I did my first windsurf trip here and learned to waterstart at el Medano. The teacher just told me to go out about 200 meters and jump in the water, and I wasen't allowed to come back untill I did a waterstart :) As a beginner I learned more here in a week than I would in a month at most other spots probably. Love it!
Have been in El Medano as a beginner. Learnt water starting there. It was absolute chaos 😂 Drank a lot of sea water. But to be honest 110,- rental for 1 day is crazy.
TWS is the most expensive rental shop. You can get cheaper elsewhere. I went last year and paid £80 for a half day rental, which is all you really need. How many hours can you sail in flat water?? But there are cheaper shops where you will pay about £80 per day... You can hire gear for a week from the Godzilla shop for about £300. But you will need a car to carry it around.

anyway, you got a really strange day. mostly choppie with the NE, only 15 days per year we have a SW wind or so that makes a fabulous flat water and strong winds.
not a begginners spot, but I learnt 5 years ago with my old school gear, so with the newer ones not so difficult. and must say you just went to the most expensive rental but probably the best. don't understand how they had the sail not trimmed as they work with the PWA guys and are as I said probably the best rental.
I have to check the video in slow motion for if I was sailing that day and appear on the background!

What do you think about the ezzy cheetah? I am curious to hear your opinion, usually Ezzy’s are pretty straight forward to rig: they have calibrated downhaul and outhaul. Was it the ezzy mast or another brand?

Yes, he said without insurance. Personally, I have a liability insurance that (very important) explicitly includes watersports, but also includes cover for rental equipment damage. I recommend such, because insurance premiums for/by rental shops can be pretty steep anyway.

El Médano, correct pronunciation is el mÉdano, mark the word on the E, not on the A. Kind of saying :El MEEEEEdano.
WTF, E110,= for 1 day. That's a monopoly position for the rentalshop. TWS doesn't bring that flow of windsurf attitude to the beach. Nevertheless it's a great spot and bring your own stuff for taking down your costflow. Drinks and food are better to spent your money! Great family :)
Well there are actually many rental shops there, so no monopoly. I think price goes down a lot when you rent for a week for example. But yeah, it’s expensive! 😄
El Medano is nice. But the rental prices are crazy. But isnt it everywhere now to expensive.
Although it appeals to me a lot to have this experience, Windsurf Rental prices are MADNESS! Can anyone reason that renting a car is cheaper than windsurfing gear? I mean isn't there another way, so difficult these days to gain the courage to spend 300 eur or more for a week just to do the sport outside of your home town
No school owner is rich, so apparently the prices are what they are… 😅 although that is not optimal

Honestly it is kind of unacceptable to have a sail not rig properly like the first sail you took. You can clearly see when you were on the water, the sail had plenty of ripple near the mast. Like you said, it was probably due to not enough downhaul. But paying a premium price of 80€ for half a day to not have the correct gear is not correct. Even if you can go back to shore to change, you lose time and it is kind of annoying to de-rig the sail etc. I have already seen multiple example of this situation at the windsurf rental I went and they are often kind of careless.
Tuning is very personal and depends a lot on conditions. It is a part of windsurfing. Even with your own gear you don't always get it right from the start. Just do some runs. Come back in. Drink something and tune the sail/board to your needs and go out again. You should expect some decent rigging from the rental but the finetuning is up to you.
80 €…?! Für einen halben Tag im Windsurf-Paradies? Da gibt es in Hamburg Möglichkeiten, die gleiche Summe in kürzerer Zeit und weniger Spaß auszugeben 😎

No no it is perfect! All the pro riders Train there…was nd every day…
@@philippedward7218 they train there because the conditions (wind chop waves) are similar to Pozo Izquierdo (also an ugly place) where the world cup takes place. In addition they stay and train there over winter ( cheap, warm and windy). But it does not mean it is a nice place....there are beautiful spots on the Canary Islands, but el Medano and Pozo are not ....

Yes, rental is expensive. But you probably know what manufacturers and shops charge you for equipment nowadays.
It costs you an arm and a leg.
And with one arm and one leg windsurfing is not fun anymore!
Windsurfing is still fun but the prices of the new gear not 😂. But you dont have to buy new, second hand is good enough

zuviele Kiter dort das ist echt Schrott, nutzt man die Bay voll, stören die ständig naja muss ich nicht mehr hin, dann die vielen hässlichen Hotels ohne Worte!!! Wenn's die PWA braucht, ich nitt da gibt es wahrlich bessere schönere Slalom Spots...
