I love watching how you're able to apply paint so quickly and easily... definitely shows the skill involved. I assume you're never hindered by your actual brush control.
fantastic tutorial, i have used many of the ideas to paint my own, i didnt go as light with the colour but thanks to your tutorial i have some great looking death guard, thank you so much.
Hey there thank you for puting this video up I am using this scheme on a entire death guard based army and it is working fantastic!! KEEP UP THE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD WORK!!
Watching those layers of sickly pale green highlight building up is a thing of beauty. Quite ironic really. :) Bookmarked for when I get round to doing my Nurgle cultists, and maybe daemon prince.
I've been waiting for one of these for 10 years. I've never painted a good plague marine. Also I like that you use GW colors and explain what your mixtures are. Thanks for the vid.
Ich habe diese Version der death Guard mal ausgetestet und ich muss sagen mit der ein oder andren etwas abgewandelten farbe sehen die jungs sehr gut aus.
could you please please please show a way of painting typhus with the new gw colors or just any nurgle marine im really stuck and cant find any on you tube loving the vids btw
Hey Alexandra, tolles Video.
Awesome vid Alexandra as usual :) I tried this tutorial out on one of my own plague marines and I am really pleased with the results, this has entirely changed how I have been painting them now :)
I gotta say, I like this take on Death Guard armor. The lighter, more pus-colored armor is much more convincing than some of the more cartoonish greens I've seen before. This is also the best method I've seen so far for painting rusty metal.
Love the depth of green you've chosen to work with. The way I do blends (not that theres anything wrong with what your doing) is I use a wet palette and I add a bit of Vallejo Paint Retardant to the water. Then you can add several different hues of greens to the palette and mix the intervening shades. The paint stays wet for quite a while and you can go back and forth. One of the nice things with that technique is that it saves paint and lets you do multiple models over a long session.
Thanks I just got my first plague marines & have been trying to get the right look. mine are yellowish green , & no way near as good as yours!....but look ok! but watching this, gives me a lot of insperation. trial & error!....it's all down to practice,,,& a little skill! Your a star Alexandra.... & I wish you well... Catseye has too sleep!......or suffer the slings & bows of outrageous fortune! X
The complexity of this process is really making me doubt buying Typhus and a Death Guard army! Awesome tutorial, question though, what would you use to color the shown intestines of Plague Marines?
great tutorial thanks a lot personaly I fid it easeir to paint the highlight colour on to the chipped areas and then painting in the black/brown I find that this makes it easier to get a really fine highlighted line great rust tecnique I will try that one out :)
if you mean ..how to get the paint off! then you can use paint stripper. However there is another way ,if you have plastic or finecast resin models. Use Detol, soak them for at least 24 hours, then scrub with toothbrush, dont mix water tho' or you get 'gloop! there is a video about it, on u tube. you wont loose any detail. just type in 'how to get paint off citadel minatures & you should find it, guy has Scottish accent! just in case you dont believe me.
Hey Alexandria, great fan of your videos. I am in strife, is it good to use an army painter primer of wolf grey? as i do not have acess to uniform grey
You had me right up until you started doing the metal. I think you left it way too brown and orange. Have you ever thought of a brownish brass sort of colour? I've always found the corrupted armor looks far better when there's a "cleanish" metal trim for the shoulderpads and the like for contrast. Also, do you do commission work?
Hello Alexandra! hey I've been following your videos and like them very much. I'm a big fan :P This video inspired me to start my deathguard chaos marines for my current CSM army. I have one question though, If you were to paint the skin for a plague marine, how would you do it?? I was thinking maybe using les's Plague daemon nurgle tecnic but make it in a smaller scale. What do you think about that?
This is exactly what I was looking for!!! thank you for the suggestion :) I would also like to paint the vampire lords pale as well, but not green obviously. any suggestions? I don't like the color GW paint's them, they look too alive :P
For the paint chips: Might it not be easier to paint the highlight colour first, then add black inside? Also, I would add a scratch of metallic colour to the chipped areas, to show the metal beneath.
Awesome, not how I wanted to paint my plague marine,i am a more dark and dirty kind of guy. But awesome job hope you can make a dark kind of feel of them, it will make my day thanks
What colors would you suggest for a purple basecoat? I'm having trouble figuring out what I should use to show that they are indeed plague marines but how to make the plague look more apparent. Any thoughts?
@deardaddyboy Could be, but the benefit to all these videos is to have multiple styles so that the techniques all reach a wider base. APJ has an airbrush for most of his models lately, and those are an investment that not all painters have.
The rust idea is perfect, I think you caught that just right I'll defo be trying that in the future. Out of interest, do you film / paint using day-light bulbs? (ie. Lights that recreate the spectrum of natural light?) Since your greens seem alot - greenier than mine xD
I need a job again so I can get back into 40k. I want to play the most disgusting foul and evil army. I want to play so many armies. I wanna play the old Flesh Eater's. Also Blood Angels. And Khorn's armies. Demons and Human dominance in the galaxy. It's hard to pick a side to be loyal to though lol xD
lol. i bought the plague marines set, hoping for both an awesome and tough troop to field and some cool parts to put on my chaos lord. then i opened the box, and... METAL MODELS. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
how do you just know how to paint some of these schemes? is it just because of all the experiance you have or are you just looking at the paints you have and seeing what might work or not? nice painting though I like how you used the preheresy colors as well
Im a big fan of you GirlPainting ! My skills are comeing along well ! Not as good as you but I am learning the ways :) Do you prefere to use a Glaze Medium or Water to thin down your paints ? Or do you use both ? Please help me figure this one out lol You or any other one who knows the major diffrences. Dont mind thestopanimator 777 hes busy getting the wax warm ;)
I love watching how you're able to apply paint so quickly and easily... definitely shows the skill involved. I assume you're never hindered by your actual brush control.
I think I have ASMR. Or whatever its called. I get a tingling feeling in my head watching you paint. Feels good. :)
watching this while painting death guard. thank you Alexandra!!!!

Just followed your tutorial. Very happy with the results. Your tip for rust is pure win. Thanks very much :)
epicness!!! really love the rusty look to the bolter!!!

Nicely done...and a really good tutorial...love the rust effect...thanks for posting it up...Jim.

i approve this paint job! hail Grandfather Nurgle

Nice to see my old Death Guard Marine get painted. I'm glad that it was helpful. Better than just rotting in my Bitz-box ;)
Or you could always convert (or re-paint) your Guard into Nurgle Cultists to play with Plague Marine allies!
Love the depth of green you've chosen to work with.

have you ever considered doing a primarch project? I'd love to see it from you.

Aaaaand this is a really great tutorial Alexandra! This is way much better :P
Thanks for doing it, you deserve a big like ;)
I want to see you paint a "Great Unclean One" haha
great tutorial thanks a lot personaly I fid it easeir to paint the highlight colour on to the chipped areas and then painting in the black/brown I find that this makes it easier to get a really fine highlighted line great rust tecnique I will try that one out :)
nice job Alexandria looks great
I was always more of a badab black fan then a devlan mud fan :)

Hi Alexandra,
I like a lot of your tutorials, great work - i'd love to see them in HD though. Any plans on upgrading your camera?
Hey Alexandria, great fan of your videos. I am in strife, is it good to use an army painter primer of wolf grey? as i do not have acess to uniform grey
superb tutorial
will be using your techniques for my nurgle army :)
GReat tutorial, one of your best videos.
It really helpful thank you.
Be careful with Break Fluid. Because every Break Fluid has different integredients and some may melt plastic and resin minis.
looks amazing!! even golden demon worthy
really cool marine!!!!
use "Sterillium classic pure" from Bode its an sanitizing solution but works brilliantly.
Very helpful video ! Just one question. Can I also do it with black basecoat ? Thanks for your reply in advance :)

This is exactly what I was looking for!!! thank you for the suggestion :)
I would also like to paint the vampire lords pale as well, but not green obviously. any suggestions? I don't like the color GW paint's them, they look too alive :P
can you do a typhus painting video
excellent as always could you do a chaos marine in the flying raptors paint scheme, that would be cool to see
I always kind of preferred plague marines with brownish armor rather than green. But I still like the look of this regardless
this is not Devlan Mud, but Badab Black
Plague marines are Gorgous :D
For the paint chips: Might it not be easier to paint the highlight colour first, then add black inside?
Also, I would add a scratch of metallic colour to the chipped areas, to show the metal beneath.
this video is just so awesome!!!!!! deathgaurd rule
I really like all of ur vids
Awesome, not how I wanted to paint my plague marine,i am a more dark and dirty kind of guy. But awesome job hope you can make a dark kind of feel of them, it will make my day thanks
Deathguard have come a LONG way
What colors would you suggest for a purple basecoat? I'm having trouble figuring out what I should use to show that they are indeed plague marines but how to make the plague look more apparent. Any thoughts?
@Walkman452 why are there any dislikes?
@deardaddyboy Could be, but the benefit to all these videos is to have multiple styles so that the techniques all reach a wider base. APJ has an airbrush for most of his models lately, and those are an investment that not all painters have.
The effect is easy to do
How long does it take you to paint a miniature? I'm just starting out, and 1 mini can take up to 5 hours!
papa nurgle is pleased.
The rust idea is perfect, I think you caught that just right I'll defo be trying that in the future. Out of interest, do you film / paint using day-light bulbs? (ie. Lights that recreate the spectrum of natural light?) Since your greens seem alot - greenier than mine xD
Could you do some tutorials on pre-heresy chaos space marines?
This may be a very stupid question but what do you use to stick the model to the paint pot? :o
amazing i wish i could paint this good could u please do a vid on how to paint a archon?
¡For Papa Nurgle! Great work
is this devlin mud wash the same as devlan mud wash?
