To me, Chanel's Cuir de Russie immediately creates a mental image of soft, grey suede gloves, with a pearl bracelet barely showing from underneath. It's far removed from the military boot one might expect from the name!

Great review, I have the edp and I wish it was more potent. They still make an extrait in a 15ml bottle but the price is too ridiculous for me. I think some of these Russian leather frags were inspired more by Russian aristocratic tastes in scent ( powdery/ orris/ violet) rather than by actual leather goods. My fav in this genre is Cuir de Russie by Le Jardin Retrouve. It's more lasting, with a pronounced violet note. Best wishes to you!
I wish it were stronger as well. It’s one of those rare cases where I actually wish for this! 😂 I’ve been quite curious to try the extrait of this one and of Coromandel as well. And you’re right! On another comment, someone mentioned Anna Karenina, and it’s totally the vibe! I’m yet to try the one from Le Jardin Retrouve! Must be wonderful!

The aldehydes are the deal breaker for you for sure. This is HEAVY on them! If the leather were stronger, I think it’d suit you much more! Can’t thank you enough!!!! ❤️❤️
This for some reason reminds me of Anna Karenina, that whole era and society, specifically the upper class and aristocracy in Russia around that time in the winter
