@@zemox2534 That much is true, but there's just something about Mission Impossible masks that make me not prefer them very much in my suspension of disbelief.
I really enjoyed the video, although admittedly a big comparison to Batman Beyond is that to Spider-Man 2099. Granted, Terry doesn't have a lot of similarities to Miguel as a character but the concept of a futuristic version of an established hero was a big influence on Batman Beyond since Miguel's debut was in 1992. I get that the whole concept futuristic heroes already existed but Spider-Man 2099 was definitely an influence.
I can see why you’d say that, although the people I’ve spoken to never brought him up. Classic Peter Parker Spider-Man was mentioned a lot - and I have to wonder if perhaps Spider-Man 2099 and Batman Beyond took inspiration from the same things, particularly Blade Runner and Akira?
@@SerumLake I think they absolutely did. I've been watching the show for a couple of weeks now, and I just noticed that the restaurant that appears in the 'King's Ransom' episode, where Melanie (Ten) and eventually Jack work, is called Deckard's Kitc(hen).
I think they would have been able to get away with just chalking the similarities to coincidences if they hadn't named his love interest Dana. Like. Of the millions of names out there they could give to Terry's love interest, and they gave her the name of Miguel's love interest. They even have a similar dynamic!
Fun fact: Paul Dini and Eric Radomski did eventually go on to work on a lot of Disney’s Marvel cartoons, like Ultimate Spider Man, HULK and the Agents of SHIELD, and Spider Man (2017)
Batman Beyond, Static, Blue Beetle, Ms Marvel, Danny Phantom... whoever is the teenager hero, it's easy to see some influence from Spider man in them. As fan of super hero and pitches, I even created a OC hero inspired by characters from this archtype: The Spectruman His story basically a mix of Spider Man teenager drama with Green Lantern sci fy concepts, about a average student who is choosen by Percyon, a warrior from the Order of the Spectrum Knights, a group of galatic peacekeepers who were extinct during a battle. In his last moments, Percyon gives his power (a cosmic force that gives it's user light powers, including flight, , energy projection, pass through solid objects and move in the speed of light), turning the young man into the new and, at the moment, the last Star Knight. After using his powers to save a family, the boy is inspired to use his abilites to help people, which comes to conflict with his life as teenager (NOTE: Despite the cosmic lore behind his powers, most of the story I develop until now takes place on Earth, with Spectruman learning to be a hero and dealing with different enemies, including super villains aliens, mystical creatures and others). As I mention, much like Peter Parker, Spectruman is also teenager who has to find a balance between his two lifes and is traumatized by the loss of a father figure, although 1) While Peter was motivated by the guilt for his uncle's death, Spectruman, despite having doubts about what his father thought about him is more motivated by his desire to be great person like his father (who is a firefighter who died while trying to save a kid) and 2) Spectruman is not a smart nerd like Peter. He's just average 17 old boy who enjoys things like comics, films and spending time with his friends. His struggles are more similar to characters like Miles Morales, Kamala Khan or Wally West, with him dealing with high expectations his family and teachers, growing from anxious inexperient kid to heroic and confident man. His villains also take inspiration from Spidey's rogues gallery, as well other villains Frost Fist - Spectruman's rival from school who, after an accident, gains ice powers and become one of his main enemies. He's basically the Hotstreak to Spectruman's Static (with some elements from Flash Thompson, including the fact I plan to later give him sort of a redemption arc). Due to his abuses he suffered from his father and the pressure from his friends (who were also bullies), Frost Fist represents what Spectruman could become if wasn't for good influence his family and friends had on him. Devastation - Spectruman's Rhino. He's a criminal who, due to some experiments, is turned into a big hulking monster, wanting to defeat the hero and gain respect in the Underworld. He's a dark reflection of Spectruman's insecurites and dedication to always improve himself, only that Devastation tries to achive this goal through toxic ways. Antmalion - A mix of Chameleon and Twice from MHA. He's criminal capable of create copies of himself and others. Despite being a thief, Antmalion is not actually evil. He's very clumsy, meek and timid man. It's his duplicates (who represents the dark sides of his mind and repressed emotions) that convice him to commit crimes, very similar to the Ventriloquist and Scarface. No matter how many times his duplicates died in the battles against Spectruman, Antmalion always create new ones, representing how he's stuck in this internal conflict). This interactions between him and his duplicates works as reflection of Spectruman's duality. Tyrod - Inspired by Kraven the Hunter he's an alien mercenary, with the apperance of a humanoid tyger, who seeks to challenge the Spectruman for duel, since the young man is Spectrum Knight, a member of group rival to Tyrod's family of warriors. He represents Spectruman's desire to live up to his family expectation. Checkmate - Inspired by characters like Kingpin and Norman Osborn, he's a wealthy genius who controls most of Spectruman's city and use his resources to create super villains to keep Spectruman's busy and unable to interfer in the small street crimes (very similar to Tombstone in Spectacular Spider Man). Later I plan to reveal that he has power of causing Vertigo effect on his victims. Doctor Chimera - A mix of Mr Sinister and Doctor Octopus (the Olivia version from Into Spider Verse). She's a mad scientist responsible for Checkmate experiments on the criminals and turning them into super villains, treating them like they are her "childrens" and always tries to manipulate them to achive her goals. Much like Devastation, Chimera also represents Spectruman's need of improving himself, as well a dark reflection of Spectruman's mother, who, unlike Chimera, loves and care for her son. Syren - Inspired by the Shocker and Silver Swan, she's an winged alien mercenary with a sonic scream with a surreal detail: She's capable of creating sound waves in the shape of " onomatopoeias" (exemple: if she says "boom", the word appears in the place of the explosion, if she says "bang", she shoot's "sonic bullets" in the form of the word). Scarlet Spectrum - Spectruman's twin villain (like Venom, Black Adam and, specially Sinestro), a surviving member of Spectrum Knights who was once one their best warriors. However, tragic events lead him to become corrupt tyrant. His rivalry with Spectruman would be similar to Peter and Norman or Batman and Ra's Al Ghul from Teen Titans cartoon, with Scarlet Spectrum wantin to bring Spectruman to his side, to corrupt him, even if means having to kill all his friends and loved ones. Not only the Scarlet Spectrum represents what Spectruman could become if he let his anxiety and fear of failure consume him but also, the fact he was once one the greatest Spectrum Knights, makes Scarlet Spectrum a representation of the hero Spectruman wanted to become, and he rejecting the villain represents Spectruman choosing to not become like the Scarlet Spectrum but rather to be better than him, to belive in himself instead of just copying the others Spectrum Knights who came before.
I remember hearing that Danny Phantom was basically Spider-Man meets Ghostbusters, and man did it work, it’s such a fun mix of the two while also being it’s own thing.
I gues you can say that in a way, elder Bruce Wayne is kinda Batman Beyond verison of Uncle Ben (minus the him getting murder part, that was from Terry's dad). He essentially teaches him that with "Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility."
I know this has been a monthly theme, but I would really love if Batman Beyond stuff was incorporated into your future videos as the show has a lot to talk about I am sure
I also gotta say I love your little breakdown of plagiarism versus inspiration (which is certainly a hot topic on UA-cam right now). I can't tell you how many of my own stories have been inspired by something that intrigued me but fell short of expectations. Even the Tarantino example is interesting to me. He clearly homages a lot of work, but he's also a director who makes endless scenes I love inside films that don't hit for me. Which is yet further inspiration for MORE new stories, and the circle of imagination goes on.
just wanna say thanks to the entertainment i get from your videos. the quality is very good, the love for the subject matter is perceptible. greetings from germany :)
I grew up reading Spider-Man 2099 comics, by the time Batman Beyond came out I was in my mid teens and it always seemd to me that Terry's futuristic Batman and Neo Gotham were pretty similar to Miguel O'Hara's futuristic Spidey and Nueva York. Whether it was inspired by it or not, both were pretty awesome in their own respects. Although when it comes to Beyond, I still reject the whole Terry is Bruce's biological son thing. And the pointing of the gun at the kidnapper being the reason Bruce quit instead of just the heart attack never sat well with me.
Funnily enough, back in the day, a Mexican TV channel used to show Spider-Man TAS and Batman Beyond back to back, Monday through Friday. I was in college back then, and every time I went to the cafeteria, they would tune in and everyone watched both shows. Good times. 🥲
please do more batman beyond videos i love your work. i have fond memories as a child watching it on VHS. this batman was clearly not the same as Bruce but wasn't too different at all he still felt like batman just in another time period.
I feel you forgot to mention Marvel 2099, the setting of cyberpunk in the far future setting, the look of the GCPD main patrol cars smacks of the ones used by Public Eye from Spider Man 2099, Wayne/Powers=Stark-Fujikawa, Stalker is mostly a Kraven the Hunter pastiche but I also see Venture from the 2099 comic, genetic/cybernetic modification Splicing and the April Moon gang of cyborg have some parallels to the Degens/Red Market seen in Punisher and X men 2099 for genetic and the Siege(SItuation Emergency Gear) armor for the cybernetics.
In my conversations with people that worked on the show, Marvel 2099 never came up. I get the feeling that Marvel and Warner Animation took inspiration from similar sources, films like Blade Runner and Akira. I could be wrong though!
I absolutely LOVE your content. Have you ever heard of Beware the Batman? It was a (in my opinion) very good CGI animated Batman show. It stood out to me because of how different it was. It has a big overarching story across the season, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm still sad it was canceled after the first season.
As a fan of Spiderman, I've always enjoyed the similarities of Batman Beyond to the Greatest Superhero ever created. Batman is and always will be a symbol that can be worn by the person who believes in fighting crime and defending those who cannot defend themselves, even at the cost to themselves; which is why it's a fantastic way to draw in a new younger Batman in a way similar to Spiderman's journeys.
I personally think Terminal/Carter Wilson as more like the Batman beyond equivalent to two face, Considering his mother pretty much demanded nothing but perfection when it came to academics from him that might have resulted in him developing a disassociative personality disorder resulting in the terminal persona as a way to disassociate himself from the pressure he was under.
Love Spiderman TAS, love Batman Beyond (and oh boy do I love Kill Bill). What this tells me is that there was a very good reason I loved these two shows in particular more than any other ones as a kid.
I always noticed the similarities between Spidey and Batman Beyond, yet, I always kind of preferred Terry. Maybe it's because he's less annoying, (ironically) more responsible and less egotistical. Another outright Marvel reference in the DCAU is the enitre Volcana's episode in 'Superman: The Animated Series'.
Ian Peek from Sneak Peek has a lot of similarities to one of Spider-man's lesser villains, The Spot. He abuses a device that lets him go through solid objects & is nearly impossible to beat in a physical fight. Much like the Spot in the 90s cartoon; he too falls victim to his own power, suffering a similar gruesome fate.
In an Universe where there were superhero wars since WWII, the real reason the X-Men were hated was that ppl were sick of superhero wars by the 70s - 2000ish
The Spider-Man influence on Beyond is very strong. Peter Parker and Terry share another thing in common: they are both underappreciated. Terry is often thrown under the bus in modern dc comics in favour of the more popular members of the bat family (Tim takes his mantle for example) and Peter... Well, let's just say the poor treatment of Spider-Man from Disney Marvel is a huge can of worms I rather not open. Again. Enough people online have rightfully criticise Marvel for their disrespect towards the Spider-Man franchise. The brain trust episode was great and really highlighted the compassion of Terry.
One little fact you might know. Though many people believe that the phantom is inspired by the reaper, Timm and others say it was a lot more of Mysterio with all the smoke effects.
A good show, Lelouch, but not a great show anymore. Sure is quite hard for me to enjoyably rewatch it and X-Men: TAS nowadays, although at least they're more coherent than G.I. Joe and Transformers 1984.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I mean I do prefer Spectacular and yeah some shows have surpassed them, but they are both still great shows that get the writing, the character personalities, their dynamics and more down then other shows do.
@@mandalorianhunter1 Artful qualities are nice, but I'm also one who prefers fictional works ending properly and not frustratingly unresolved for so many years to come, unless deliberately done ambiguously a la FreeSpace 2, and NOT messily a la Battlestar Galactica 2003. With that in mind, the otherwise dated Spider-Man: The Animated Series wins on that in a long shot. Hard to rewatch, sure, but I'm better off letting the TV turned on broadcasting it, while I may be forced to change the channel in case Spectacular painfully shows up instead.
Random question but who did the animation for btas in that episode where Barbara is day dreaming of Batman and then robin snaps her out of it? That animation was the best.
The Marvel Unlimited app is pretty decent. Newer comics are added to the library 3 months after publication, which isn’t quite as good as the top tier on DC Infinite but still pretty generous
2:59 Unfortunately in current Spider-Man comics the writers now just have horrible stuff happen to Peter for the sake of it and think that makes him relatable.
@@milosbatmanvideosshe’s not really a ripoff. If she was, then every character in Beyond could be a ripoff. She’s inspired, but she’s still her own villain with her own story, regardless of similarities.
Some of these connections are fairly surface level especially false face who resembles the original avenger from street and smith much more than anyone else. Similarly Ten and Black Cat both are modelled after Catwoman. Spellbinder is also similar to a futuristic version of the Mad Hatter as both use technology to hypnotize people only one is more focused on movies the other on Alice in Wonderland. And blights powers are much more professor phosphorous than gobby, although the similarity in how they both killed someone the main character loved is there. But this was after the tim Burton films in which Jack Napier who turns into the Joker is literally the guy to kill Bruce's parents, even there we have a closer connection to Batman than to Spidey.
12:10 isn’t it a little convenient and remember in the Phantasm video where who ever killed Bruce’s parents should have been a mystery as it was a random act of violence that went wrong not a hitman for the mob or the Owls or being the Joker like in Tim Burton’s Batman because should that be the same Spider-Man until Spider-Man 3 where the Sandman was the real killer of Uncle Ben and the guy he chased in the first movie was just the partner which only avenged the car just because Sandman had no connection to Spider-Man, he was just some guy who got powers which isn’t that lazy writing?
That alliterative name is not something exclusive to Stan Lee and Marvel Comics. Think of characters like Billy Batson, Wally West, Lois Lane, Vicky Vale, Lex Luthor, etc.
i mean... guy in advanced suit of armor - you're thinking iron man guy with a cape - INSTANT SUPERMAN unless you actively avoid everything superman related to be a hipster douche guy with sharp claws coming out of his hands - wolverine NOTHING is original anymore, nothing will be ever again after success of those characters it's not what "gimmick" your character has, it's how you use them
I just can't get past the art style. Ever since TNBA, I can't enjoy watching these overly simplistic human model styles. BBRotJ was watchable because they mostly brought back the pre-TNBA style
10 seems more a continuation of the theme of Batman having a criminal love interest, like y'know, the other famous female thief who dresses like a cat.

Fun fact: Paul Dini and Eric Radomski did eventually go on to work on a lot of Disney’s Marvel cartoons, like Ultimate Spider Man, HULK and the Agents of SHIELD, and Spider Man (2017)
Mister Fix reminds me of the Hulk villain Mr. Frost.
I think terry is a comic book accurate peter parker , personality wise, peter was always hot headed and had his burst of anger
Batman Beyond, Static, Blue Beetle, Ms Marvel, Danny Phantom... whoever is the teenager hero, it's easy to see some influence from Spider man in them.
As fan of super hero and pitches, I even created a OC hero inspired by characters from this archtype: The Spectruman
His story basically a mix of Spider Man teenager drama with Green Lantern sci fy concepts, about a average student who is choosen by Percyon, a warrior from the Order of the Spectrum Knights, a group of galatic peacekeepers who were extinct during a battle.
His villains also take inspiration from Spidey's rogues gallery, as well other villains
Frost Fist - Spectruman's rival from school who, after an accident, gains ice powers and become one of his main enemies.
Syren - Inspired by the Shocker and Silver Swan, she's an winged alien mercenary with a sonic scream with a surreal detail: She's capable of creating sound waves in the shape of "
onomatopoeias" (exemple: if she says "boom", the word appears in the place of the explosion, if she says "bang", she shoot's "sonic bullets" in the form of the word).
I’d love to see a video series on Spectacular Spider-Man!
Hmm, eventually. Either way, not a huge fan of the show anymore due to its incomplete status.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Canceling that show was one of the worst crimes against television.
Love these videos! Excited to watch more from you.
Beautiful. Would have been here in the live chat, but I was on my way home from seeing the new Miyazaki Film The Boy and the Heron and didn't make it.
That's OK. Film's no Princess Mononoke or Porco Rosso to me, but it is still very worthwhile. Plus, the video isn't going nowhere.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I liked the film very Alice in Wonderland. I hope he keeps making content as long as he's enjoying and able to. 🙃
@@michaelandreipalon359 I enjoy the weekly live chats :)
While I'm here, I have a question only tangentially related to the DCAU.
Do you have an opinion Freakzoid and Madman?
I knew it i always thought it was
just wanna say thanks to the entertainment i get from your videos. the quality is very good, the love for the subject matter is perceptible. greetings from germany :)
Danke! I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed them
Don't forget some of spiderman villians didn't have a connection to him in the beginning the lizard was just Florida man and not a teacher to peter.
One inspiration on the design of this Batman's costume that is really obvious once you see it is b list marvel superhero Darkhawk
I feel that's because both take from similar inspirations (like Akira and Blade Runner)
Funnily enough, back in the day, a Mexican TV channel used to show Spider-Man TAS and Batman Beyond back to back, Monday through Friday. I was in college back then, and every time I went to the cafeteria, they would tune in and everyone watched both shows. Good times. 🥲
That’s a great fact!
Wish i saw that in college at a cafteria. Almost like a watching a film in the cinema with others
Cool very cool
Lucky. Granted, in case someone tells me to sacrifice one to save the other, then Batman Beyond will be the one spared.
@@michaelandreipalon359 why not stas
please do more batman beyond videos i love your work. i have fond memories as a child watching it on VHS. this batman was clearly not the same as Bruce but wasn't too different at all he still felt like batman just in another time period.
I have seen Beware the Batman, yes, and I enjoyed it.
A good show that needed more sympathy from rabid fans, that. Shame I can't recommend it due to it being unresolved.
Good show 😁😀
As a fan of Spiderman, I've always enjoyed the similarities of Batman Beyond to the Greatest Superhero ever created.
2:27 Where does that clip come from? I'd really like to watch it, if possible.
If anything Terry is more like how Kirby wanted to write Peter. Which of course was inspired by his own life
Terry mcginnis is spider-man archetype alongside with ben 10, invincible and generator rex
Man this is awesome villains and more better than just making old version of Bruce Batman villains
Another outright Marvel reference in the DCAU is the enitre Volcana's episode in 'Superman: The Animated Series'.
great essay
Thank you 🫡
12:04 this character’s appearance bears a striking resemblance to Eric Draven from The Crow comics.
I miss false-face he was great in the 66 show
The Spider-Man influence on Beyond is very strong.
SUPER NICE
Miguel O'hara is if batman had spiderman's powers while Terry Mcginnis is if spiderman had batman's powers
For some reason, I really want a Mad Stan video now. 😂
I hope you do cover some Spider-Man TAS when you can, it's a great show
A good show, Lelouch, but not a great show anymore.
Shriek is literally Onomatopoeia.
Random question but who did the animation for btas in that episode where Barbara is day dreaming of Batman and then robin snaps her out of it? That animation was the best.
That was animated by Dong Yang. They did a lot of the episodes of The Adventures of Batman and Robin.
Well crap, I just missed a new Serum Lake video…oh well. Better to watch it late then not watch it all

I’ve been getting a lot of use of the DC universe streaming service to read more comics. Is there a solid equivalent to Marvel
The Marvel Unlimited app is pretty decent. Newer comics are added to the library 3 months after publication, which isn’t quite as good as the top tier on DC Infinite but still pretty generous
Inque straight up trying to kill a guy by shoving herself down his throat was insane to see as a kid
About Nelson Nash, Nash is Edward Nigma’s legal last name.
2:59 Unfortunately in current Spider-Man comics the writers now just have horrible stuff happen to Peter for the sake of it and think that makes him relatable.
In Another Alternative Universe, Bruce Timm created the MAU and it created there own Miles Morales Spider-Man!

She’s on the list 👍
@SerumLake thanks man, she's an interesting character
@@Robotvike1996 yeah I agree even though she's just a clayface ripoff
@@milosbatmanvideosshe’s not really a ripoff. If she was, then every character in Beyond could be a ripoff. She’s inspired, but she’s still her own villain with her own story, regardless of similarities.
@@CamTheWarlock I know that but her powers are just ripoff of clayface with a different color
No wonder why Terry McGinnis was very similar to Spider-Man sure Terry does not have super powers like Spider-Man the only thing he has is his skills
Yeah unlike Peter Parker and the Osborns, Terry isn’t really close to Paxton
That too.
Id like to think that batman beyond is spiderman in a batsuit
What if Bruce Timm leave dc and making marvel animated series
I have to imagine it’d be similar to the Marvel shows that Eric Radomski made, but maybe more inspired by the 60s comics? 🤔
Nigh-impossible, but I do have high hopes in case he'll succeed where John Semper Jr., Greg Weisman, and Fine+Yost have failed in my opinion.
I Hope Bruce decided to Go with Marvel!
That alliterative name is not something exclusive to Stan Lee and Marvel Comics. Think of characters like Billy Batson, Wally West, Lois Lane, Vicky Vale, Lex Luthor, etc.
i mean...

NOTHING is original anymore, nothing will be ever again after success of those characters
it's not what "gimmick" your character has, it's how you use them
They better make more Reference to Manga. Cause Japanese Media Rules!
i didnt seth green whas in this show
I just can't get past the art style.
