- Опубліковано 16 вер 2019
- On their first ever elk hunt, and with only three weeks of preparation, Clay and Bear Newcomb head out with their mules to Colorado public land for an elk expedition. This father-and-son hunt shows that anybody can do if they'll just go. Check out the Bear Hunting Magazine podcast where Clay and Bear discuss the hunt in detail.

That was cool. Getting the youngsters out has to be a priority. Glad you shared your first elk hunt with us.
Right on. Thanks man.
You are right
What a special time for you two! Love hunting our elks up here in Northern Alberta. We have herds of up to 400 come through our property and us girls enjoy the whole process: scouting, hunting, butchering , tanning and eating!
The Biegel Family channel excellent!
Your videos are the best! Thank you for always being family friendly.
Proud of you bear! Take every opportunity with you’re dad you get, you’ll never regret a moment! Good video guys
THANKS TODD!!!!!!!! HOPE YOU ARE WELL!
Underrated. Clay, you are a true inspiration!
That is awesome! I have always wanted to do that type of hunt, but have never even known where to start. I love that you and your son shared the experience together. Thanks for "taking us along".
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Great work Sir. I appreciate the family content.
Jonathan Tucker right on. Thank you
1st time you both did great! So nice to have stock, mules or horses. Especially for packing out meat.
Lack of keeps me out of the CO deep woods, that and my senior age. Last couple years hunted 62, within 1.5 mile of roads....TOO MANY archery hunters (TX, IL, Iowa plates observed) that DON"T know what they are doing.
I've hunted elk for over 50 years and you Arkansas father & son did yourselves proud.
Awesome! What an amazing experience with you and your boy!
Thanks, Sean. Fun hunt!
Great looking hunt guys, love that your Son was able to go along!
Shanon Copeland thanks Shanon!
Nice nothing like hunting on a good mule... my grandson drew out for muzzle loader deer in an area that my father started taking me when I was 10 years old .. it’s all wilderness so we will be riding the mules.. like you and your son I’m looking forward to spending time with him in the woods ... good job for a rookie elk hunter and nice video
That sounds awesome.
Great hunt!! Awesome memories made with your son! Best of luck in upcoming seasons!
Thanks, Nick.
So inspiring!! I hope everybody that watches this is inspired to JUST GO DO IT!!! Its scary and intimidating but you wont ever regret it.
Right on! No regrets!
Glad you and Bear made it out there. I just got back Sunday night from a DIY/BY CO backpack elk hunt not far from where you went. You'll be ready next time, I'm sure your hooked now! Keep sharing your adventures!
Robby Rivett how’d you do out there? We didn’t hear a bugle?
Had some bugling action on Tuesday, then got caught at about 10,000' in a hail storm. After a couple days of letting my jacked up wet feet recover, I figured them out Thursday evening. Went up Friday morn and unfortunately, I believe, fatally wounded a bull. I tracked him for 1.1 miles and 3 hrs(according to OnX) but after his 3rd bed I believe the dirt/mud started "bandaging" his wound. Very, very hard pill to swallow. I'll not forget it for awhile, but will be better prepared next year. No bugles for you? Others were saying that also. Moon was tough, only Tuesday did I hear any.
Robby Rivett dang! Sounds like a tough one. Sorry to hear that.
That’s good stuff! Love the father-son combo! That’s the most important part of your trip just now!
God blessed me with two amazing little girls and some day I want to take them out into the wilderness to chase some big critters.
Richard get’em started young and they’re all different, so don’t be afraid to give them different opportunities. Awesome.
Lol, the mule freaked out when you did Elk call. Enjoy the time with your son, they grow up quick.
Yes it did for a minute!
Wonderful memories you made right there thank you for sharing them.
How can you not love the Newcomb family?!! Mr. Clay is as good as GOD makes em!!! He's fast become my favorite Meat eater member, and obviously before that too. Well done gentlemen 💪💪🤘🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲

First time I’ve watched you. Looked like a wonderful time, keep enjoying time with your son. It’s a dream of mine to get to go in 2002.
Thank you, Amy. Good luck if you get to go.
Awesome Awesome Awesome bear has got one hell of a life ahead of him you nailed the elk hunt your dead on 90 percent are in 10 percent but the 10 moves daily so stay in the zone more days you'll find bugles then start chasing elk are best the day you posted the video so if you can go later there you know the area guide knows there's lots of elk... Awesome video and podcast hats off for getting your feet wet. Elk are like bear they love thickest cover on the mountain for daytime good luck coming.
I really enjoy your videos. Eating my lunch in Alabama watching. Love it !!!!
Enjoy you're lunch, man. Thanks for watching. More coming soon.
That looked like so much fun! I’m headed on my first elk hunt in October!
Good luck man!
From Arkansas myself. My son just turned eleven and we ride the Ozark national Forest deer hunting. I am really looking into taking him out to Colorado elk hunting in a couple years. As always great down to earth real video. Keep it up 👍
Alicia Skipper good to hear about your riding/hunting in Arkansas. Y’all will be ready for CO if you can ride in the Ozarks! Good luck!
I'm smiling from ear to ear, that was pretty cool.
Bryce Watt thanks, Bryce!
Good stuff right there! Nice looking mules too.
Levi thank you
Awesome video! Great job!
Awesome hunt. I bet you were super excited to call those two elk it. I like your last line and I can 100% relate to it. I hunt other things, but the thing I truly get excited about is bear season.
Right on!
Great video. Every trip out with our kids is a success! Filling the freezer is just a bonus. Keep up the great work. If you ever get board and want to show me how to bear hunt I'd love to learn how it's done.
Thanks for watching....who said we knew anything about bear hunting?

I am a massive fan from the UK ...can you please do a video on foot and stake out bears like your original videos wow they had me addicted to your channel ...but respect to all you do and you do it well...brilliant video
matthew pickford got one just like that coming soon!
@@bearhuntingmagazine I want a claw mate hard to come by things like that in the UK and this may sound stupid to you but I noticed some people use your scent wonder what that smells like
I'll even pay for it go on my wall
Check out Rocky Mtn Scrimshaw. That’s who made Rivers necklace. They may have a claw, not sure.
Nice video 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks man!
I enjoyed hearing your recounting if this hunt on stick bow chronicles podcast. Did you think about using a recurve for this hunt initially? At least no sights to knock out or releases to lose.
Lad Duncan thanks Lad. Yes, I almost carried the tradbow, but I knew the limiting factor of the hunt was going to be killing an elk.
You should check into elk hunting in Arkansas on private land the way I hear it all you got to do is Meet The Right landowner
Thats awesome! Did you guys pack the gear on your mules to stay out overnight or did you ride back to truck each night?
We packed in enough for several days.
@@bearhuntingmagazine This is something my 12 year old son and I want to do. We only have two mules also.
I would suggest never using a bugle tube. I’ve elk hunted for years and found the Primos hyper lip double is the best bull elk call made. I’ve seen bull elk take their cows and leave the country when bugling got them.
Also, the hoochie momma is a killer when calling elk. You’ll find that a girl calling to a guy is always a home run. The last week of September can change things even more, a immature bugle can work of public land bulls. I’d just try girl talk, it always works.
Great video spent 14 days this past September muzzle load hunt mule deer in the San Juan mountains of Pagosa Springs Colorado. Let me just say the pine beetle has destroyed that area . And we seen no sign of mule deer or Elk the hole trip .
That baar just done left footprints on the wrong guy's truck!
Eric Ferguson haha.... “we’ll be back for YOU!”
What bugle is that?
Where's the recurve?
Yankee Hunter sorry bro....carried the compound!
Long time brack after your video
Long time! Sorry bro!
Looks like Gunnison
adam boone not too far from there.
If that bear only knew who he messed with lol. I tell my friends about your channel they all love watching your videos. Maybe I’ll see you in gmu 80-81next September. Happy hunting
adam boone thanks Adam. Good luck up there man.
As a father yoy csnt ask for mire..
doug m thanks Doug.
Can I get a bottle of bear ghee
Yeah, literally?
Great video. Do away with the music though
DIY? More like do it with miles.
Mules
And u didn’t know the regs? Geesh. Not worthy of getting an elk in my book
