Chael you are so wrong here. Henry moving up to bantam and taking TJs belt there only makes him a bigger star.....at FLYWEIGHT. Look at Mighty Mouse. He dominated the division forever and mainstream fans have no clue who he is. So Henry knows that he needs to do something more than Mighty Mouse did to make himself a mega star. Having two belts makes him that mega star and by association, it elevates the whole division. It honestly shocks me that Chael doesnt see this.

Flyweight can’t afford the slowdown that a champ leaving causes. Henry is currently the biggest and only real draw In the division, if he’s gone there will be no interest in the in term belt. I’m a pretty big UFC fan and can hardly name anyone else I’d be interested in other than maybe benevidez. Moving up would be good for Henry, not for the division. Therefore it doesn’t make a lotta sense claiming the saviour of the division.

This fight to me was further proof at how bad weight cutting is. Cody Garbrandt, say what you want about him, is an accomplished striker with feared KO power. In both fights, he dropped TJ but TJ survived and beat him. Cejudo, although his striking game is clearly getting better and better, has never been known for his KO power, yet he KOs TJ quickly. Maybe I'm using MMA math here, but 135 TJ, renowned for his durability, could take hard shots from a legit heavy hitter, but 125 TJ gets knocked down by someone not known as a striker and can't recover. Full praise to Cejudo, he was clearly the better fighter, but I think it shows how detrimental weight cutting is. There will always be exceptions (insert Tony Ferguson joke here), but more guys are moving up, feeling better and succeeding, including Dennis Bermudez on the same card, while a famously durable world champ goes down and gets smashed, I think that speaks volumes.

I think your argument would hold more water if a 125er beat a 135er at 135. Making TJ go down did take a lot out of him regardless of what we say. Still, the 125 division should continue if there are good matches to be made. The future of the division should not hinge on whether the 125 fighters can beat bigger guys at lower weight

Cejudo’s message after the fight should have been something along the lines of “How dare he say we don’t deserve to be here. Or that we aren’t fun to watch. We have always been the fastest, most technical division in the UFC. I went 5 rounds with Dj and it was the hardest fight of my career, Dillashaw was the easiest fight of my career.” That’s what the division needed from him. Him beating Tj, who many people think is one of the best P4P fighters ever, gives him a platform to promote his division as the best division. Instead he just promoted himself as the best fighter who’s trying to save the division. Those are NOT the same and it’s a very important difference.
