Hi - what a great comment to wake up to and guessing by your handle you have a natural growth mindset . Thank you for your support. I am definitely going to use this experience to learn from.
The only DJ that hasn’t had this or a similar issue is the one that hasn’t done it long enough. It sounds like you handled yourself well, mate and you still left a good impression. Well done 👍🏼
Hi Eugene - yeah when I first got these USBs I chose (stupidly) to format in NTFS. I noticed they could also be formatted in exFAT. They didn’t have a FAT32 option but I put that down to FAT32 only being able to support volume sizes of no larger than 32GB and because were 128GB that made sense at the time. I will look into it a bit more though - lesson learned! 😂 Thanks for your support too chief :)
Sorry to hear this mate! Yeah... FAT32 that is the format. You can format any usb storage in this format. I actually didn't know that 3000 read NTFS! 🤭
Hi MrBanana808 (feel like we are brothers with me being 707) - yeah it gave an equal opportunity to everyone as a chance to be spotted and get experience. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for more :)
So it's not the USB brand that matters, you can format your sandisks to fat32 as well. Just pay attention to the filesystem type option when formatting.
Hi chief - will do. A couple of comments have said similar so it might be user error on my behalf- I was in a false sense of security because it worked on the 3000s
thanks for the tip, also assuming that everything that works at home on the 3000s would work the same on older gear in the club. ty for the experience!
Bro same thing happened to me at an open decks. Was t as high stakes as your event. So sorry to hear it happened to you. We live and we learn. Keep those positive vibes going.
Hi chief - this comment is gold. Yes, now in hindsight it would have been so easy to have taken my laptop with me. Can’t believe I didn’t think to do that!
I did know about this and prepared for this, however when I arrived for my set the USB still failed because the tracks weren’t exported properly. Luckily a fellow DJ there had his laptop and I managed to export the setlist properly just before I started 😂😩
Hi Ian - I’ve just bought a couple more and I’m pretty certain I can format in FAT32 on those ones. The ones I have don’t have that as an option but I’ve heard from others that exFAT (which they do have) would have worked?
Hi Richard - I often spot them on Insta. I searched DJ competitions and open decks nights a couple of times so now when there is something it knows to recommend them in my feed. There are also some really helpful people in my FB community who tag me in them too. Where are you based? I don’t mind @ing you when I come across some chief :)
Hi Theo - yeah but I didn’t realise the impact of the choice I made when i originally formatted it. There were three options (one I can’t remember) - the other two were format in exFAT and NTFS. Apparently if I had chosen exFAT that may have worked?
@@christopherreilly5339 hahahaha you could be right! I uploaded the set I planned on here. It’s called Making Two Decks Sound Like Three. I’m back making new mixes now which I’ll upload in a week or two. Just doing the tutorials for them first :)
sorry to hear it want like that but respect your attitude! Others have mentioned the reformatting of the USB sticks, and the USB-A versions. FAT32 can only support up to 32GB, Ive used FAT32ex for larger drives and they work for Computer OS's and various other devices but I have not tried on CDJs. Also Encryption - make sure you never enable Encryption as not all devices will allow you to enter the password to Unlock and therefor access the data/tracks is denied. Looking forward to your next adventures!
These are great lessons Dave! Thanks. Encryption could have been my next mess up - I don’t think I would turn it on but it would be more because I hadn’t thought about it rather than purposefully avoiding it - knowledge is power! Thanks for your support :) There will definitely be more adventures…
I’m also a DJ. If that were me in your case waiting after five hours just to not perform, I would’ve been furious and would’ve never attended that event again. That would’ve been the lesson I would’ve learned. If you’re waiting for too long, and if you think you’re not gonna be able to do it, quit. Because it was not worth your time waiting all of that time just to find out that you could not perform. I suppose unless you were getting paid in advance then something would’ve came out of it.
Hi chief. Yeah it was frustrating and nobody was being paid. I definitely had the thoughts of wanting to leave but by staying I learned about my mistake bringing the USB in the wrong format. Had I have left I would still be none the wiser. I know that is very specific to me but it’s a lesson I’m happy to have learned.
Great Video. Sorry you had these problems, i guess this pioneer eco system, i think there approach is one for many. I think you should checkout Mix Master G youtube channel he has some cool stuff around this and tips and triakcs. I think also you need to consider the speed of the USB and encrypt on the stick. For me Sandisk without the encryption USB 2.0 works fine across 2000s and 3000s, I am glad you still had a good experience and you would of smashed it on the decks. I think as a personal suggestion, I would test your mixing style on cdj 2000s as 3000 have better functionality Just something to consider as you may come up against kit like this in the furture. Peace Miki T
Thanks Miki. I did some reading on the 2000s since and despite the navigation being a little slower I’ve read, the cue banks seem easy enough and there are still 8, loops will be the same (so it won’t be like the big difference between Denon) and I can load my settings in easily so I was less worried about the difference in decks, and now I know about the format of the usb I’ll just take spares of different types - which might be overkill but not a costly one. The one thing you mentioned there about encryption I hadn’t considered - I will make sure I don’t get encrypted ones - thanks chief
no, what's wrong is the NTFS format cant be read by older CDJs. You need to re-format your USB sticks with Fat32 format as that works on all of the older ones. ExFat format may also work on some older ones but not all. NTFS and HFS formats do not work on older DJ gear at all so do not use these formats it's not the physical USB stick thats the problem, it's the format, which is under your control. you can re-format the same sticks and sync the music onto them again. If you use a Mac go to Diskutil, choose the driveand select Erase.
@@aerojez hi chief - thanks for this info. I’m going to try again. I tried to reformat the exiting USBs and FAT32 doesn’t show as an option, only exFAT - possibly because they are 128gb? I don’t want to risk exFAT not working as I have no older decks to try on first so going belt and braces - will take both types with me. This will never happen to me again 😂
personally, I prefer the cdj3000 and it annoys me when a venue has older gear, as there's some features that I love about the newer decks, like previewing music in your playlist before you load it, and Link Cue (to listen ahead of what's playing and decide my mix points in realtime). im often DJing with music ive never heard before as I like to download new music every week.
