speaking practically, turning the ferry into a monorail would be good, also you could build a warehouse on the other side of the lake, just extra space for when you have too much of something
If you want to improve it, try adding suspension to the wheels. You'd only need 1 piece of sports suspension, connecting the lower bar with the two lower wheels to the upper section. If you made it normally not fit on the rail, you'd be able to turn down the resistance and compress the suspension a block to push it on. Then you could up the resistance and it would force the wheel against the rail for better contact.
@@user-dh4pd4wk5i yea of course not consistently playing scrap for a year but me and my friend started the concept of making a ferry since we live on this peninsula which is a long drive away around 2 months after survival came out and have been on and off it since
@@old5075 If you have an oil pit, just mass produce unlimited bubble block for structural pieces. I've been considering doing that myself as my base is built on top of a little mesa in the desert biome. Bots can't reach my crops so it's pretty convenient, but driving to the ocean for water isn't quite so fun. If I monorail to the ocean, I can build an extendable pump to gather resources. A small alteration (or weld) would make moving vehicles pretty easy too.
I dont think the 2 bearings on top of the wheel arm are helping, I think the better thing to do would be to make it fixed, and add another wheel section in front so you have the 3 instead of just the 2 long on the bottom so it cant lean forward or back
Or have a second set of bearings at the bottom so the arm can lean, but the wheel can stay flat. Also might use less wheels, but a fixed arm would definitely work better than the current design
Got another idea; why dont we have multiple arms with wheels to increase stability? Or have the rail closer to the surface so the rail car maybe rest through the middle of the float? Someone like that cus stability is a huge issue rn.
The fact that there only is one piece connecting the bogey I think is the problem. Try two anchorpoints to the ferry going down: aka Instead of the current design that looks like "h" you have two connections to the ferry making it look like "H" instead. :)
I think it really needs 3 sets of wheels instead of 2. With 2 sets, it’s possible that only one wheel set has full contact at any moment. With 3 sets, the connecting rod shouldn’t be able to bend to either direction nearly as much.
Add a monorail, that would be cooler, more fuel to weight efficent, and be more friendly to your frames. on the other island you could also add a storage area of some kind, instead of throwing objects away. You could even build off of the monorail design, making it go to the trader!
without gravity on your side, I think you need dual rail and quad bogie. the added stability will increase reliability. you could then increase engine speed. also tension on the bogie wheels might help, suspension or controller and arm.
You should make an armored train in scrap mechanic. It’s kind of similar to the train from your last video. They were used in WW1, and there’s some really cool pictures of them. It’s basically a land battleship.
Kan, why didnt you try placing wheels on all four sides of the rail? that should provide better contact and control. Another thought would be to have two attachment points for the connection to the wheels and rail. You could make a Y brace from Front to back or side to side and have it connect to the wheels.
You guys could put a rail above the docks that would hang over the center of the ferry. Then you would have an adjustable hook that you could weld on top of the vehicles in order to get the vehicles centered. You could also do two hooks so the vehicle doesn't twist as it guides itself onto the ferry. There could be a locking mechanism on the ferry that would allow it to hook onto the dock so it doesn't move as you unload or load up a vehicle.
I just wanna say this gave me vivid memories of a short time at Disneyworld after it rained super hard the dye for the lakes at Frontierland you could see the rails that the boats ran on
You could fix the grip issue just making the stick where the wheels mount 1 or 2 blocks shorter so the budyancy of the ferry is always pulling up the wheels into the rail getting more grip
the wheels on the rail could possibly be improved with suspension, making the suspension squeeze the wheels to the rail. you could also use suspension glitch to keep the ferry more level?
An alternative way of doing this is using two lines of bubble or glass blocks just below the water surface and placing a wheeled platform over them. Above water you wouldn't see the "ferry" is really a bridge. It would fix balancing issues too.
You could make a ballast to adjust the weight back and forth, i may not know how to make an adjustable piston, as in adjustable via buttons, but i know it could be useful for asymmetrical builds
as soon as the blue truck was half way off the dock going sideways into the water I was like, "I miss Top Gear" and the next few minutes just reinforced that sentiment lol
@kAN Gaming Just make 2 pistons on each side of the ferry. Two in the back and two in the front. Connect them with some blocks maybe 3 high in a row. Then have a sensor or button near the front and when it senses the truck both will extend towards the middle and push it centered. Could work ? :D
What you could do is make the connection between the wheels and the ferry a Y shape. The two top parts of the Y connect to the ferry and the bottom of the Y connects to the wheels.
If you are making a monorail, make a piston elevator in the monorail cabin that picks up the vehicles from above instead of driving the vehicles on a ramp. I think you should converting it to a monorail. Keep it up dude
maybe you need a sensor on it that deploys or extense the bottom for stability when a vehicle rides on it? and a perfect platform would be one that blends in with the dock when stationary :)
You might be able to avoid twisting (Yaw) by placing guide wheels on all four sides of the rail. Pitch might be better controlled if you center the attachment point on the ferry from front to back.
Maybe use your side rails as a chock with pistons to help center and keep the weight center or make railings on top of the side rails and move them in.
You might be able to fix the tipping by putting pontoons farther out on the sides, yes it will not look as good but somethings having good results is better then good looks.
So if you did 2 rails, separated by like 3-5 blocks, lined up vertically on top of each other, and had wheels on the sides you could make it super fast.
You and Kosmo oughta start a new series where you go around and visit other people's multiplayer Survival worlds. Tour their bases, check out their vehicles, offer suggestions, fix inefficient logic implementations, etc. Like, MTV Cribs and/or Kitchen Nightmares...but Survival multiplayer. Would watch. :D
You could add like 3 pistons on both sides of the farry then connect them and make them push the truck to the center and hold it there. And the pistons would go 5 out one ether side and anything smaller then that would not need to be held in.
You guys should build a platform where the ferry was so it'd be much easier. You should also just attach the pulling mechanism to the front of it. But, Monorail.
Idea: you could build a centre weight underneath, which you then hook up to the drivers seat. So you can move by using W and S and turn the weight left or right using the steering to counter the ferry leaning to one side
I see two J's on each end of the ferry on bearings that are connected to pistons. the pistons extend and the J's rotate to the side of the dock. Making contact with two underwater pillars. Then they retract locking the Ferry in place against the dock...and then click switch again and the pistons extend the J away from the pillar and then rotate the lock bar back under the ferry while retracting to not cause drag. no more Ferry moving away from dock while trying to board or de-board.
Also if you had pistons on all 4 sides, like the lips you have to stop the truck from falling off, if they were 2 tall, and had a section in the middle on pistons all set to max and pushed towards vehicle, if they are all the same power, they should auto-center any sized vehicle you put on it., the back one could fold down, or just be set to a sensor, and be the wall all the other ones push against.
I have never played scrap mechanic. This being said, the way I see this working is maybe creating a bracket/fork that transitions to the direction of travel... that creates a pinch on the rails with the wheels? Kind of how you had the directional bearing near the top at one point to keep it stable, but more of a pivot point inline with the rail for the wheels to create that contact.
you could put a lip on the bottom of the barge ramp at the edge and a lip at the edge of the dock so they hook together when the ramp on the barge is down
Try adding bearings to the bottom so both the wheels and ferry would be more flat if that doesn’t work do the same thing but with two rods so you would technically have eight wheels if that doesn’t work the do the same thing but as a monorail 🙏🏻😁

Like adding a bunch of bubble directly below the ferry therefore having it half sunk so when weight is added it doesn't sink, and then the wheels will always be pushed against the rail because it's always trying to go up.
A much better way would be to have two of the stone rails, with one on the left side and one on the right side. They can be closer to the surface of the water, and there can be four sets of wheel on each corner of the ferry.

Maybe you can use opposed pistons on either side of the cargo area to center the load no matter the width?
use sideway pistons with a line of blocks to center every vehicle, you just gotta make it wide enough for every vehicle
If you added 2 more bearings for side to side tilt that way the connecting rod will be straight while the floating part will move
What if you had a constant bouncy to make tension so that the ferry doesn't tilt? Do both! Hook it to a rail above and below!!

A much better way would be to have two of the stone rails, with one on the left side and one on the right side. They can be closer to the surface of the water, and there can be four sets of wheel on each corner of the ferry.
I think you need a second, separate set of wheels on the rail, as well as a second joint for each set to freely move without hitching.
How about a triangle wheel setup? One on top two underneath in 45 degree and some suspension on the wheels
Looks like you cant push in water. It looks like its twisting causing it to pinch. Having it attached at the bottom center looks hard on it too.
