I like to think that I am not a 'by the book' or 'inside the box' kind of guy, so I would name this Chapter: The Star Knights. Inquisitional backed knights that purge Heresy and Daemonic taint throughout the Galaxy. For my own army, I chose a theme not widely used back in 2004, when I purchased my first army online to learn how to play the game. Fourth Edition Rules were released a couple of months after the purchase, so I entered the Do It Yourself Chapter Competition and placed 3rd at the Chicago Battle Bunker (I still have the framed certificate on my wall). Using your method of creation... they would be... Unknown Primarch. Late Founding (I chose this due to buying up a ton of marines and clipping the parts and sorting them by details. Enough, so that each squad of the 2nd Company have all the same backpacks, same chest plates, same legs, same style of Bolters, etc... even down to Only allowing the Veterans to have 'beakie' helmets and 2nd edtion style gear and equipment). The Chapter is a 'Near Codex' chapter, with 'clean' armor (being so newly created that there has not been time enough to 'pass on' armor bits to new marines as 'semi-holy relics' of the Chapter). The are mixed range troops, with a basic Two Color scheme (I will get back to that in a moment when I reveal the Chapter's Theme). Squad markings are for the most part Codex in nature. The Chapter is based on a Space Station in orbit around a Feral World (More on this later due to Theme). Allies: the Mechanicus, the Administorum, and the Sororitias. Arch Enemies: Orcs, Tyranids, and Chaos Space Marines. They view the Emperor as both a Father and a Superhuman paragon of what a Space Marine should be. And finally, the Inquisition sees the Chapter 'Clean' for the most part. They are primarily a Codex Chapter, with some Space Wolf elements and traditions, but are flexible enough to be able to incorporate 'new' ideas, tactics, and equipment into their own version of the Codex. I was saddened that of all the many, many Space Marine Chapters, I could find NO 'LION' themed chapters. So, using mostly bits from the Warhammer Fantasy game, and a few Space Wolf pieces as well.. I created one. The Crusade Lions, or 'Crusading Lions'. The lion theme is taken in many ways, colors: Tawny Tan, and 'chocolate' brown. Bronze and Gold for metallic highlights, excepting such prosaic things as Bolter barrels, tips of Meltas, and such things. This, use of bronze was an idea on my part due to the Chapter recruiting from the Feral World they orbit, which is frozen in an early Bronze Age culture, and such persons within the Chapter would find bronze comforting on a subliminal level. Gold, of course for Officers and Veterans. The Chapter Icon is a Black Rampant Lion. And the Chapter Battle Cry is: Purity of Essence, Purity of Faith! The Space Wolf influence comes from a tradition in the Chapter, where you accumulate enough honors to 'Hunt the Lion' on the planet below (an old phrase in the Chapter: Sometimes you Hunt the Lion... Sometimes, the Lion Hunts You). Now this would seem simple for an enhanced human, you would think... but, the planet has a species of Tiger sized Lions, usually averaging around 12 to 15 feet in length (not including tails)... to model this, I have extensively used and modified the Chariot Lions from the WFB's High Elf Chariot teams. These lions were abducted as very young cubs after the Marine defeated the Pride Male in single combat. They are then raised, trained, and live beside their Marine until they either die in battle, or are retired to challenge a Pride's leader. Such a challenge is an opportunity for the Marine to abduct further cubs to train in turn. Thus, the Chapter's Leaders all have at least one, and sometimes two such Companion Lions (Such figures are treated as Space Wolf Fenrisian Wolf Pack Leaders that fight with the Leader in combat and are usually modeled wearing extra gear, such as Voxes, Ammo, Spare Sword, Spare Bolter or Bolt Pistol, Grenades, etc. The Lions are also used in groups like Fenrisian Wolves and lead by a 'Cyber-Lion', a Veteran Lion using the Pack Leader's stats). Lightning Claws are considered Holy Weapons, since they replicate a technological version of the Lion's own natural weaponry. The Chapter Master has a set of Master Crafted Lightning Claws, 'the Claws of the Great Lion', which are said to have been made from bits from the spare components of the Emperor's own Lightning Claw glove. All Veteran Marines and their equipment is 2nd Edition models or parts, other than the Space Marine's own Basic Armor. Thus you have Stern Guard Marines wearing modern armor, but are equipped with 2nd edition Bolters with scopes, 2nd edition back packs, 2nd edition weaponry, etc. Their Vehicles are all 2nd Edition as well. Due to their close links with Mars, they have access to more Terminator Suits than is normal, as well as having a far easier time laying their hands on such rarities as Dreadnoughts and other rare vehicles. mine are the knights of alabaster, they lost 2 of their 3 battlebarges in the warp and now are in deep debt to a grand inquisitor who got them back on their feet and vouged for them when their geneseed was called into question. I'm focusing on the second company captain recently appointed from the 1st devestator squad veteran sgt. position in the former 9th company.
My Space Marine Chapter are the Angels of Justice 1. the primarch is Lion El'Johnson 2. they are a chapter of the 2nd founding 3. primarily they are loyal to the "legion" of the Dark Angels and the emperor only in second line they are loyal to the rest of the humanity 4. they are a near codex chapter like the DA, but their companys are bigger then normal (around 110 - 140 men/company). Also they have two Scoutcompanys. 5. the Space Marines of the Chapter in higher ranks wear monk robes. They are chaos hunters. Scouts wear old Mk4 helmets. 6. the Angels of Justice prefere to kill their enemys at long distance but the never say no to an old-fashioned punch-up. 7. the armour of the marines from the 10th until the 2nd company are dark green with red eyes. The trims on the shoulders, the aquilla and other ornamentations are bronze. The company collors are on the left knee, the troup number in roman numbers on the right shoulder. The robes are beige. The first company and Librarians wear black armours with bronz ornamentations. Their robes are white. Sergeants of all companys wear bronze helmets. 8. The Squad marks are simillar to the Dark Angels. 9. The home of the Chapter is the macropole planet Velt (Secmentum Ultima/ near the Tau empire). The fortress of the chapter extends over an whole continent. On the planet live nearly four billion people, in the chapter fortress life next to the marines five million people. The goverment of the planet is indirect controlled by he chapter. The landscape of the planet is similar to the old Terra. 10. The closest allys are the other chapters of the Dark Angel "Legion". 11. The arch enemys of the Angels of Justice are the forces of chaos. 12. The emperor is a super human and the father of their father. NEVER a god. 13. The Angels of Justice try to stay away as far as possible from the Inquisition. They give warriors to the Deathwatch but they clean the minds of the warriors from all informations about the hunt. Battelcry: For the first and the primarch. Ave Emperor! Chaptermaster: Ahadiel Master of the Deathwing: Cheriour Master of the Ravenwing: Amaliel Chieflibrarian: Oriston Master of the Reclusiam: Interrogator-chaplain Haamiah The chapters symbol is a white balance. The standing leg of the balance is a broken sword. So that are some main informations about the chapter.
With the founding thing, my Legion (Chapter) is based around one of the missing Primarchs. Also I have a high concentration of scouts due to 2/3's of the Legion being wiped out at Isstvan V, and further casulties on Terra. I use Forge World MKII Crusader Armour because it's my favourite, haha. It's expensive, but i'm getting there.
After thoroughly washing and rinsing them, another option is to use Krylon or Rustoleum for plastic. On resin models, I use white automotive primer. It has a finer texture and a bit more "bite" on resin. Give em a try.

I made the angels of the darkness (not the chaos darkness) based on corpse party's darkening... most are blood/fallen dark angels... they leave their chapters (because they think their chapter made a wrong choice) on a ship... then they find a planet that looks completely normal but isn't on any map they find... when they land their ship malfunctions and they can't get off the planet they then find an abandoned structure that they go into... they then get trapped inside an get taken by the darkening... their closest ally is tyranids yes tyranids... the darkening takes you when you kill people or when you feel lots of despair... the tyranids are there because they were sent to find something extremely psychic and got cut from the hive mind and taken by the darkening...
Alexandra, you should go to the 40k fanon wiki and make an article for your custom chapter. There are alot there for inspiration and comparison. I myself have made about 6 chapters and it is one of the most creative things about 40k you can come up with.
Pale colors tend to do that, try using white primer, or if you use black primer, start with a darker color and add layers of progressively lighter colors, ending with white.
Alexandra, Thank you soooooo much for this video! I am going to surprise my girlfriend later this week with a custom chapter I made using the Blood Angels Codex, your video, and her favorite colors! So look out for the Phoenix Ashes and their Red, Pink, White, and Purple Armor (yes I am serious, she Likes Colorful Space Marines).

One more thing I noticed. Beast Hunters are mentioned using special units of Ultramarines to fight Tyranids. Wouldn't that fall under the Inquisition as well... specifically Ordo Xenos in which the Deathwatch are the Chamber Militant.

My chapter is a mix of bounty hunters and the best of the imperial guard who were lucky enough to be able to be recruited on Anark Zeta their recruitment planet their called the. Blood Vipers, they are called this due to the plague/disease which they suffer from the name of this plague is unknown but it is thought to be a mutation of the disease of which the legion of the damned suffer from they are not loyal to the emperor they are just a hired army (very well supplied army that is) even though they have been decimated once before where they lost their leader Drax Xneobrat in the Horus Heresy due to the fact that the plague they suffer from has a tendency to make the victim implode with rage if all enemy's which one surrounded them are either critically wounded or decimated and they're still full of well full of rage but since his death the Blood Vipers thankfully stopped imploding but instead have somehow lost the ability to speak instead the have developed a telekinetic ability to speak They use manly meele weapons or a accelerated plasma bolter (custom😏) with a chainsword Not much is known how they get their powers but people do believe they got it from one of the lost primarks who had been lost for 10 millennia I really liked making them and I think their colour scheme and overall gear looks pretty badass
An ultramarine outcast strike force called: The Phoenix Wing with 5 Assault squads, 2 stormraven gunships, 4 stormtalons, Drop pods with tactical squads and devastators.
Me and my buddy were thinking of titles and chapter goals. He was thinking of highly respective and loyal to the emperor but work with anyone. Mine is similar but has knowledge and feelers well within the known universe that it not only knows how to deal with a threat by any means but also has forces at the ready for anything. They work from both a single planet and many fleets. Best part they aren't shown by color, just a badge. They also have equipment of a vast and refined variety. When I say they answer to any threat, it's no joke. They are also lead by a space marine that was grown to be one of the new astartes but was lucky to never become part of the cursed twenty first, instead was on another course made in the outer fringe.

"My army is super bad ass and shoot laserbeams out their dicks and have psychic powers so they know what you're going to do before you even know what you're going to do and apply that knowledge retroactively by screaming "Nuh uh! You didn't hit me! You didn't hit me!" any time you land a shot!" People like him are horrible to have to endure in a game. Thankfully they're usually just 12 year old kids who grow up, or have too short an attention span for WH40K.
Well, to be honest I did forget to be more in depth with my description. Basically my chapter honors humanity by every chapter member keeping a record of their lives before becoming space marines. They know they are men rather than forget who they are and letting their chapter be their only life. No, they aren't op like you say, they just have many ties with the imperium because they know they were once like them and suffered their hardships and therefore they are always willing to lend a helping hand. I'm even going as far as them known to fight with tau because there were threats even they couldn't take out themselves. Also, you could consider my chapter to be the space marine equivalent to mercenaries, their only payment being their stories of battle. I said they were defined with a badge because the rest of their armor is adorned with markings of their life history. Oh and since some of these marines were once mercs themselves, they have ties with such groups, going further with former imperial guardsmen as these atartes helping their former regiments.
My marine chapter is known as the azure skulls. A blood angels descended chapter. in late M40 on the planet Quarus. The world was under siege by chaos infused citizens with the upper class of the hives being left to be torn apart by 99% of the hive's population. The planet before hand was peaceful. With no glimpse of conflict for centuries. due to this, the guard regiment were lazy and untrained and were quickly overrun and slaughtered. All seemed lost as the horde bashed against the gates of the upper hive. But from the heavens. dozens of thunderhawk gunships flew down to the spires and dozens upon dozens of marines garbed in crimson armour and blue helmets began putting up a brilliant defence. pushing back the horde for a bit. however, there was no hope. around 80 marines and 200 guard against increasing numbers which will shortly build up to millions. the marines, without a second thought rounded up civilians and retreated. Quarus was lost. but a battleship belonging to the chapter begun barraging the hives. with holy purification. This was the first recorded appearance of the Azure skulls, and it wasn't a very good first impression. descended from the blood angels they follow the codex astartes up to a point. as they too have a death company. but unlike their more pure father and brothers. they suffer heavily from the red thirst. for this they tend to keep their distance from their opponents as much as they can. as they fear losing themselves to their flaw. For this they have become very good at defense and have a fair bit of artillery. Their choice in tactics, many have believed them to be Imperial fist descended. But their chapter master, Vincent Cain openly explained it on numerous occasions. Their homeplanet Vena Novus is a fairly barren desert like planet with huge masses of lands but with even bigger oceans. However, in recent centuries. Pre great crusade and Golden age technology have been discovered. So the chapter have got good ties with the mechanicus. The reason they have a good amount artillery and terminator armour. The chapter is very distant and self secluded. rarely making contact with any one else. other when they need to. for this many other chapters have become quite suspicious. However they are close with the Flesh tearers chapter as they both share a big flaw and their tactics somewhat work in unison. the marines themselves are fairly silent in their monastery but in battle they let out monstrous cries of rage. as it is said that their voice gets distracts their rage so they think more cleanly. Their colour scheme is dark red all over except for blue trims and helmet colour which changes with role: tactical marine: Dark blue devastator: Black assault marine: yellow sergeant: white captain: gold and their battle cry is "woe to the conquered" please tell me what you think. and give us feedback. I have worked on this chapter for about half a year now

yeah the changes of the dark angels are the 1 and 2nd company the death and raven wing deathwing = a full company of termis raven wing = a full chapter of fast attacking bikes trikes speeders etc and there was even a third wing the iron wing that was a wing for heavy support like a full company of predators whirlwinds and other goodies
My Chapter is named the Alpha Swords, I created a page for them on the 40k fanon wiki where you can read about them if you like. :) They have a black and red colour scheme.
i have my own custom chapter: they are the "Midnight Suns" and they worship the sun and moon of their home planet because they are always on the exact opposite sides of the planet from each other. they are white and midnight blue, split right down the middle with gold trim on the white, and silver on the blue. they live separated from the people on their home planet and only visit to take the chosen back to their fortress to become "battle brothers". they also worship twins, and when they find them, they take them and make them their Champions, the eldest twin in white and gold to represent the sun, and the younger in midnight blue and silver to represent the moon. one day they found two sets of twin, it was a glorious day in the chapter and took both to be trained. both sets of twins excelled and ascended to champion status, but the chapter master realized that only one of the two sets of twins could become the chapter champions, so a competition was arranged.the twins competed and the victors where decided. many where unhappy though believing that the chapter's champions should be more clever than strong. other thought that valor was more important than cold calculations. arguments lead the yelling, yelling led to confrontations, confrontations lead conflict, and conflict lead to violence. soon the chapter had split clean in two. one half supporting one pair of twins, the other supporting the other pair of twins. as time passed the records where lost and it was forgotten which had chosen to turn to CHAOS. those who turned to chaos called themselves "Apocalypse Moons" they are dark red instead of white, and dark purple instead of blue, but the trim stayed the same. they have now torn half their world apart fighting a bloody civil war while still fighting the alien scum on occasion.

Mine are called death watch, they are orange and black, they decendened from both salamanders and grey Knights, they defend the people of the imperium and none have died

My chapters a variation of space wolves and are called the ember wolves because they come from the side of fenris that is consumed by fire and they live isolated on various archipelagoes
My own chapter is the "Silver Eagles". They are a Ultramarine sucessor chapter. They are supposed to be similar to medieval knights.1. Known, they are descended from the Ultramarines.2. Second founding3. Loyal4. Near codex. They inofficially command their own Imperial Guard regiment, the "Celerian Blue Rangers".5. A mixture between "Clean" and "Knights".6. Both. Their preferred tactic is their most resiliant troops entrench and let the enemy engage them, then the reserve circle around and attack the enemy in the flanks.7. Mono. A silver eagles on a blue backround with white edges.8. Probably Codex.9. A civilised world that they rule as feudal lords. The society is practically medieval Europe in the modern age.10. Probably the Imperial Guard, because of the before mentioned privately owned IG regiment.11. Chaos. They have a beef with the Traitor legions after a raid against their homeworld.12. Demigod.13. Probably suspicious14. Probably Codex.I know, they are perhaps a bit dull. But hey, works for a introduction i guess. And besides, what matters is if the stories and characters are adequate, right?
Mine is a group split of from the dark angels and are separated from them, they are free but still loyal to the emperor, hunting chaos forces they are called "Shadow Angels."

The 40k universe was always intended to be populated by whatever it is that the players come up with ... I'm currently working on getting my Emperor's Companions chapter started . My "chapter" (if you can call them that) are the Black fists. Thay are formed by space marines who are loyal to the emperor but don't really like the empire as it is now neither their original chapters so they joined to hunt chaos all arround the univers in fleets they borrowed

I created one. The Crusade Lions, or 'Crusading Lions'. The lion theme is taken in many ways, colors: Tawny Tan, and 'chocolate' brown. Bronze and Gold for metallic highlights, excepting such prosaic things as Bolter barrels, tips of Meltas, and such things. This, use of bronze was an idea on my part due to the Chapter recruiting from the Feral World they orbit, which is frozen in an early Bronze Age culture, and such persons within the Chapter would find bronze comforting on a subliminal level. Gold, of course for Officers and Veterans. The Chapter Icon is a Black Rampant Lion. And the Chapter Battle Cry is: Purity of Essence, Purity of Faith!
The Space Wolf influence comes from a tradition in the Chapter, where you accumulate enough honors to 'Hunt the Lion' on the planet below (an old phrase in the Chapter: Sometimes you Hunt the Lion... Sometimes, the Lion Hunts You). Now this would seem simple for an enhanced human, you would think... but, the planet has a species of Tiger sized Lions, usually averaging around 12 to 15 feet in length (not including tails)... to model this, I have extensively used and modified the Chariot Lions from the WFB's High Elf Chariot teams. These lions were abducted as very young cubs after the Marine defeated the Pride Male in single combat. They are then raised, trained, and live beside their Marine until they either die in battle, or are retired to challenge a Pride's leader. Such a challenge is an opportunity for the Marine to abduct further cubs to train in turn. Thus, the Chapter's Leaders all have at least one, and sometimes two such Companion Lions (Such figures are treated as Space Wolf Fenrisian Wolf Pack Leaders that fight with the Leader in combat and are usually modeled wearing extra gear, such as Voxes, Ammo, Spare Sword, Spare Bolter or Bolt Pistol, Grenades, etc. The Lions are also used in groups like Fenrisian Wolves and lead by a 'Cyber-Lion', a Veteran Lion using the Pack Leader's stats). Lightning Claws are considered Holy Weapons, since they replicate a technological version of the Lion's own natural weaponry. The Chapter Master has a set of Master Crafted Lightning Claws, 'the Claws of the Great Lion', which are said to have been made from bits from the spare components of the Emperor's own Lightning Claw glove. All Veteran Marines and their equipment is 2nd Edition models or parts, other than the Space Marine's own Basic Armor. Thus you have Stern Guard Marines wearing modern armor, but are equipped with 2nd edition Bolters with scopes, 2nd edition back packs, 2nd edition weaponry, etc. Their Vehicles are all 2nd Edition as well. Due to their close links with Mars, they have access to more Terminator Suits than is normal, as well as having a far easier time laying their hands on such rarities as Dreadnoughts and other rare vehicles.

mine are the knights of alabaster, they lost 2 of their 3 battlebarges in the warp and now are in deep debt to a grand inquisitor who got them back on their feet and vouged for them when their geneseed was called into question. I'm focusing on the second company captain recently appointed from the 1st devestator squad veteran sgt. position in the former 9th company.
More like the Knights of the Gaybo that use dildo's as weapons and have a cock and balls as their insignia.

My Space Marine Chapter are the Angels of Justice
1. the primarch is Lion El'Johnson
2. they are a chapter of the 2nd founding
3. primarily they are loyal to the "legion" of the Dark Angels and the emperor
only in second line they are loyal to the rest of the humanity
4. they are a near codex chapter like the DA, but their companys are bigger then
normal (around 110 - 140 men/company). Also they have two Scoutcompanys.
5. the Space Marines of the Chapter in higher ranks wear monk robes. They are
chaos hunters. Scouts wear old Mk4 helmets.
6. the Angels of Justice prefere to kill their enemys at long distance but the never
say no to an old-fashioned punch-up.
7. the armour of the marines from the 10th until the 2nd company are dark green
with red eyes. The trims on the shoulders, the aquilla and other ornamentations
are bronze. The company collors are on the left knee, the troup number in roman
numbers on the right shoulder. The robes are beige. The first company and
Librarians wear black armours with bronz ornamentations. Their robes are white.
Sergeants of all companys wear bronze helmets.
8. The Squad marks are simillar to the Dark Angels.
9. The home of the Chapter is the macropole planet Velt (Secmentum Ultima/ near
the Tau empire). The fortress of the chapter extends over an whole continent. On
the planet live nearly four billion people, in the chapter fortress life next to the
marines five million people. The goverment of the planet is indirect controlled by
he chapter. The landscape of the planet is similar to the old Terra.
10. The closest allys are the other chapters of the Dark Angel "Legion".
11. The arch enemys of the Angels of Justice are the forces of chaos.
12. The emperor is a super human and the father of their father. NEVER a god.
13. The Angels of Justice try to stay away as far as possible from the
Inquisition. They give warriors to the Deathwatch but they clean the minds of the
warriors from all informations about the hunt.

With the founding thing, my Legion (Chapter) is based around one of the missing Primarchs. Also I have a high concentration of scouts due to 2/3's of the Legion being wiped out at Isstvan V, and further casulties on Terra. I use Forge World MKII Crusader Armour because it's my favourite, haha. It's expensive, but i'm getting there.

After thoroughly washing and rinsing them, another option is to use Krylon or Rustoleum for plastic. On resin models, I use white automotive primer. It has a finer texture and a bit more "bite" on resin. Give em a try.

I made the angels of the darkness (not the chaos darkness) based on corpse party's darkening... most are blood/fallen dark angels... they leave their chapters (because they think their chapter made a wrong choice) on a ship... then they find a planet that looks completely normal but isn't on any map they find... when they land their ship malfunctions and they can't get off the planet they then find an abandoned structure that they go into... they then get trapped inside an get taken by the darkening... their closest ally is tyranids yes tyranids... the darkening takes you when you kill people or when you feel lots of despair... the tyranids are there because they were sent to find something extremely psychic and got cut from the hive mind and taken by the darkening...
Alexandra, you should go to the 40k fanon wiki and make an article for your custom chapter. There are alot there for inspiration and comparison. I myself have made about 6 chapters and it is one of the most creative things about 40k you can come up with.
Pale colors tend to do that, try using white primer, or if you use black primer, start with a darker color and add layers of progressively lighter colors, ending with white.

My chapter is a mix of bounty hunters and the best of the imperial guard who were lucky enough to be able to be recruited on Anark Zeta their recruitment planet their called the. Blood Vipers, they are called this due to the plague/disease which they suffer from the name of this plague is unknown but it is thought to be a mutation of the disease of which the legion of the damned suffer from they are not loyal to the emperor they are just a hired army (very well supplied army that is) even though they have been decimated once before where they lost their leader Drax Xneobrat in the Horus Heresy due to the fact that the plague they suffer from has a tendency to make the victim implode with rage if all enemy's which one surrounded them are either critically wounded or decimated and they're still full of well full of rage but since his death the Blood Vipers thankfully stopped imploding but instead have somehow lost the ability to speak instead the have developed a telekinetic ability to speak
They use manly meele weapons or a accelerated plasma bolter (custom😏) with a chainsword
Not much is known how they get their powers but people do believe they got it from one of the lost primarks who had been lost for 10 millennia
I really liked making them and I think their colour scheme and overall gear looks pretty badass

An ultramarine outcast strike force called: The Phoenix Wing
with 5 Assault squads, 2 stormraven gunships, 4 stormtalons, Drop pods with tactical squads and devastators.
Me and my buddy were thinking of titles and chapter goals. He was thinking of highly respective and loyal to the emperor but work with anyone. Mine is similar but has knowledge and feelers well within the known universe that it not only knows how to deal with a threat by any means but also has forces at the ready for anything. They work from both a single planet and many fleets. Best part they aren't shown by color, just a badge. They also have equipment of a vast and refined variety. When I say they answer to any threat, it's no joke. They are also lead by a space marine that was grown to be one of the new astartes but was lucky to never become part of the cursed twenty first, instead was on another course made in the outer fringe.

Thankfully they're usually just 12 year old kids who grow up, or have too short an attention span for WH40K.
Well, to be honest I did forget to be more in depth with my description. Basically my chapter honors humanity by every chapter member keeping a record of their lives before becoming space marines. They know they are men rather than forget who they are and letting their chapter be their only life. No, they aren't op like you say, they just have many ties with the imperium because they know they were once like them and suffered their hardships and therefore they are always willing to lend a helping hand. I'm even going as far as them known to fight with tau because there were threats even they couldn't take out themselves. Also, you could consider my chapter to be the space marine equivalent to mercenaries, their only payment being their stories of battle. I said they were defined with a badge because the rest of their armor is adorned with markings of their life history. Oh and since some of these marines were once mercs themselves, they have ties with such groups, going further with former imperial guardsmen as these atartes helping their former regiments.

My marine chapter is known as the azure skulls. A blood angels descended chapter.
in late M40 on the planet Quarus. The world was under siege by chaos infused citizens with the upper class of the hives being left to be torn apart by 99% of the hive's population.
The planet before hand was peaceful. With no glimpse of conflict for centuries. due to this, the guard regiment were lazy and untrained and were quickly overrun and slaughtered.
All seemed lost as the horde bashed against the gates of the upper hive. But from the heavens. dozens of thunderhawk gunships flew down to the spires and dozens upon dozens of marines garbed in crimson armour and blue helmets began putting up a brilliant defence. pushing back the horde for a bit.
however, there was no hope. around 80 marines and 200 guard against increasing numbers which will shortly build up to millions. the marines, without a second thought rounded up civilians and retreated. Quarus was lost. but a battleship belonging to the chapter begun barraging the hives. with holy purification.
This was the first recorded appearance of the Azure skulls, and it wasn't a very good first impression.
descended from the blood angels they follow the codex astartes up to a point. as they too have a death company.
but unlike their more pure father and brothers. they suffer heavily from the red thirst. for this they tend to keep their distance from their opponents as much as they can. as they fear losing themselves to their flaw.
For this they have become very good at defense and have a fair bit of artillery. Their choice in tactics, many have believed them to be Imperial fist descended. But their chapter master, Vincent Cain openly explained it on numerous occasions.
Their homeplanet Vena Novus is a fairly barren desert like planet with huge masses of lands but with even bigger oceans. However, in recent centuries. Pre great crusade and Golden age technology have been discovered. So the chapter have got good ties with the mechanicus. The reason they have a good amount artillery and terminator armour.
The chapter is very distant and self secluded. rarely making contact with any one else. other when they need to.
for this many other chapters have become quite suspicious. However they are close with the Flesh tearers chapter as they both share a big flaw and their tactics somewhat work in unison.
the marines themselves are fairly silent in their monastery but in battle they let out monstrous cries of rage. as it is said that their voice gets distracts their rage so they think more cleanly.
Their colour scheme is dark red all over except for blue trims and helmet colour which changes with role:

devastator: Black
assault marine: yellow
sergeant: white
captain: gold
and their battle cry is
"woe to the conquered"

I think a good idea for a name would be the Sky Lords. They have a fleet of ships for starters, and it fits with the pale blue of their armor.
A potential saying for them could be "look to the sky, for it shall be the last time you do"

My Chapter is named the Alpha Swords, I created a page for them on the 40k fanon wiki where you can read about them if you like. :) They have a black and red colour scheme.
I would actually say Grey Knights are a close combat army, and Space Wolves are both ranged and close combat.
i have my own custom chapter: they are the "Midnight Suns" and they worship the sun and moon of their home planet because they are always on the exact opposite sides of the planet from each other. they are white and midnight blue, split right down the middle with gold trim on the white, and silver on the blue. they live separated from the people on their home planet and only visit to take the chosen back to their fortress to become "battle brothers". they also worship twins, and when they find them, they take them and make them their Champions, the eldest twin in white and gold to represent the sun, and the younger in midnight blue and silver to represent the moon. one day they found two sets of twin, it was a glorious day in the chapter and took both to be trained. both sets of twins excelled and ascended to champion status, but the chapter master realized that only one of the two sets of twins could become the chapter champions, so a competition was arranged.the twins competed and the victors where decided. many where unhappy though believing that the chapter's champions should be more clever than strong. other thought that valor was more important than cold calculations. arguments lead the yelling, yelling led to confrontations, confrontations lead conflict, and conflict lead to violence. soon the chapter had split clean in two. one half supporting one pair of twins, the other supporting the other pair of twins. as time passed the records where lost and it was forgotten which had chosen to turn to CHAOS. those who turned to chaos called themselves "Apocalypse Moons" they are dark red instead of white, and dark purple instead of blue, but the trim stayed the same. they have now torn half their world apart fighting a bloody civil war while still fighting the alien scum on occasion.

Second founding3. Loyal4. Near codex. They inofficially command their own Imperial Guard regiment, the "Celerian Blue Rangers".5. A mixture between "Clean" and "Knights".6. Both. Their preferred tactic is their most resiliant troops entrench and let the enemy engage them, then the reserve circle around and attack the enemy in the flanks.7. Mono. A silver eagles on a blue backround with white edges.8. Probably Codex.9. A civilised world that they rule as feudal lords. The society is practically medieval Europe in the modern age.10. Probably the Imperial Guard, because of the before mentioned privately owned IG regiment.11. Chaos. They have a beef with the Traitor legions after a raid against their homeworld.12. Demigod.13. Probably suspicious14. Probably Codex.I know, they are perhaps a bit dull. But hey, works for a introduction i guess. And besides, what matters is if the stories and characters are adequate, right?

My "chapter" (if you can call them that) are the Black fists. Thay are formed by space marines who are loyal to the emperor but don't really like the empire as it is now neither their original chapters so they joined to hunt chaos all arround the univers in fleets they borrowed
