    Great calling skills! Turkey hunting here in Mass. I am using FoxPro Wicked Spurs -Orange, Black and Grey.
    One thing that is hard to get from these videos or rock-star instructors is specific mouthing, tongue-ing techniques to get the sound of these guys.
    I just figured out something now. I am a musician, guitarist, singer, and I earned a Bachelor of Music from Umass Lowell on guitar back in the late 1980s.
    You need a lot of tongue pressure up from the bottom against the pair of reeds to get the initial high pitch start of the sound envelope. And then back off with opening your mouth like Bone Collector here does to get the descending lower, raspy part of the envelope. Your mandible (lower jaw) is going to go up and down like you're a puppet. You can play with having the tip of your tongue more forward towards your lips when you're applying pressure or further back. Then move air through that pressure.
    The other thing is, bend the frame so the plane of the pair of reeds fit up in the center of the roof of your mouth- the fossa or basin up there if you will. Bend it back if you need.
    It's tiring on jaw muscles if you do it right, and you'll probably acquire TMJ disorder.
    Of course, it could be my FoxPro Wicked Spur mouth calls are shit! Oh well, work with what you have now.

    . Man I'm one of them oldschool guys that don't like changes. That being said. I've used 1 mouth call for over 20 yrs.i won't name the call but it does not have the rasp. I've killed allot of birds with it. But had allot of birds hang up on it as well. So. I have been watching your videos on calling/turkey hunting non stop and i have to say. That ridge beater and georgia peach have a sound I've been looking for. For many years. But was scared to stay dumping money into trying every call. So.i ordered the peach and beater. And i have to say. Oh my god!!!! That ridge beater is a bad ass call brother. I'm in shock and over excited because after 25 yrs I've made the change!!! And struck gold on the first one. You don't know how much you helped.

    Everything Michael is saying is true.But I can attest to the fact that you can call a Tom in with just the high note of the turkey yelp.I've called in many toms and jakes without the raspiness in the yelp.But its true the yelp is more realistic with the raspiness included.

    Which mouth call would you recommend for a person who has dentures.

  • @ShinKyuubi
    @ShinKyuubi Місяць тому

    Okay...BIG QUESTION!! This is super important for me: I have a full upper dental prosthesis replacing my upper teeth, I still have my biological upper palate but there's a gap between where the permanent dentures are and my upper palate, for cleaning purposes, ya know, mouthwash, water floss picks, that kind of stuff. Can I actually use the mouth calls? or would that gap and the prosthesis get in the way of that? I only ask cause I know I can practice and get a response at some point cause one of my neighbors in the area raises turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas so they know exactly where the meat is coming from...and sometimes they get loose and wander into my yard, so I'll likely be able to hear a response when they actually have turkeys for the season.

    Michael, you mentioned calls as an instrument and you also mentioned Chet Atkins. Little side note for ya.. My dad was a master guitar player; he has strummed alongside Chet Atkins, filled in for a week in Doc Severinson's orchestra on the old Tonight Show, and he played once with Roy Clark. Dad also played for a season in Clint Eastwood's club out in Cali and one night Clint came in and bought the band some drinks. While sitting with Mr. Eastwood, dad (who was never a star-struck type) told Clint he didn't care much for the Dirty Harry movies but loved his westerns. Clint replied, "Well Sonny, I think you might like the film we just completed, then. It's called 'Pale Rider'. And on another visit he gifted dad with a signed copy of the new vhs! Just thought you might like this story.🤠
