I absolutely hated The Maidens. It was just a whole lot of a man trying to pretend he understands women. It made me violently angry. I’m glad to hear that his other books aren’t like that because I have Silent Patient and have avoided it since I hated this so much.
I haven't read the Fury (probably won't) but I did enjoy The Silent Patient (4 stars) I did predict the twist, but still liked it. I didn't enjoy the Maidens (2.5 stars) I didn't love the premise and didn't love the reveal at the end.
This is a fun concept for a video series, I hope you end up doing more of them! :) It's really good to know that The Fury has some pacing issues as that was my main struggle with The Silent Patient (and pacing is one of the best predictors for my enjoyment of a book). 😂 I think I'll give it a miss or at least get it from the library if I decide to give it a whirl! I also really hated that the twist in The Maidens had a major logical flaw... you know the post cards that the perp left throughout?...the handwriting on them should have been instantly recognizable to a certain someone who looked at them which should have made the vast majority of the story really unnecessary, lol. 🙈
YES. Totally agree with your thoughts on The Maidens. What a mess. I think you’ve got the right idea for The Fury. Worth a read at some point, but not urgently and definitely from the library.
I agree with everything you said! I read The Silent Patient first and loved it. I was VERY disappointed in The Maidens, and The Fury was meh to me, but it was better than The Maidens. I recommend that anyone new to this author start with The Silent Patient.
Great video! I read the Silent Patient and just finished The Fury. I didn't catch the Silent Patient spoiler in it! I'm googling and can't find anything either. I'm curious now! 😅
I will tell you!! SPOILER BELOW . . . . . . . . . . In the version I read, it reveals that Theo (a psychotherapist at the start of The Silent Patient) is now a patient at the psychiatric hospital. At the start of The Silent Patient we have no reason not to trust Theo’s mental state, so it definitely spoils that a bit. Doesn’t ruin the book completely, but it definitely changes the experience!
Very helpful!

Yes! The Maidens was NOT GOOD. I do recommend trying at least one more book by him, as The Maidens was particularly bad lol.
there's a few authors I need to do this with next year (Riley Sager, TJR, Lisa Jewell, Zoje Stage)
Yessss do it!

Yup. We feel similarly about the works you have read by him. The Fury is worth a read, but not urgently lol.

Yes! The Silent Patient is definitely the best.

I gasped when I received The Fury in the mail last week!
Nice!! I hope you enjoy!
Chris Carter would be interesting😊 Love from 🇩🇪
Never read any of his books, but I’ll check them out! thank you!
I loved the writing style of The Maidens, but the plot/ending did not make sense.
Yeah, he writes well, but that book was a mess haha.
