I asked Gamegenic customer support for literally the exact product that is now called the Sidekick Pro. They told me to wait and see, and lo and behold, 2 weeks later it got announced. Needless to say I am now a very proud owner of a few of them, and I cannot recommend enough. Absolutely perfect for holding and showing off those blinged out commander decks that require lots of counters (looking at you ripple foil Omo with your everything counters).
I'm so torn. I have a ton of commander decks and have outfitted them all with the original Gamegenic Squires. (90 in total.) It was such a long and patiently budgeted project, and now I want them all in these new ones but I can't justify the cost unless maybe I can sell off my original ones.
Gamegenic has been constantly innovating and it's amazing what they come up to. I'm the proud owner of a Cards Lair 400 and use it for my Digimon decks, I can get seven decks into hat bad boy and that's only on the main space. I have dice, tokens, spare cards and even fresh sleeves on the other compartments. I'm amazed at the amount of stuff you can fit there.
Hey, I have a question. Can both the deck (EDH, double sleeved) and tokens fit inside this deck box? Acording to what prof said in the video, it should, but he was also talking about only fitting in thick sleeves so i got confused as a non-native speaker, so i'm asking about your experience.
@@matejvodrazka7847 I fit my Isshin deck with ~20 tokens. Deck is double sleeved , and tokens have inner sleeves only. Its max you can fit - still impressive ;) Unfortunately, the box has two "small" flaws. 1. The drawer unfortunately does not fit cards - it is too small. In other products from Gamegenica (Academic and Lair 600) the drawers are larger, and you can fit cards there, not just dice. I don't know if there was a chance to fit a larger drawer while maintaining the size of the box - probably not, which is why there is a smaller version in the end. Still very useful. 2. The "hard" card case itself is not ideal. Firstly, with the inner protectors from Gamegenic, the card fits very snugly, and you can see slight folds that arise after such an operation against the light. Additionally, each case has clearly visible production lines (probably from the place where the machine held the plastic) at the top and bottom (you can even see them here in the Professor's film). Of course the card is still 100% readable, but if you have a beautiful card in a fancy version - such a "blemish" can be annoying (much less during gaming). The last small defect - I bought 3 such boxes and in one of them the case goes in VERY hard - to take it out you have to use 2 hands and struggle a bit. However, this only occurs in 1 of the 3 boxes, so it may be an isolated case.
I think that the advantage of the Quiver Nexus boxes linking together is that when you put them in a Quiver, or in a messenger bag, backpack, etc, then they don't bounce around and scratch/damage each other. It also can make the bag they are in more stable. I use a canvas messenger bag for my mtg trips, and it can stack five boulders long, one boulder wide, and three boulders tall. The only downside is that setting it on the floor means if the boxes are not aligned correctly the whole thing can slump over and get messed up (IE, wide and fat from the boxes collapsing). If I could lock them together into a monolithic structure for transport then pop them apart at my destination, that would make carrying them more comfortable and easier.

It's amazing to think that Prof has been doing these reviews for a LONG time. One thing I am amazed about since his move to the new office space is the amazing quality control regarding videos and their production. I kinda miss being able to hear the "shooka shooka" of the cards inside the boxes as they shake, but I am amazed about the audio and video production.
Prof, thank you so much for continuing to do these. I bought my outer sleeves, inner sleeves, and deckbox almost entirely on your recommendations because you are thorough and consistent with what these reviews cover. I have bought thousands of resealable inner sleeves because they fit my exact use case (I hate how, with traditional inner sleeves, when you put them into an outer sleeve the card has the potential to peek out the bottom of the inner sleeve) and watching you dunk one of your cards with those resealable inners into a fishbowl of water told me everything I need to know. Truly, thank you for covering stuff like this that is hard to find or hard to trust elsewhere.
@DaClaptain Gotcha. For me, that has nothing to do with Prof dunking cards in water or shaking the shit out of deckboxes to show security. Which is what I care about in these reviews: not just nice words and pictures but use cases, extreme limits, breadth of capability. Ebegging doesn't really affect that part of the review, does it?

Oh man. I feel like an idiot. I got them yesterday, and went, "Man, this card case is really hard to open, hot damn" but I managed to get the two pieces apart and slip Marath in there and close it back up. Then I see this video, watch it was usual and see.... when it said "slide card case" in the product description, it meant the *case slides open*, not just that the card case *slides out of the deck box* The good news is that I didn't break the card case, so it's even somewhat idiot proofed!

@@matejvodrazka7847 Yes, if you get the XL it will fit double sleeved Commander decks with some additional space for tokens With Marath, I have the deck double sleeved with KMC inners and Dragon Shield matte sleeves. I have the space to have the 99+Marath, 3 Elemental tokens, a treasure token, an Eldrazi spawn token (for Basking Broodscale), a squirrel token (Squirrel Nest), a food token (specifically just for Rosie Cotton lol), and a generic dry erase token. I also have some extra cards in inner sleeves in the box as a makeshift sideboard, a Gaddock Teeg and a couple of others, plus a divider to separate these cards from the rest of the deck. There's still some room to spare, too. If you use really thick inner sleeves like those hard ones, maybe you'd have less room, but I keep a bunch of extra cards in my boxes now. More than I ever had in an Ultra Pro Satin Tower (which I bought these Gamegenic ones to replace my Satin Towers, because my Towers from 2013ish have all had the rubber coating break down and feel sticky to the touch).
As someone that has been with your channel since your 2nd or 3rd video, it brings me great joy to see another deckbox review. Really hoping for more affordable deckboxes that support decks with triple sleeved cards appearing in the future! I use outer sleeves for some decks that have special sleeves. I really enjoy Dragon Shields Outer Sleeves' shuffle feel, too! Thanks for the great reviews!
@jt_papertrail The sleeves are larger and fit very few deckboxes. I usually use the standard oldschool Dragonshield deckboxes. With an elastic band because they won't close fully.
Always appreciate the new reviews. The art on the Ultimate Guards are truly gorgeously done. I am honestly super tempted to pick up the larger hives for shelf storage. Still have not found anything to beat Bastions for my commander decks and Boulders for smaller decklists.
I’ve been using the heavy play kit (deck box, dice box, and playmat) as a dedicated pre-release kit. I keep a 100ct of sleeves in the box and the magnetic nature of the setup makes it easy to move from table to table. Not the best for everyday use but a game changer for prereleases and drafts.
It's worth mentioning that the squire holds the cards vertically while the sidekick holds them on their side. Great review prof! I just ordered a sidekick to house my very first commander deck, Vren, The Relentless!

The new Gamegenic deck boxes were initially made for the new Card Game Star Wars Unlimited. It is a pretty good game and I personally really like these deck boxes.
Thank you prof! This is in perfect time to be getting stuff for our loved ones this holiday season! Never the less, thank you for another fantastic video sir!
I got my wife and I the sidekick pros, and we love them. They hold our decks and tokens no issue, and mine is a double sleeved token deck. The dice tray in it is plenty large enough for our needs. I definitely recommend it
Please do a review of Heavy Play curved edge sleeves. I bought a several sets of their sleeves and all of them crack open on the corners. I think putting them on blast for this would be great.
For what it's worth, I emailed HP and they immediately shipped me replacements for free, and the replacements have been holding up better. I just love the curved edge so much that I'm willing to give a little bit of leeway here, but I feel you. I would love to see the professors take. Either way, heavy play support has been excellent.
@GreatWhiteElf very possible, I sent some photos to them where you can see that certain sleeves had less tight of a seal between the textured back and clear front. Most of the sleeves I have don't have that issue.
@@GreatWhiteElf Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like them. I tried them out, bought like 5 packs of sleeves and then realized they were all cracked and even the replacements were bad. I dunno, they just reached out to me about replacements. I'll probably give them another try, they do shuffle really smooth....when they aren't cracked.
the fact they're more expensive than something like the big name sleeves is really damned annoying. my brother bought a pack and they got scratched up quite heavily on the front after only a week or two of light play.
Been replacing my deck boxes with squire pluses for the last few months. I love how they fit so perfectly in my gamegenic dungeon, and i can turn them outward so that i can see the card in the slide case without even having to take the deckbox out of the dungeon! GG is killin' it
@crazywizard73 weird. I've never had any issues. It's all Gamegenic, so they're made to fit together. Perhaps something isn't seated correctly somewhere? It all should just fit

@@matejvodrazka7847 I only single-sleeve my cards, but I fit the deck and 20+ token cards (also sleeved) in it, so I imagine if you double-sleeve, you could potentially fit a couple token cards in there. From Gamegenic's website: "The Sidekick PRO holds 100 double-sleeved cards in extra Thick Inner Sleeves. It can also fit 100 regular double-sleeved cards and has extra room for token cards." So I wouldn't count on many tokens when double-sleeved, but since they specify "extra-thick inner sleeves," you could probably still fit a few tokens.
Whenever i hear Profs intro following by the Word Deck Box i feel like back in 2018 where i planned to come back to Magic and BINGE all the Videos Prof did. This Series is just pure nostalgia and love the Innovation we got in Deck boxes and of course in the Prof himself
Hey Prof! I just bought the Academic 133+ for my first ever homebrew Commander deck, and I absolutely love it! My LGS only had the Stealth version in stock, which was a bit disappointing, but thats ok, I'd much rather give *them* my money than Amazon, which is the only place I can order the Tolarian branded box in my area afaik. Literally my only complaint is that the top drawer is a bit of a snug fit, and requires a little more effort than I'd like to pull it out, but hopefully with more use it'll be easier over time. It's definitely an A from me!
I love the review videos! I got a couple Bastions because of your review and have been very happy with my purchases. Good to see Gamegenic keeps delivering on their new products!
Love love LOOOOVE these accessory review vids Prof!! Been ages since the last one, I really missed these tons. Its how I found your channel all those years ago, always a nice surprise! Definitely need those Nexus boxes they're perfect.
Heavy play got a demo/showcase at one of my LGS and after two days the boxes started to ware out not to mention that the price tag was insane. The boxes have been collecting dust ever since.
These review videos were the whole reason I followed you way back when. I don't go to Magic but loved your vibe enough to stick around. It's nice to see one of these again!
These videos, more than anything made me fall in love with MTG when I started back in 2019. I love how much care people put in taking care of their decks. Thanks prof
I absolutely love Gamegenic deck boxes. I use their Bastion 50 for my Digimon decks as they are the perfect size, and the Stronghold for my Commander decks. It's really hard to beat the brand.
Gamegenic is my favorite deck boxes of all time. Its why I have so many tolarian academics, and so many other gamegenic accessories. Thank you prof for "show me de way" or whatever. GAMEGENIC HAS A NEW DECK BOX?! The nexus is actually pretty cool lol not gonna lie. Imagine if they had little magnetic name plates that you can adjust around on the deck boxes instead of stickers!?
Huh, the "lego like" feature is actually neat. When you're carrying several deckboxes on the bag (I use a messenger bad myself), having them not move around and lay "flat" in theory seems like a nice thing to have.
After watching your older vid with Gamegenic bastion, I became a huge fan. till now I have about 8 of them. in this vid I learned I cam mix lid and base to make a dual color deck match!
Im not gonna lie, when you collaborated with gamegenic for the academic I was worried that you would no longer be reviewing deck boxes. Super relieved to see that isn't the case! As a yugioh player (specifically playing GOAT format in a casual setting not at tournaments or anything) these are the only videos of yours that I really watch but I absolutely love them, im sure im not the only non magic player that enjoys them
Thank you Prof! I truly believe you're a big reason why there's competition between companies and why the quality in the last 12 years has gone way up. I remember in 2012 when I started playing in tournaments that all we had was a couple of sleeves and like one deck box to choose from. Can't wait to see your updated sleeve video!
I'm definitely gonna get a set of the quiver time deck boxes, I love the idea of the stackable deck boxes being able to snap them together and slide them into my backpack for easy transport. Clearly and ingenious product that I would rate a solid A! I do love the satin tower and such, but these are much better suited for one with a plethora of decks that they tote around on a regular basis
Yoooooo. 8:30 I genuinely think i might get these just for that feature. Doesn't seem all that useful, but im a nearly daily player that fumbles with 26 decks before leaving. Being able to connect them, organize, and pop them united into my big Gamegenic boxes connected seems really nifty :)
Very professional prof! You can see the love and attention to detail every time the Prof handles the products. The micro-adjustments to make sure things are center. Course magnets, how do they work?
I literally brought a deck box 24 hours ago, and this video changed my mind on what I "should" have brought. I think I need to get the prof on speed dial before any purchase going forward!
Maybe I missed it, but would you consider doing an episode rating generic versions of these from Amazon and Aliexpress, for example, or even comparing them to the official products they're based on?
It's nice to see connectable deck boxes getting some love. I've also developed connectable deck boxes (shameless plug: MazeMods Deck Box). Version 1 of my deck box connected in a similar way, but I found the Lego-style connection wasn't reliable and would randomly disconnect during transport (C'mon professor. You barely wiggled the connected boxes in this video, lol). I ultimately fixed the issue using dovetail joints instead. I believe the Quiver Nexus will have the same disconnection issue (but I hope not. The company has a good rep and their boxes look nice). On a side note, review videos like these got me into your channel, and I've very much missed them. Glad to see they're back!
I love the quiver nexus boxes so much. I'm more than likely going to grab a few. Gamegenic being Gamegenic as always. I'd love to see a review of bags to carry my cards around in. I've been trying to find a good bag but to no avail. ;A;
Ahhh, I love the accessory reviews! Also, the GameGenic stuff looks great as well as the Quiver stuff - I would just prefer a version of the Quiver with a mat compartment.
Went to bed after watching your comparison video from last year to boulders and towers, and woke up to this. Good timing! I’ve started playing TCGs in person (which means I can now play FAB, which has been fun), and so I’m finally in need of accessories like these. Thank you 🙏
I picked up one of those Gamegenic Pro boxes for my counters deck, so I could put plenty in the pull out tray. Love the thing, but dang is it big compared to most other deckboxes.
Even Gamegenic's Side Holder 100+ XL deckboxes are really great quality! I was skeptical because I just needed something cheap on the go and they were like 3 bucks at my LGS but they're definitely not like the old Ultra Pro flip plastic deck boxes. There's something in the water...or plastics?...at Gamegenic.

More than I ever had in an Ultra Pro Satin Tower (which I bought these Gamegenic ones to replace my Satin Towers, because my Towers from 2013ish have all had the rubber coating break down and feel sticky to the touch).
OMG I'm an idiot, I've been ripping it in half! Thank you for teaching me the proper way 😅
As someone that has been with your channel since your 2nd or 3rd video, it brings me great joy to see another deckbox review.
Really hoping for more affordable deckboxes that support decks with triple sleeved cards appearing in the future! I use outer sleeves for some decks that have special sleeves. I really enjoy Dragon Shields Outer Sleeves' shuffle feel, too!
Thanks for the great reviews!
Have you tried the bastion? pretty sure they easily fit 100+ double sleeved, idk about triple tho
@jt_papertrail The sleeves are larger and fit very few deckboxes. I usually use the standard oldschool Dragonshield deckboxes. With an elastic band because they won't close fully.
@@brendans1983 I'm younger than you, probably. I'm an 1985 baby. ☺️
This is what brought me to this channel so many years ago! Love seeing these still alive in 2024!
Same. Is great for drafts and sealed.
It's worth mentioning that the squire holds the cards vertically while the sidekick holds them on their side. Great review prof! I just ordered a sidekick to house my very first commander deck, Vren, The Relentless!
Hey, I have a question. Can both the deck (EDH, double sleeved) and tokens fit inside this deck box?
Acording to what prof said in the video, it should, but he was also talking about only fitting in thick sleeves so i got confused as a non-native speaker, so i'm asking about your experience.
The new Gamegenic deck boxes were initially made for the new Card Game Star Wars Unlimited. It is a pretty good game and I personally really like these deck boxes.
True. They made thoughtful features that catered to that game specifically. It was a nice bonus that those features translated to Commander perfectly
I definitely recommend it
About time for a new review video, perfect for holiday shopping. Thanks Prof!
Maybe they have some quality issues due to being new? I say because my friend got some and hasn't had any issues. Those are his favorite sleeves now.
Yes! Finally an accessory video! Next up sleeves! Apex for the "rip test" ...
When Prof started shaking the boxes i was just gasping lol i did not expect them to stay solid like they did!
Someone should show the Professor what 3d printing has evolved the art of deckboxes into.
That could be a video all on it's own since there are so many.
15:52 If GameGenic was based here in the UK they’d be calling it ArmourFybre, so it could be worse I suppose.
Been replacing my deck boxes with squire pluses for the last few months. I love how they fit so perfectly in my gamegenic dungeon, and i can turn them outward so that i can see the card in the slide case without even having to take the deckbox out of the dungeon! GG is killin' it
Did you have to do anything special for them to fit in the dungeon? Mine are like a couple MM too tall and the dungeon lid doesn't fit comfortably
@crazywizard73 weird. I've never had any issues. It's all Gamegenic, so they're made to fit together. Perhaps something isn't seated correctly somewhere? It all should just fit
I love my Sidekick XL Pro! It's nice how everything folds up and is so secure.
Hey, I have a question. Can both the deck (EDH, double sleeved) and tokens fit inside this deck box?
Acording to what prof said in the video, it should, but he was also talking about only fitting in thick sleeves so i got confused as a non-native speaker, so i'm asking about your experience.
@@matejvodrazka7847 I only single-sleeve my cards, but I fit the deck and 20+ token cards (also sleeved) in it, so I imagine if you double-sleeve, you could potentially fit a couple token cards in there. From Gamegenic's website:
"The Sidekick PRO holds 100 double-sleeved cards in extra Thick Inner Sleeves. It can also fit 100 regular double-sleeved cards and has extra room for token cards."
So I wouldn't count on many tokens when double-sleeved, but since they specify "extra-thick inner sleeves," you could probably still fit a few tokens.
Awesome stuff, Prof! Never gonna get enough of you taking a serious look at the accessories that support our hobby.
Happy to see new content from you on deck boxes and related accessories :)
I missed accessories reviews. They helped me get accessories for getting back into TCGs. I hope this video does the same for more people!
Can we just talk about how slick that flick of the Sliver card was at 16:32 was?
The Gamegenic Squire Pro also fits in the Academic perfectly
Whenever i hear Profs intro following by the Word Deck Box i feel like back in 2018 where i planned to come back to Magic and BINGE all the Videos Prof did.
This Series is just pure nostalgia and love the Innovation we got in Deck boxes and of course in the Prof himself
7:48 I think I need therapy 😂😂😂
We have only the internet to blame
i was hunting for this comment, i bursted out laughing when he said it lol
literally a minute 8:58 lol he knows what hes doing! lol
I absolutely love these reviews! As a trading card game, I love knowing which boxes, binders, and sleeves are the best for my game.
This video was a nice reminder of why it as so easy for me to support your kickstarter. Your product reviews have always been stellar.
I love the review videos! I got a couple Bastions because of your review and have been very happy with my purchases. Good to see Gamegenic keeps delivering on their new products!
Thank you. :)
I love the accessory videos! I love seeing products being put to real test!
These review videos were the whole reason I followed you way back when. I don't go to Magic but loved your vibe enough to stick around. It's nice to see one of these again!
Oh hell ya, new product review. I was interested in the new gamegenic line and this is for sure what I wanted to see. Getting some soon, thanks, Prof.
Maybe the best deck box of 2024 was the friends we made along the way
Oh right, Prof reviews products. I had almost forgotten.
These videos, more than anything made me fall in love with MTG when I started back in 2019. I love how much care people put in taking care of their decks. Thanks prof
Been waiting to see a review of the new Gamegenic Deckboxes. Love the review and love your work, Prof!
Learning from this video that the hard sleeve was a slide open has made my playgroup all feel dumb.
Man I missed reviews, they’re always the best thing to turn on when I’m busy but need something to listen to
Def ordering the Quiver Nexus for sets of precons! Such a cool idea so that I can keep them all grouped physically.
The use of magnets is actually very thoughtful. Seperate attachable token/dice box is nice
Love this! Accessory reviews are why I originally subscribed to your channel and remain among my favorites.
Ahhh the classical music of Prof content *chefs kiss*
After watching your older vid with Gamegenic bastion, I became a huge fan. till now I have about 8 of them. in this vid I learned I cam mix lid and base to make a dual color deck match!
Those nexus boxes would be really convenient to store on a shelf tbh
Feels like a great feature
Thanks for keeping on covering new accessory options. You make super helpful reviews!
My personal favourite deck box is Gamegenic's The Academic 266+ XL. So damn good.
Been waiting for this video. Glad to see more video's like this prof! reminds me of the early days
This will be fun to watch, i haven't paid attention to commercial boxes since i started 3D printing my own custom ones
Im not gonna lie, when you collaborated with gamegenic for the academic I was worried that you would no longer be reviewing deck boxes. Super relieved to see that isn't the case!
As a yugioh player (specifically playing GOAT format in a casual setting not at tournaments or anything) these are the only videos of yours that I really watch but I absolutely love them, im sure im not the only non magic player that enjoys them
10:40 Dang, I don't need any more deck boxes, but I really want some with cool art now
Thank you Prof! I truly believe you're a big reason why there's competition between companies and why the quality in the last 12 years has gone way up. I remember in 2012 when I started playing in tournaments that all we had was a couple of sleeves and like one deck box to choose from. Can't wait to see your updated sleeve video!
I literally rewatch every one of ur deckbox videos, playmat videos, anything and finally another has come out 🙏
Bout time! Actually had hoped Prof would look at these esp the Heavy Play. The UG art deck boxes surprisingly impressed me in person
So happy to see a deckbox review again.
The nexus is pretty neat. I can't wait to see what they make next
I love when you do reviews, miss them so much.
Thank you for shaking all products!
Love the Squire Pro. Got em for all my edh decks. They fit nice and snug in my Academic.
Course magnets, how do they work?
i don't watch a lot of the prof's videos but his deck box reviews are always appreciated. top tier video
Always love a prof product review. Has one been done yet on the bastion xl from gamegenic? They are my new favorites.
Wanted to chime in as well. Been missing the product reviews. glad to see another one!
Was just thinking about when the last time an accessory review came out! Always my fav!
I was just looking for deck boxes for my Christmas list, perfect timing Prof!
My best friend got me a serialized goreclaw (my favorite commander) for my birthday this year and I got the sidekick pro to show it off! Very nice.
Thank you prof 🙏🏻 I’ve been meaning to get some deck boxes but I couldn’t decide which one to get.
I really hope Quiver makes those Nexus boxes in smaller 80+ sizes at some point!
Not everyone is looking for Commander Sized Deck Boxes
I always love seeing a new product review video! I think I'm going to pick up one of the art boxes
i appreciate the Reading Rainbow book-opening transition in the beginning.
I love the quiver nexus boxes so much. I'm more than likely going to grab a few. Gamegenic being Gamegenic as always. I'd love to see a review of bags to carry my cards around in. I've been trying to find a good bag but to no avail. ;A;
Ahhh, I love the accessory reviews! Also, the GameGenic stuff looks great as well as the Quiver stuff - I would just prefer a version of the Quiver with a mat compartment.
8:48 It would be nice for mid term storage of decks you dont want to pull apart but dont use too often
Went to bed after watching your comparison video from last year to boulders and towers, and woke up to this. Good timing! I’ve started playing TCGs in person (which means I can now play FAB, which has been fun), and so I’m finally in need of accessories like these. Thank you 🙏
I love the honesty thank you for being a reviewer that I feel like I can trust 👍
I was just looking for deck boxes , your always on point professor
That quiver lego would make it nice to throw a bunch of commander decks in a bag without having to tetris them into place.
I love these episodes so much! Even the music gives me a wonderful calming sensation as I enjoy the reviews 😊
