I'd be using it on my E-M10, so there's no need for the weatherproofing.

@@MattSuessPhoto Great photo. Stacking does solve the f4.0 issue with this lens.
@@davidblack2632 Thanks - it does. I stack most of my night shots anyways though, even with my f1.2 lenses.

God bless you for this great video
❓Why ND filters and not the built in ND mode on the E - M1iii❓
I am thinking of selling my EM1.2 and the 12-40 F2.8 to buy this lens. Keeping the EM1X and Pen F. What a perfect focal length.

@@MattSuessPhoto you make a very good point. I guess I will have to pick one up for myself to see if it something I find to be an issue or not.
@@evanmcknight2566 I think that's a great idea! And FWIW the 12-100 f4 extends also throughout the zoom and that is one of my favorite lenses.
Also, even though it's similar in size volume-wise compared to the 7-14, the 7-14 is quite a bit heavier.
