How to build an eMTB with CYC Photon - Complete Installation Guide - Official

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Here, we cover all the need-to-knows about how to install your CYC Photon ebike conversion system onto your bike's frame. With easy to follow steps and a clean frame, installation can be as quick as 30 minutes.
We walk through the different connectors, bottom bracket assembly, and motor positioning so you can ride your newly converted ebike with confidence.
The bottom bracket on this Trek frame is a 73mm standard BSA threaded but installing it for a BB92 kit or a fatbike isn't much different. We made sure to go through all the aspects that you need to be aware in order to get the kit onto your bike.

Right on time. Looking forward to this.
LOL! Voice in left channel! What year is this 2003?
Thank you...Precise and concise....I like that!
Thanks Sparkie!
Thank you for this! I'm looking forward to receiving my photon, can't wait to install it on the bike! :)
Awesome! Hope you have fun with it and don't hesitate to contact us if you need anything.
Good job! The Photon seems great. Congrats.
Thanks for the support! We appreciate it!
Has CYC done anything to fix the heat dissipation problem with these Photon motors? They run super hot, and shouldn't.
Im here for the background music
finally..i’ve been wondering why i have extra spacers.😂
Music is distracting, particularly as I'm trying to understand the accented narration. Otherwise, a decent video. You need one for mounting on a tadpole trike (Catrike, ICE, HPV, Azub, etc.). Thanks
I'm a trike rider, but know nothing about ebike kits. Why couldn't this kit be mounted on a trike boom?
@@anim8ted923 It can be. I have it on my Catrike Dumont. Over 1,000 miles as of July 2023, and love it.
Is this designed to have enough clearance to not have to cut off one of the ISCG-05 chain guide mounts on bikes that have those? That's a common issue I see with the Bafang BBSHD. Bike in question has BB92 bottom bracket if that makes a difference. Would like to know to inform my purchasing decision, thanks.
clearance is around 0.5 inch or 12.6cm. You would likely need to cut off the tab.
Why do the wires come UP out of the motor? Seems like an easy way for water to get in.
We've ensured that it's fully sealed so water ingress is not an issue
@@cycmotor but stones and branches can't broke it? I live in the swiss alps ...
Whats the measurement from the center of the bottom bracket to the inside of the chainring ?
Can you put the spacers on either side of the BB to center the chain with the rear cassette?
ya but can it play crysis?
on a serious note, what kind of kV and speeds with this unit?
Hi I’ve just ordered the photon and I’m looking for a bottom bracket tool so I can torque it correctly what size tool would I need?
So what happens if there 2-3mm gap between the lock ring and the bb. Everything is in as tight as can be used up all my shims to fit the bb cup so I can’t shim after the motor bracket. Is this gap going to cause issues
Can we fit other crank arms on it ?
Looking forward to this, already ordered. What's your shipping times like?
There's a bit of a backlog but check with our support team or the dealer that you ordered from (if applicable) & they'll be able to give you a clear ETA.
Iv'e never been keen on the frankenEbikes that are unavoidable with all the cabling needed so this only needing 3 because of the torque sensor is a huge selling point for me. Still waiting to learn how it compares to the BBSHD in power and performance with the same battery.....
The proton coming out later this year will be the bbshd competition unit.
You guys doing the testing in Kzn? Can I give your bike a test ride before ordering? Holla / Giba / cascades?
How do you secure the twist throttle i can't find directions on that?
Do you have a list a bikes that people have sucessfully fitted your motor to, this would be useful and could encourage more motor sales. I am currently nevous about buying one of your motors to attach to a full suspension bike. The measurements of the motor are not enough to see if it will clear the pivoting part of the swing arm.
You could also sell a plstic 3d printed style black of the motor so that people could buy that to check if the motor will fit properly before spending $1K +
Thanks for the recommendation. Wow the list of bikes is a very long list but maybe have a look at our instagram page for some inspiration. Will try make a list but a 3D printed model isn't a bad idea.
@@cycmotor Yes if you do sell a 3d Printed model of the motor to check you can offer a refund to those who buy the real motor if they return the model.
I have seen your motor fitted to a Vitus Mythique and it looked outstanding
Has anyone used after market crank arms? Having to use two non-drive side.
“Please be reminded to add grease to the threads” - doesn’t show the type of grease or how much to use
“Tighten the BB cup to spec” - doesn’t provide torque spec
“There is a vinyl frame protection included in the bag” - doesn’t show it nor where to install it
“We recommend to add grease to the spindle to help with waterproofing” - doesn’t show where or how much to use.
Maybe next time make a 6-minute video and include all these details?
Agreed! Not really a 'Complete Installation Guide' is it... nothing on the installation and set-up of the peripherals either.
@@cyrilmonkewitz The point being made was that it isn't a 'Complete Installation Guide' . I think you're the one who needs to learn how to read. Looks like a UA-camr, High Voltage, has done a far more thorough installation video recently which looks like a good reference.
You just use normal bicycle grease , it’s extremely common
How easy is it to sevice and can it withstand exposure to tropical rain storms?
No problem with heavy weather conditions. Just don't submerge the motor but tropical rain storms are not an issue. The parts are all serviceable (except the controller) and parts can be purchased at resellers or from our websore directly.
xt 90 is the battery connector ? or xc90 I dont know what to do to connect my battery . my battery is ads 1 that actually plugs into the battery
yes, xt90 connectors.
what is the price of this set?
Hi there, you can find the pricing for the various options here: www.cycmotor.com/product-page/photon-750w-mid-drive-conversion-kit
How long until it heats up using throttle only ?
Hi there, the motor has thermal protection so you will not need to worry about it overheating. How long until you reach thermal protection, however, will depend on a lot of external factors.
will it fit the dengfu ebike frame?
no, this unit is designed to fit regular frames.
If you're gonna order one of these motors you'd better do it now so you can ride it next summer🙄 cause that's about as long as it's gonna take to get it🤷♂️ They'll take your money but you'll wait a long, Long,, long ,,,,time to get it.???😮 Apparently they only have one employee🤦♂️
I was hoping to pull of the typically reported 8 week timeframe but failed. As far as I understand from what they have told me is they have run out of brushless outrunner motors at the moment. Some customers recieve them later than others even when ordered sooner or on the same day. Delivery time varies between 3 weeks to 7 months just like Tesla.
Nice looking motor, but very over priced. Such a shame. I could install 2 bafang motors plus batteries for 1 photon
It's pricey, but probably not overpriced for a mid drive with torque sensor.. I mean check the Paradox Kinetics mid drive prices if you want to see expensive!
@@v1ncen715 tsdz2 is a very great motor, with a big issue: the overeating in mountain climbing ... hope this is better!
@@flippercatamaranTSDZ2 is also known for tolerance issues.
Recently got this motor after waiting 6 months. that doesn't work !!! little communication with the company on how to fix it 😮 Filed for refund 🤷♂️ 🤷♂️overpriced💰 With no help from the company😖 do not buy!!!👍 Buy something that's not just going to be a money grab for the company and works!!!!
Typical delivery time seems to be 8 weeks, for others up to 7 months. Was hoping to pull it off but failed. What was wrong with it? There is nothing similar on the market besides entry level TSDZ2 with tolerance issues and limited peak power (not good for long distance semi-recriational commuting in hilly areas when average speed needs to be consistent).
@@uvwuvw-ol3fg Receive my motor over a month ago, haven't been able to ride it because it doesn't work !!company doesn't seem to care ,Jump through all their hoops. Sent them all the pictures they wanted ,including error codes Only time they've gotten hold of me is when I've gotten hold of PayPal, otherwise they don't seem to care about getting my $1000 motor working.!!
