I purchased the Lumia 16 model, I'm at day 19 of my chicken egg incubation, I'm having the same problem but for me, I would not be able to do anything about it till after the hatch (if any). I agree it's a design flaw that should have been corrected. It is a very good incubator, but I have had more problems in humidity then all the other incubator's I had in the past. I think the Brinsea and Rcom models' humidity control works very well. Not too crazy about the Sirio pump. I'm going to modify mine as you did but I'll put a slot instead of a hole, laddered between the water chambers on the bottom. Thanks for sharing the video!

from Peru lima I bought a real 49 plus the truth is I had nothing to modify in the incubator the seller told me to only add water to the level of the front tray on the right side and I followed that advice I have been over 2 years and 85% hatch without modify anything and without the sirio even though I have the pump I don't need to install it hopefully it will be of some use to those who have this incubator

When using the pump and setting it to a certain humidity % is where the problem arises. Sure you can fill the trays and not worry about overflowing. One needs to be cautious when using the pump that is where the issue is.

Hola desde Perú también, dónde pudiste adquirir un incubador como ese? Estoy buscando

You love the humidity pump, but that's the exact reason why you are having problems. It dumps too much water into the reservoir when it never should overflow.

After you drilled the holes to distribute water to avoid flooding on eggs were the humidity and temperature readings fine. Or did you have to adjust either

Hi, it didn’t effect temp at all. It allowed me to use the humidity pump to control the humidity without having to manually add water in the large reservoir in the back.
You should not have to adjust temp set at 99.5 and leave it. Unfortunately without humidity pump you never know the humidity levels- unless of course you use some other device to do so. Like I said spending $150 on the pump I want it to do its job.

I purchased the Lumineers 16 model and my eggs went on lockdown today I increase the humidity to 60° and the water level is touching the bottom of my quail eggs I have talked to premier oneAnd they suggested that once the eggs hatch that I will call them and we can do a troubleshooting which does not help me now so what would you do to keep the humidity up without using that humidity pump this is the second pump that I had sent to me

If you are using the pump you have to drill the holes or make slots on the front reservoir walls otherwise the water will spill over and touch the eggs. Can you pull eggs and drill a couple hole in each reservoir. Tell them it’s not troubleshooting it a design issue and point them to my video. Premier one has already commented on my video so they should be aware.

@@thelarochellefarm595 I took your advise and drilled holes before incubation. However keeping the pump connected it flooded the incubator and water escaped through the vent holes. And never got up to 60 % humidity I disconnected the pump filled the bottom of incubator with water. The side fill reservoir can be used for more water if needs. Is there anything else I can do? I agree design flaw in the incubator. Eggs stay dry when in rotating tray but when you want more humidity the design shows it’s flaw. I think the only way to use the pump at lockdown would be if the water reservoir we deeper or bottom tray be raised higher

@@woman_of_spirit7752 I want to make sure I understand correctly. Are you saying you flooded the two small front trays AND the main large tray of the incubator? If that is what happened and your humidity still isn’t high enough I would take small sponges like you would use to clean dishes and wedge them on the sides. Lift the white tray slightly push sponge down into bottom of incubator and push white tray back down. Basically your sponge will be wicking up water from bottom tray increasing your surface area. The sponge will be about half above white tray and half below. You can add 2 sponges to start but that should take care of it. I would add one on each side just outside the small reservoirs. I hope I explained that so you could understand what I’m trying to say. 🤞I would also confirm that your incubator is on a level surface.

@@thelarochellefarm595 it is on a level surface. The pump kept running continuously while set at 60% humidity. To test the pump I set it for 40% when pump reading was at 53% It kept running and water flooding the tray. I feel the pump is defective. The pump has been replaced once this is the replacement pump. Maybe a bad run of pumps. Yes I understand about the sponges. I appreciate all your help Mark

If the unit is having to pump that much water into the unit your relative humidity and/or temperature is not in the range that is suggested in the instructions. Looks like you are in your garage or basement, I would guess your temp and humidity are not stable, it is highly suggested to use this unit in your house and within the humidity range and temperature range listed in the instructions.

No unit is not located in garage, unit is in basement under consistent temps and humidity.
The issue is not me having to pump that much water. The issue is the Real 49 itself does not come with a humidity gauge. The only way to know the humidity is by using the Sirio humidity pump. The instructions tell you to just add a bottle of water at lockdown into the main tray. But the user still has no idea what the humidity reading is by doing this. So the only way to know the reading is to allow the pump to fill the tray to reach desired humidity setting on pump. In doing so the only way for the pump to add water to the main tray is by flooding the front two. In flooding the two front trays the water will wick up the hatch tray and wet the egg. SO to stop this I drilled holes (as you can see in video) so that the water can flow into the main tray without flooding the front two small trays.
As you can see John there is no way of knowing the humidity level unless you use the pump. So Borotto should have taken that into account and lowered the wall height of the front two trays so that they are not directly against the hatching tray.
Again this is all when using the pump. Or one can only guess what the humidity is because the unit without the pump does not tell you and that is a flaw.
I think Borotto was really trying to simplify the hatching process by just telling people to fill one or two trays during hatch and add a bottle to the back during lockdown. While that may be nice in theory but when I spending hundreds on hatching eggs I want to know what my temp and humidity are.
John Johnson I believe you may work for Premier 1 who is the dealer for borroto so if you would like to discuss further please let me know and I will contact you.

@@thelarochellefarm595 Agreed, I have the Borotto 8 and the tiny reservoirs are just not large enough. I had both filled and humidity was only about 35%. I had to add a wet sponge. I'm drilling holes next time. Also, for the price they should include a humidity gauge.

@@thelarochellefarm595 Does the manual tell you at what level of humidity the unit should be? I watched another review and they said that you fill up one side for the first 18 days and then both reservoirs for the remainder, per the instructions. Maybe you are too stuck on the humidity level instead of just following the instructions.

@@MickSupper you’re welcome not to take the advice. Correct without the humidity pump you do as the instructions. Fill 1 tray followed by 2 trays. I purchased the humidity pump which is manufactured by them for the unit so yes I would expect it to work accordingly. Also different eggs require different humidity levels for example light colored leghorn eggs can deal with higher humidity while darker eggs such as marans you can not run those with high humidity to get the best results when hatching. So yes I do need to know what the humidity is besides just using generic instructions.
