I'll always remember the gameplay trailer Bethesda released in 2013 and how amazed I was that when buying the full game a year later I could actually play through that trailer. Incredible game.
Laura is the most terrifying boss to me, currently replaying it and the first chase sequence still scares the shit out of me. The lamp with the sexy legs during the assignment was THE most pain in the ass boss, and it was reoccurring! I swear I had a tougher time with her than the main game ;-;
The Evil Within, damn what a game. I originally played it on PS3, then PS4, then a few years ago on Xbox 360. And then again last year on my Xbox. Played the 2nd on PS4 and Xbox too. Really wish we would get a 3rd. Both games are underrated imo.
The evil within is also my favorite game series, and I’m still so sad that we may never get a third game. I think it being bout Joseph could work, especially because stem is still around as shown in the ending of the second game. And I think the game being abt Joseph is more than enough reason to bring Sebastian back, as he did say he wanted to talk to Kidman abt where Joseph is. Great video as always, maybe one day I’ll start making fanart and my own videos of this series. I’ll likely do art stuff first as that’s easier for me, idk how to edit lol.
As far as survival horror, this was the most difficult for me to get through...so it actually scared me. I kept dying during one of the fights with Laura I had to turn off the music and her screaming to get through it, the music was so intense it kept making me miss the pipes you had to shoot because I was panicking lol. RE games are just fun, SH2 is my favorite horror game I think psychological is the scariest but The Evil Within actually got me. This game was so hard for me, I never had that much trouble and the visuals were great th DLC with Kidman was awesome, the voice acting, Sebastian his drip is untouchable.❤also shade is terrifying.
Maybe if we are blessed with a third game it will focus on Joseph and how he's alive. Or maybe Ruvik in Leslie's body kidnaps Sebastian for revenge and at the end Seb somehow releases Ruvik from Leslie and even helps ease the trauma that Leslie suffered. Also awesome job on the music sections in the video.
I don't normally stick with frustrating games, but I beat "The Evil Within 1" 3 times and loved it! Akumu difficulty is just for people who complain why the bosses and certain enemy types "one shot" on hard mode, why not make everyone one shot since they made every bosses one shot you...
Can't tell you how much I love EW 1&2!!!! Just played through them both for the first time a month ago. Replayed both of them multiple times! Loved these games!

That ending music scene was amazing and could have worked as a great trailer for the game in my opinion. now I want to see how would people who haven't played The Evil Within 2 react to that. Great video and so sad to see the IP still be left in Microsoft's hands and even if they announced a third one now I wouldn't trust them to not mess it up with a new studio.
You can actually kill obscura in the field emitter boss fight. It just takes a lot of ammo and you're limited on time. It drops 21k green gel as far as I remember
I think what The Evil Within really exceeded in was the cohesive direction and style. Not a single visual and audio element goes to waste. Every aspect of the game comes together to create a greater whole, serving both the narrative and art direction of the game. As much as I love The Evil Within 2 for its gameplay and narrative, it felt sorely lacking in its presentation and art direction, somewhere where it’s predecessor excelled. I do, however, think that the first game could’ve done much more with its story. It had a crazy good setup.
It really did though. It was fresh creative and self aware. I love The Evil Within. This is the problem with the horror industry being dominated by two to three brands, no one wanted to take a risk on it and I'm so glad that I did.
When I first played it when it came out, I was disappointed with it. It wasn’t until I played it for the second time a few years after the release and took my time go in through the game that I released how good it was. The art design is so good and I loved the nods to classic horror. ❤
The concept of a world built as the physical manifestation of the psyche of someone (especially a psychopath) is enough to make this video game sublime. I went through the game like Sebastian, constantly confused and afraid of every step I made in this mouth of madness, and came out with a satisfying ptsd.
I'm not generally a fan of the horror genre, but I enjoyed both The Evil Within games. I liked them so much, I played them twice. The only reason I found this video was searching for information about whether there was going to be a third game. Its sad to hear that Microsoft bought the IP, so it's pretty much dead. I never played Silent Hill, but I did play several Resident Evil games, and they didn't come close to the feel that The Evil Within brought to life.
I originally got into it because I think markiplier played this game or someone else I don’t know, but when I finally got an Xbox and played this game I was hooked. Truly remarkable
i always loved the first game more than the second one unlike most people, now i know why it's the damn athmosphere and designs this game has is unparalleled, also the game feels like i am playing RE4 mixed with Silent Hill, it's so interesting to me, Also yeah the open world drags in repeat playthroughs.
I'm here to express support for the most underrated game of all time. If I were to start a political party the entire programme would be having the correct opinion on The Evil Within 1.
This video came out the same day when I bought a physical copy of The Evil Within for the PS3. Why not PS4 or PC? Because I don't have the money for either of those that could run both The Evil Within games. I'm currently trying to save up cash for a gaming laptop.
Kidman has one of the most bad ass lines in The Consequence DLC! I hope you cover it! I like long form content and 7 minutes in to this, I have subbed! :D
I tried The Evil Within and I think I was playing on the easiest level, but it was still far too difficult and scary for me. I think for me, with Resident Evil, it's safely predictable. I know where the save points are and I can run back without getting lost, but I got lost quickly in The Evil Within. I didn't understand the upgrade system very much either, so that was difficult too lol. Seems like a really good game though I will admit.
Hit a point early on in this video about preferring games where you can fight back. Yeah, honestly? It's the choice that makes things scary. IMO Outlast etc are solved games so they don't spook me as much, I know what to do in any given situation. When you put involve choice there and especially if both choices have their own downsides, oh no oh fuck oh shit me timbers be shivering.
Was this video removed? I’ve seen this intro before. I am also becoming an Outlast hater which sucks because I used to be a humongous fan and now it has a frikin movie coming and online game which is just cheap gory shock value to me.
0:19. Lol. I know I like OP already. Also yep. I was among "the nobody" who also didn't like Outlast cuz all you do is run and hide. Hell man I didn't even like Silent Hill Shatter Memories.
Both the original Evil Within and it's sequel had so much potential, but the first was too clunky and frustratingly punishing for the main stream audience and even though this was rectified to a large degree in the sequel, the damage was done. A lot of people who were burned by the original avoided the sequel. I guess this illustrates the importance of playtesting and balancing in games before releasing.
@@StardustCrusader18 right? People cosntantly need stimulus from a game to make sure its paying attention them when the point is engaging with IT in the first place
@@MidnightMediumNew characters not talking as much in the first horror games should be a standart for survival horror games, because this is a situation where a character first time encounters and deals with the horrors of the game. And them not talking much, especially during combat also let's the player feel the same type of fear as the character of the game. In the sequels, the same character does talk more, but that's mostly because they have dealt with the threat before. So it makes sense. But you still gotta let the characters not talk as much during combat or scary moments in the game, so that it doesn't become annoying. Dead Space 2 is a perfect example of this. Visceral knew when Isaac needs to talk, and when there are times he needs to keep his mouth shut.
I liked this game, i have a lot of good time, and it have unique scenery and situations... But unfortunately it doesn't deserve better. It's too janky sometimes barely functional. Maybe 40-50% of the time it was miserable experience. So, yeah despite my warm feelings towards this piece of art, i can understand why game is semi-forgotten :(
I never finished the game but could tell if i finished it i would love it but just couldn’t play not because it was too hard nor too boring nor too scary just couldn’t finish the game
I love TEW 1&2. I even got the platinums for both. But TEW 1 does a lot of things that i absolutely can't stand as a gamer. 1. This is probably my biggest overall gripe with the game. It needs to stop pretending it's a movie. The sheer amount of times the gameplay comes to a screeching hault and forces Sebastian to slow-walk, or forces your camera to focus on something you would've seen anyway, or decides to throw out a 'cinematic' chase scene that also takes away camera control, is ridiculous. It boarders on smug game design. It's actually shocking to me that Laura is the only boss the game lets u encounter organically without forcing ur camera to her like it does every other enemy encounter. 2. Cheap encounters. The amount of random traps in any given level that you'd have no way of spotting on a first playthrough isn't fun or clever. It's a cheap mechanic designed to give the illusion of difficulty. Even if you play slow and methodical, it eventually fails when the game flips into an action gauntlet where you're forced to fight a horde. This is more of a late game trend but can occur as early as chapter 3. 3. One-shot enemys, like the traps, are not fun or interesting. They're cheap and uncreative. Laura being the prime example. Her chapters aren't predicated on skill, it's luck. Her grab hitbox is literally cheating. There's various videos that show this. Enemies like this only induce terror or horror for a few encounters before they're simply relagated to an obstacle that's more frustrating than anything else. Laura's overly aggressive, inconsistent, and spongy. She may have an amazing design and have interesting lore. But that doesn't mean she's fun or interesting to fight against. She's just the 'run away' boss. Or she's the 'waste all ur resources' boss. Case and point, think about how Laura works and compare her to Mr. X from RE2R. Both essentially function the same, but one doesn't have to rely on instakills to maintain a threatening presence. 4. The nods and callbacks to resident evil stop feeling like fun easter eggs and start becoming on the nose references to a by-gone era. Chapter 10 (iirc) being a prime example. The spencer mansion knockoff that fails to capture the same magic or organic tension that the original did. Unlike in chapter 3 where it felt more like a fun tie in to RE4 that didn't overstay it's welcome, the Spencer mansion felt forced and like it hit a checkbox for 'hey remember resident evil? I made that. Look, I'll do it again right now.' Other smaller things like the match burning mechanic (just because it has lore added doesn't mean it's not still identical to it's predecessor) and the locker jumpscare in the city level (obviously pulled from the fire locker zombie in RE4) just addd to this feeling. This game tries so hard to be new while simultaneously pulling all the cards it can from everything before. 5. The overuse of cliches. It's been stated and confirmed by Shinji himself that american slasher films (specifically texas chainsaw massacre) were huge inspirations for TEW and it shows. And to a detriment imo. It's so over the top that it just becomes repetitive and tired by the end. The constant blood and gore, combined with the reuse of the chainsaw boss feels like the game thinks that's all horror needs to be done well. This is especially apparent when u consider that everything in stem is created by the mind of Rivic. Stem is capable of producing literally anything from the host's mind, and what we wind up getting is every single possible cliche from every horror film ever. Clowns, mannequins, barbed wire, spiders, foggy towns, mansions, asylums, blood, blood, gore, blood, and more blood. This is honestly something that TW2 did much better imo. Sure, it still had blood and gore, but the environments (especially any connected to Stefano) were considerably more interesting. 6. Rivic sucks. He is easily the most underused asset the game had. He could have been a fun villain but instead he's just written as a tragic archetype that's been done countless times before. He had zero personality outside of 'im evil because reasons'. He's just boring. Literally every villain from any resident evil game has more presence and personality. Rivic just spawning in to be a stalker enemy for a lvl honestly felt like it was just there to make sure u didn't forget he exists. His backstory with Laura was also executed blandly. It didn't really do much. 7. The seamonster section is unadulterated trash. I don't care. It's so goddamn cheap and drawn out. It could've been cut without losing anything at all. 8. The plot and the way it unfolds is just convoluted for the sake of being convoluted. It felt like it was trying to mimic Silent Hill but didn't understand how to go about it. The plot, once you understand everything, really isn't all that unique. But the game pretends like it's some crazy, deep story that's buried by the brutality of selfish men and corrupt organizations. It's not. It's just another cog in the wheel of 'bad people are bad' stories. So yeah, TEW1 is very much a love-hate for me. It can be an incredibly fun and engaging experience. But that doesn't mean it's perfect.
The gameplay was not that great if you ask me and the camera was pretty weird in that game. The sequel plays alot better but the 1st game had the most interesting story.
The first game has some clunkiness and maybe a at the time a bland protagonist and antagonist but it’s an underrated game and deserves a part three or remastere
I'd honestly remake it over remaster it. Sebastian needs a complete overhaul. He lacks any sense of humanity, same with the other characters. The graphics after the first chapter are also terrible so they can remake all the settings from scratch.
Thank you all so much for supporting me with these videos. I'm happy to know my last video of the year is relating to The Evil Within

YES the game is honestly fantastic, and I don't understand why it gets so much hate. It was pretty much my introduction to the genre
It's mainly because the chapter in Ruvik's home is terrible. Had they cut that one chapter the game would've gotten perfect scores across the board.

The sequel plays alot better but the 1st game had the most interesting story.
the evil within glaze is crazy, outlast is better and much scarier
Did the creators of The Evil Within visit you every night bro lil bro 😭
The first game has some clunkiness and maybe a at the time a bland protagonist and antagonist but it’s an underrated game and deserves a part three or remastere
I'd honestly remake it over remaster it. Sebastian needs a complete overhaul. He lacks any sense of humanity, same with the other characters.
The graphics after the first chapter are also terrible so they can remake all the settings from scratch.
I played evil within liked it a lot still after beating it on akuma 0 death run which is a hell run dont do it
Wait, Evil within gets hate? So weird
TEW 1&2 are a Survival and Psychological Horror Masterpiece.
Evil Within 2 might be my favorite horror game ever and that breaks my heart bc we will never see a third
Bro still pronounce his name wrong ouch
re4 + inception
I loved both games but theyre not close to as good as RE or silent hill
but is evil within an actual back trackable survival horror?
I appreciate the video but you made 3 or 4 videos about this game already it's time to let go
This is the last one! I just wanted to end the year with it :D
Yeah you pos quit loving stuff@@Proxidist
