Nice to see some fresh innovation in the controller space. Something like this would seriously make me consider a set of turntables again for the first time in about 12 years. I love the fact you get the benefit of using these as a controller, DVS or traditional vinyl deck.
All we need to complement this is a mixer with Rekordbox built in and a screen, so we don't have to use a laptop for the DVS / controller asoects. This has been my dream product for about 10 years!
As someone who can’t instantly tell what key a track is in, the endless possibilities of the step tempo is amazing as you could use it with master tempo to mix songs that wouldn’t usually be in key and actually have it dead on just by adjusting the bpm while leaving one track on master tempo so they lets align. Wish my XDJs had that
Pretty cool, though, I think if you've already got a pair of technics/phase-controls/dicer(midi pads), then you've basically already got most of the things on offer here, with the benefit of being able to play 45s. One thing that would be interesting to know is how sound quality is stacking up to a technics 1210 using the same needles.
@@digitaldjtipsin their website they are saying the sound has been improved over the PLX-1000…but they also said the same about the A9 and a quick comparative with A&H 96 proved… the sound hasn’t changed that much. Although it’s a different subject

It's nice to see Pioneer DJ taking this kind of direction, but the price... for that kind of money you got 2 RP8000MK2 + Phase (even the 4 remote version) and you still got money for a good scratch mixer. Lot of way they could done that better, like using the same layout as the RP8000 for the little pad (Reloop make them bigger on the MK2 for a reason), put the little control next to the target light instead of under the tonearm, and why not make this little magnet thing (which seems like a great idea anyway) the same size as the 45rpm adapter so it can be use that way. The pitch step is also something great that should be on every player, more intuitive than having a separate tone control. I'm waiting to see how those can handle rumble, as the PLX aren't great with that. (also, why Pioneer alway find long complicated name with letter that no one know what they mean :) )
Cool idea and was debating on updating my ancient but bulletproof Technics 1200 MK2s to the new MK7s. The fit and finish looks nothing compared to a 1200. Also, I wonder how long until these seem dated because of all the technology.
Hello, very interesting video, you really know your stuff, so much to this turntable but I have a question, I'm great at spending money on the best gear, I want a very excellent turntable to play my records, I don't intend to use this as a DJ so would this turntable suffice to just be an excellent record player? Thank you for any advice you can give, new subscriber! Looking forward to more fascinating videos like this one.
As much as people think this new Pioneer hybrid turntable is so great, the Reloop RP-8000 MK2 hybrid came out 4 years ago and still is the number one Hybrid turntable.
I got a PLX-1000 and had to sell it back after a few weeks. Nothing related to warranty covered issues. Problems came from the very conception of the product. 1) The deck is heavy, yet its isolation is really bad; 2) Pitch resolution is so raw that one has to keep on syncing records for lack of a midpoint; 3) The lamp jumps up to quickly that a big noise corrupts the smoothness of a running music; 4) Wow & Flutter is about 0.05-0.08, far from the declared 0.01. For a comparison, my Technics SL 1200 MK2 scores 0.02-0.03%. The new PLX-CRSS12 seems to have all these issued unresolved. Moreover, declared Wow & Flutter is 0.15 !!! Last, from this video, I note the tremendous delay at showing a speed change caused by moving the pitch control unit. For me, this is enough to prevent from me to buy this new turntable.
@@Fran-or3lt Exactly, 'influencers', including digitaldjtips hosting this comment, do emphasize pros, sometimes merely declared pros (without verifying they really exist), and hide ALL cons.
Important question I'm hoping you can clarify for me, I skipped the Rane 12 MKi because I don't prefer HID control at a 12" platter size. Currently own a Rane 12 MKii and love it since it actually puts out a timecode signal. Been harassing a company called Skratch Attach for a Rane 12 version of the magnetic tone arms they make for the Rane One (they claim its on the way) hoping I can cobble together something exactly like this. Does this CRSS12 actually output a timecode signal? Or are we just using an HID connection when disabling the tone arm? On a side note, I bought a Reloop 8000 and love the look and feel of it, but have had nothing but trouble with the midi connection when playing out live causing me to pull the midi plug and use it as just a standard turntable. It has been so consistently bad I had to stop taking it out to live gigs. Breaks my heart as I waited a long time to cop one expecting it to be my dream deck but now I just want to get rid of it. I love Reloop products and rarely have had issues with them, but this one has been a really bad experience.
This is something DJ Angelo, JFB and DJ Q-Bert would use. James Hype won’t use it as hasn’t got the “Cue” button apart from Cue pads it could work for him. Time will tell. I’m not a pioneer fan but as a “DJ” I use whatever thrown in front of me. My preference is Traktor S4Mk3, Prime 4 and 1210s mk2.
@digitaldjtips - is it possible to run this turntable in DVS mode (with a laptop) into an analogue mixer? In other words - does the audio out from the turntable also carry the DVS audio or does the setup require a DVS enabled soundcard? I have a xone db4 mixer and I was hoping this turntable would provide the DVS audio in it... thanks
As I understand there are no RIAA-amplifer in this units? It’s a straight phono level as understand from another review so it doesn’t ruin another good mixers like rotarys.
Great video, thanks. Could you please check the actual WOW&Flutter? They report a 0.15% figure, which clashes to the 0.01% of PLX-1000 (Which contrasts with my own measurements) and the 0.025% of ALL SL 1200 MKn. Thank you in advance
Is it possible to buy one turntable and use that as a digital controller for both decks by switching which deck is actively controlled, or do we need to purchase two?
do you have to use that mixer for it can you also use the 450 mixer with this for also playing digital pc input? i like more the club looking mixers thx
Is it more accurate wen using the magvel clamp instead of standard DVS mode, time code vinyl wen mixing , even tho they are both DVS control , how well the pitch fader performs , ?
@@digitaldjtips We need a silent cue, a sync button, key lock, pitch bend etc. not another way to trigger hot cue. I don’t understand why they choose always the same shortcuts layout, it's a turntable! I need CDJ buttons not DJM on that part of my set-up, even REV7 have more interesting stuff around the plater
I guess it's not a ludicrous price given it's doing double duty, albeit stripped back. It really would nearly halve the required space for people who have proper controllers plus traditional decks. It seems odd to me if it's designed to be run in battle mode to not make the unit marginally wider and move the pitch control down to the right like all other modern controllers. Plenty of other things have been changed why not adjust the form factor so you don't have to reach back behind the tonearm? Suddenly you can move the small screen up so it's not set under the tonearm anymore.
I'm also not a fan of battle mode, but it seems like the target audience for a product like this is the die-hard turntable using crowd, which leans towards turntablism/hi-hop scratch Djing (why else are they holding onto their 12" decks for so long...). I wish this CRSS-12 could have been designed so the visual cues work well in either format but... I'm not sure how that would've been possible.
I'm still waiting for the day i dont need to use a laptop with it and having to carry around a heavy bag full of vinyl to use with it. For example it would be nice to see a USB slot and a built in screen for reading playlists
Thanks for this. But I'm having an issue with my pair. I have them connected to my S11 via RCA and USB but when I have a song rolling on deck 1 and then change the deck from 1 to 3, it's still controlling what's on deck 1 on the platter, and not allowing me access to deck 3 (despite that it says it's set to deck 3)... What am I doing wrong? Or is this a known issue? Because I can't figure out where I'm going wrong. I just tried this on my Rev5 and it works fine. Is it something to do with the S11? I'm also wondering if stem level control via the EQs is an option on the S11 like it is on the Rev5? Any help on this stuff is greatly appreciated.
The comments about the excellent phono pre-amp with great sound are confusing me. Other reviews suggest there is no phono pre-amp (meaning you can’t use Line In inputs) and that this was done deliberately because even if not used a phono pre-amp reduces audio quality. And yet Phil is suggesting the opposite?
@@HumanThoughtExpression my understanding was that phono pre-amps are only required when needing to amplify outputs to line in levels rather than phono levels. Why would you need a phono pre-amp to play vinyl? You can play it fine to any mixer or amp that has phono ins as opposed to line ins
Sorry Ian you’re right there are no phono preamps on these, some confusion due to the short time we had them and the production schedule is another piece of gear with phono preamps we were reviewing at the same time!
Can i use this as an extra deck while using my opus quad, for example set it as deck 3 and control rekordbox deck three and have my opus working as deck 1-2-4, so basically controlling deck three using the digital deck the crss 12 has and the other decks with the opus and both devices connected to rekord box
@@digitaldjtips hmmm it would be a very sick set up butttttt before i buy a 1000 something dollar turn table i meed to do my research, and btw it would be great if you guys could like maybe try it out and see if it works if you still have the thurn tables and the opus 😅, oh and your videos and lives are amazing
@@digitaldjtips Just wondering because in another video I saw that it can control the cues and loops and stems of the other deck but not the actual platter part get what I'm saying? So I'm just trying to confirm this because I want to switch from a controller to turntables again as I do have a lot of vinyl and it would be nice to throw in a vinyl here and there at a live show.
To be honest I don’t see why they don’t have a usb drive input with a small touch screen for browsing the files. This would be a game changer. If I could just have tracks on a usb same as xdj or cdj and insert into the turntable
Those dust covers would offend me, everything on those decks is designed to be used battle style, except the dust covers, the Pioneer logo is the wrong way round...
Why have they put the pitch control behind the needle at the back of the turntable? Surely the pitch control is the most important part of the turntable unless you're just hitting sync all the time in which case why would you invest so much money on a turntable? Seems like it's been designed by people who have no experience of traditional turntable mixing.
Because it is aimed at scratch DJs who rotate traditional turntables by 90 degrees so they are this way around, to make it less likely they’ll knock the tonearm when scratching.

It looks like the number one feature the CRSS-12 brings, which the RP-800 doesn't, is the built-in DVS without tonearm. Anything else?
This is the real truth!!!
Influencers cant state this when reviewing the units as Pioneer would cut them off from loaned future releases and da money.
It can output timecode
@@digitaldjtips Thank You!
This will be mostly for turntablist or those who stream from their house. I dont see nightclubs switching back to this on a mass scale
No they certainly will never swap from CDJS to this
Damn it! I have to get one.
I want two but too expensive. No internal ground? Will it play 45s?
Is there a way to use this with a prime 4 plus as a 3/4 deck controller ? Can’t find answered on this anywhere. Thanks 🙏
Wow as an old school Dj wanting to upgrade. Lol I truly wish 🤞 I can buy if God willing
There are many much cheaper ways of doing this too :)
I envy your job!! Sweet gig 👌
I love it!
So impressive 👌
This is something DJ Angelo, JFB and DJ Q-Bert would use.
James Hype won’t use it as hasn’t got the “Cue” button apart from Cue pads it could work for him. Time will tell.
I’m not a pioneer fan but as a “DJ” I use whatever thrown in front of me.
My preference is Traktor S4Mk3, Prime 4 and 1210s mk2.
DJ Angelo Sound use Reloop i think 🤔
@@naelbeno6249 Yes he does but he still test them out even it’s behind closed doors.
Do these turntables feel like technic 1210? I was going to buy controller but this may suit me better. I can play my vinyl and mp3 with this.
Yes
@digitaldjtips - is it possible to run this turntable in DVS mode (with a laptop) into an analogue mixer? In other words - does the audio out from the turntable also carry the DVS audio or does the setup require a DVS enabled soundcard? I have a xone db4 mixer and I was hoping this turntable would provide the DVS audio in it... thanks
It required a DVS-enabled soundcard.
As I understand there are no RIAA-amplifer in this units? It’s a straight phono level as understand from another review so it doesn’t ruin another good mixers like rotarys.
Yeah sorry our mistake there, there are no phono preamps
Great video, thanks. Could you please check the actual WOW&Flutter? They report a 0.15% figure, which clashes to the 0.01% of PLX-1000 (Which contrasts with my own measurements) and the 0.025% of ALL SL 1200 MKn. Thank you in advance
Sadly we no longer have these units here.
Is it possible to buy one turntable and use that as a digital controller for both decks by switching which deck is actively controlled, or do we need to purchase two?
In some circumstances yes, but it would be two decks on one “side” of the mixer (ie layers)
Stems is the new trend catching on even on turntables
Yes!
Phil. These are amazing. Unfortunately out of my price range. But great product , at venues this will be perfect
Yes, maybe venues will start fitting them
do you have to use that mixer for it can you also use the 450 mixer with this for also playing digital pc input? i like more the club looking mixers thx
Use any mixer you like, whether a mixer can play music from software depends upon whether it has an audio interface built in
So, the million dollar question: Can they be used with an old analog mixer WITHOUT an SL box, Flux etc for DVS?
Of course they can. They have analog outputs and a real tonearm.
@@djshineboy re-read my question
@@mark_spit7839 Ah now i see it. Than it’s a good question. If there’s a soundcard built-in it should work but i doubt that.
@@djshineboy Exactly! If it indeed has a built in sound card, I can see a lot of people trading in their 1200’s and SL / Flux boxes for these.
Yes. ua-cam.com/video/_jqm_YA7_7s/v-deo.html
Monopoly concerns aside, these are f@#£ing fit.
Is it more accurate wen using the magvel clamp instead of standard DVS mode, time code vinyl wen mixing , even tho they are both DVS control , how well the pitch fader performs , ?
Just as accurate, pitch control is excellent
I would consider getting it but no 45 adaptor is a deal breaker for me. Hope the will create one. But love the direction this is heading.
Can't you just.. you know.. buy a 45 adapter?
Hello Phil, can these be used with the Denon DS1 to connect other mixers?
Yes
Do the Start/Stop, Motor Off, 33, 45, Step Pitch, Application, Deck, Reset buttons are midi mappable ?
Good point but doubt it
@@digitaldjtips We need a silent cue, a sync button, key lock, pitch bend etc. not another way to trigger hot cue. I don’t understand why they choose always the same shortcuts layout, it's a turntable! I need CDJ buttons not DJM on that part of my set-up, even REV7 have more interesting stuff around the plater
what is the sampler behind you to the left of the circuit?
Phil.. What are those monitors you have setup there
IK Multimedia iLoud Precision
What’s the cost for a set
I guess it's not a ludicrous price given it's doing double duty, albeit stripped back. It really would nearly halve the required space for people who have proper controllers plus traditional decks.
It seems odd to me if it's designed to be run in battle mode to not make the unit marginally wider and move the pitch control down to the right like all other modern controllers. Plenty of other things have been changed why not adjust the form factor so you don't have to reach back behind the tonearm? Suddenly you can move the small screen up so it's not set under the tonearm anymore.
Guess it would just break a paradigm
I'm also not a fan of battle mode, but it seems like the target audience for a product like this is the die-hard turntable using crowd, which leans towards turntablism/hi-hop scratch Djing (why else are they holding onto their 12" decks for so long...). I wish this CRSS-12 could have been designed so the visual cues work well in either format but... I'm not sure how that would've been possible.
I'm still waiting for the day i dont need to use a laptop with it and having to carry around a heavy bag full of vinyl to use with it. For example it would be nice to see a USB slot and a built in screen for reading playlists
Fun idea
Thanks for this. But I'm having an issue with my pair. I have them connected to my S11 via RCA
and USB but when I have a song rolling on deck 1 and then change the deck from 1 to 3, it's still controlling what's on deck 1 on the platter, and not allowing me access to deck 3 (despite that it says it's set to deck 3)...
Sorry not heard that issue before!
I highly doubt that, if it didn't have phono pre-amps you wouldn't be able to play traditional vinyl, hence the toggle switch between line and phono.
Possibly, not tried that
@@digitaldjtips hmmm it would be a very sick set up butttttt before i buy a 1000 something dollar turn table i meed to do my research, and btw it would be great if you guys could like maybe try it out and see if it works if you still have the thurn tables and the opus 😅, oh and your videos and lives are amazing
lovely😍
Do i need a paid prescription to use these? just bought one and cant get the digital mode to work?
They are designed to work with Serato DJ Pro or Rekordbox software if you want to use the digital functions.
I got it sorted, i hadnt elected relative mode was what was causing the problem.@@digitaldjtips
I wonder if Andy C would like these?
Good question!
I still go with Rev7
WOW!
I like it, but I prefer my turntables the other way.
Yeah this is definitely designed for scratch heads
Can the ccr12's utilize full 4 deck control with serato on a four channel mixer?
Not tried it but don't see why not
@@digitaldjtips
Just wondering because in another video I saw that it can control the cues and loops and stems of the other deck but not the actual platter part get what I'm saying?
So I'm just trying to confirm this because I want to switch from a controller to turntables again as I do have a lot of vinyl and it would be nice to throw in a vinyl here and there at a live show.
It’s an amazing turntable. I’m happy with my Rane MK 2’s though. Plus the price compared to the Rane’s is way too much.
They are definitely pricey.
Finally in 2050 humans have overcome the laptop, having standalone 12" motorized digital media players.
Full circle! (literally)
@@digitaldjtips Has to be. Having a laptop connect to a digital turntable for it work is amazingly low-tech in this day and age.

What mode do u have this in when not using needles in serato ?
It works like a controller deck in that mode ie HID
Tnx👍
You're welcome
Does it play vinyl?
To be honest I don’t see why they don’t have a usb drive input with a small touch screen for browsing the files. This would be a game changer. If I could just have tracks on a usb same as xdj or cdj and insert into the turntable
That would make it a completely different (and much more expensive) product - though as you say, a great one!
Those dust covers would offend me, everything on those decks is designed to be used battle style, except the dust covers, the Pioneer logo is the wrong way round...
do u to plug to rca cables for digital vinyl?
no
Too expensive… but its Pioneer so not surprised. I stick with my RP8000s. Still, some cool tricks it has.
The MK II is Amazing
"Too expensive" Cheaper than a CDJ3000 or a 1200GR.
they should put a sync button on these.
😉
Let @DjAngeloUK smashing that beast 💪
December gifts I wish for❤
Fingers crossed
Take my money
You like it then?
Why have they put the pitch control behind the needle at the back of the turntable? Surely the pitch control is the most important part of the turntable unless you're just hitting sync all the time in which case why would you invest so much money on a turntable? Seems like it's been designed by people who have no experience of traditional turntable mixing.
Because it is aimed at scratch DJs who rotate traditional turntables by 90 degrees so they are this way around, to make it less likely they’ll knock the tonearm when scratching.
👍👍👍
Can I map the pads for echo out etc?
Has anyone used these, I’m thinking about turning my Denon 6000sc m’s in for these?
Yes, we have! We love them
The spindle/motor shaft system is more similar to the Hercules t7 than the Rev7...
No, it’s not
It works/ integrate with Traktor Pro 3?
We guess it would
