Just got some birds again for this year. Thinking of making a plucker because people like the fresh eggs and ask if I sell birds. From what it cost me to raise them for myself I can make a buck if I pluck and sell. Glad I watched again. You raise them birds big like me. Who needs a three plunders when eight is bigger. Lol
Is there anyway you could make a video showing how you assembled everything ? I absolutely love this idea of doing it manually , I understand the concept of how it works, I just can’t seem to wrap my brain around how it’s all put together
I hope I see lots of videos of future better versions! I really didn't see the reason for a motor to do a couple minute job. Plus I think there must be damaged skin and broken bones on the motorized version. A hose fixed into a sprayer in the drum would also be good.
Mount a drive pulley underneath and connect to a old bicycle. Much easier on the shoulders and you can still operate the garden hose using only one person.
shorter would be fine but it might get tight if it's any tighter. Pretty sure you could rig up another gizmo to have it turn from the bottom and not have the pvc pipe coming up taking up any room.
nice, this looks simple enough to build and functional. Going to give this a try. We do 40 birds a year and plucking by hand is by far the worse part. Thanks from Stewiacke NS
Thanks, the expensive parts are the rubber plucker fingers. I would be willing to sell mine if you were up for a drive to Cape Breton. It could easily be upgraded with a better handle and place to stand. Add a hose with holes to attach the hose too.
pretty much have everything to build this , plan to pickup the fingers in the US ( see they much cheaper there ) , thanks , hadn't really thought about a manual plucker , but yours seemed to work well enough for me. cheers ...
I was building with the intentions of a motorized one and then thought, a minute per chicken, a work out and alot less parts and no motor, frig it, manual it is. Worked excellent.
I'm glad to see this hand-powered version of a DIY chicken plucker. While I love the idea of letting an electric motor do the work, the risk of electrocution gives me pause... Water + electricity + DIY - what could go wrong? Now that I've seen your rig, I plan to make mine muscle powered, or possibly cordless drill powered. Have you make any improvements to this lately?
You should:-) I ordered 100 chicken plucker fingers from amazon, my local country store wanted 3.99 each. Would turn nice with a few wheels installed in the bottom and use a flat piece of plastic instead of the cut out top of the bucket. That could have been better but it does the trick like it is:-)
The crank is a pvc pipe that goes down to the top of the bucket I cut out. I found another piece of plumbing pvc that fit the pipe and had a top and bottom that bolted together. One side went on the bottom. Another short piece of pvc fit in that to get the right height on the bottom to fit 2 plucker fingers to sweep the feathers out the hole in the drum. The bottom of the drum I fit a small piece of pvc that was bigger then the pvc on the bottom of the spinner, so no bearings or anything on the bottom.
Your channel popped up in my feed because I was searching for chicken pluckers. I am going to be building one in the next couple of weeks and was intrigued by your Whizbang being hand powered. Thats a cool idea, but not for me after 5 shoulder surgeries. Seems like a great way to get an upper body workout!! 😀 I have subscribed - If you get a chance, check our small family homestead channel and consider subscribing. Thanks.
what goes under the base plate or does it just sit on the bottom of the barrel?

A crank-handle on top would make that a lot easier and faster. Good idea making a hand-powered one.

I was thinking suicide knob for tractor steering wheels

I want to make a foot peddled one, just haven’t figured out how yet. 🤔
I think I'd like to try bike pedals. My legs are a lot stronger than my arms and could make it a bit faster.
Is there something making contact underneath the bit touching the 2x4?
Just add gear ratio to increase speed. Maybe chain and sprockets...
Is it possible to get the material list and construction details for manual plucker
Do you think this could work with a 30 gallon barrel?

What kind of chickens were those?
Do you have a website with plans?
Your design is very inspiring. How about mounting a 24 volt Drill to it. That could work maybe.

Tell me how your goes eh!

You are a jenius dud. Thanks for inspiring us. We need no electricity for plucking effectively
Exactly, it took just over a minute for each chicken. A work out and a thing that is light to move and no electricity required!
You are a genius bud ..thanks..
Not sure I'd go that far, haha, but thanks.
Damn bro.. You did it didn't you? heh. Salute.
This is awesome. I think I'll make one.

How are you ?, Do you have a parts list for the build ? Especially the manual crank...

whats that rubber screw called
Believe it or not they are called Chicken Plucker Fingers lol
Are any for sale
That works Great... How old are the chickens They where Huge. Nice video and Build.
Thanks, was planning to do it with the motor but was fine with a little work out. Chickens were 9 weeks.
@@headoverwheels they grow so fast. Great work making your chicken plucker.
Do u think you can do a link with your plans

I like your idea.. Save electricity..
Why use it if we can get the chickens plucked and a good workout :-)
Yeah a steering wheel spinner would be perfect! Much faster than plucking.
If I decide to do chickens again it will get some nice upgrades next round. It worked pretty good for a first draft.
you can make a more convenient handle i think
I like this. Going to try and do it with a drill adapter. I have a high torque lithium ion 9ah drill... should work good!
Did you ever get a chance to try that idea? Curious if it worked.
You should patent this lol.
Seems to defeat the purpose of making the process easier. More energy is used to spin the plate then pull the feathers.
it comes out much cleaner and much faster, and you get a good workout out of it
Yup, just pull the suckers off. LOL
I wonder if you could do my 500 a year with that for me in 3 days,,,,
Not a chance lol, I had 80 and I sort of enjoy the work out. That being said, technically yes, it would take 500 minutes.
Классно придумал молодец!!!
